It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when all our gadgets didn’t exist and people had to live without modern essentials such as a washing machine Shock! Co-op Electrical would like to find out which electrical item you couldn’t live without, whether it’s one that helps with everyday life or a luxury item.

Here’s what Co-op Electrical has to say: “Electrical items are now so much a part of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. But we know that when our customers need a new washing machine, cooker or fridge-freezer, they need it quickly, which is why we offer next day delivery to most parts of the UK. Even a few days without a ‘luxury’ item like a TV or tablet can feel tough!"

Would you be lost without your laptop? Or is your TV precious to you as it can keep the DC occupied and allow you to watch Strictly Glitterball? Would you fail to function without your coffee machine? Or maybe your fancy straighteners are a necessity to battle frizz?

Whatever electrical item you would feel lost without, please share it below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Hmmm a tricky one. If we’re talking large appliances I guess it would have to be the cooker.. Microwaves are a bit restrictive and the BBQ is a tad seasonal 🤣 On the gadget side of things I wouldn’t like to be without my iPad.......

singadream · 14/11/2017 23:04

dryer - it is life changing!

noideawhat · 14/11/2017 23:08

Definitely my phone & charger. Closely followed by coffee machine. And fridge freezer!

HowsAnnie25 · 14/11/2017 23:24

My TV, I spend two days a week alone at home all day and I just love watching films or boxsets.

ColinsVeryJolly · 15/11/2017 01:43

Oh I can't choose!

Telly or hair straighteners..?

Azra12 · 15/11/2017 04:30

Definitely the washing machine
I had a few months where I was without and had to do most of the washing by hand or taking it yo the launderette and would hate to be in that situation ever again
Even more so now that I have a small baby who has just started weaning!Wink

lynmilne65 · 15/11/2017 11:12

If you can afford to live in a 3 story house you surely can afford a dyson !!

PurranormalCativity · 15/11/2017 12:23

This is such a difficult question! I decided to answer it by imagining a week long power cut and the thing I'd miss most would be the oven and hob. I could manage without a fridge, freezer, kettle, washing machine, tumble drier, TV and even heating but without hot food and drinks life would be truly miserable. I wonder if I'd answer this question differently during the summer?!

I can't imagine life without everything I've mentioned plus my phone, hairdryer, iPad, boiler, toaster, etc. We take so much for granted and we are incredibly fortunate to have all these things.

HRoosevelt · 15/11/2017 16:05

Oven
Washing machine
Dishwasher
In that order??

lovemyflipflops · 15/11/2017 16:23

My microwave for heating those cold cups of tea when I am busy being a mummy, and for heating those ready meals when I have 5 mins to spare.

HappySecret · 15/11/2017 16:31

Torn between my electric heated pad and my smartphone. Using both at the same time right got now!

Whyisitsodifficult · 15/11/2017 17:04

Gosh that is hard but guess it would be fridge freezer.

oldcrownie · 15/11/2017 17:30

All instant communication devices. Phones, tablets etc. To be able to connect with people or contact someone wherever they are is now so ingrained in the way we live I just don't think I could manage without it. I can't imagine how my parents coped when we started going out as teenagers and they couldn't get in touch or check on us.

shuggas · 15/11/2017 19:37

Dishwasher! I couldn’t live without it, I hate washing up. Would rather hand wash clothes!

FridgeCut · 15/11/2017 19:38

It would be my laptop as it allows me to work remotely and be self employed. Without it I wouldn't have any money coming in personally and it would be a real problem.

MimsyBorogroves · 15/11/2017 19:48

My kindle. I read so much more now, and it’s improved my mental health.

Trenzalor · 15/11/2017 20:56

A kettle. You can’t drink as much tea as I do without a trusty electric kettle! At this time of year it’s also handy for those hot water bottles for tiny, tepid tootsies. And tea. Did I mention the tea?

Rigbyroo · 15/11/2017 21:02

My kettle!

georgedawes · 15/11/2017 21:05

Got to be the kettle! Couldn't live without coffee.

sandy31 · 15/11/2017 21:09

It has to be my Tablet, it keeps me sane and I can get so much information from it.

MycatsaPirate · 15/11/2017 21:11

My kindle. I use it every day, have tons of books downloaded on it plus apps and games. It's my lifeline to the outside world when I'm in too much pain to go anywhere.

However, I have seen there is a Roomba that can be either Darth Vadar or a stormtrooper and they do the phrases as they do the cleaning - and when they are going back to the docking station they play the Imperial March. If I had one of those it may rank above my kindle.

The kettle! I can read a book and listen to the radio without electricity, we could play a game but nothing will replace my cup of tea
