It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when all our gadgets didn’t exist and people had to live without modern essentials such as a washing machine Shock! Co-op Electrical would like to find out which electrical item you couldn’t live without, whether it’s one that helps with everyday life or a luxury item.

Here’s what Co-op Electrical has to say: “Electrical items are now so much a part of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. But we know that when our customers need a new washing machine, cooker or fridge-freezer, they need it quickly, which is why we offer next day delivery to most parts of the UK. Even a few days without a ‘luxury’ item like a TV or tablet can feel tough!"

Would you be lost without your laptop? Or is your TV precious to you as it can keep the DC occupied and allow you to watch Strictly Glitterball? Would you fail to function without your coffee machine? Or maybe your fancy straighteners are a necessity to battle frizz?

Whatever electrical item you would feel lost without, please share it below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

The kettle! Boiled water in minutes for baby''s milk and those much needed cups of tea!

tofollowtheclouds · 13/11/2017 07:14

For me it is definitely the humble, simple kettle.

It provides me the hot water for the very much needed first cup of coffee in the morning and each subsequent (live saving) one throughout the day!!

On top of that I also make soaps and candles so couldn't live without my kettle for the hot water needed to melt ingredients in a double boiler, sterilise equipment and clean up afterwards.

Gosh it’s so hard to pick. So many just seem totally essential nowadays - fridge/freezer, oven, hob, washer, drier. I guess the oven or the hob would be my most essential.

daniel1996 · 13/11/2017 08:53

My combination microwave ! It is my spare oven and grill, heats up my cold cup of tea and sterilises.

I couldn’t live without my telly, I’m on maternity leave and love having a cuddle/ feed whilst watching a film.

BellaVida · 13/11/2017 09:33

It has to be the washing machine. With 4 DC there just wouldn't be enough hours in the day to ever hand wash it all!

Everything else I could do without, at least for a few days...

Recently we had to go without our fridge for three weeks. It was still pretty warm, I have four kids who love their milk, and it was a bloody nightmare, trying to feed four fussy cherubs and me and my husband out of a cooler!
Oh the joy when we finally got our new one! The kids nicknamed our fridge 'The Second Coming' mainly because they were getting fed up of warm milk. lol
So Fridgey it is! :-)

The electric kettle! This household runs on tea Smile

sharond101 · 13/11/2017 10:06

I couldn't name one. Love my laptop, my mobile keeps me organised and my freezer is always full but then there is the kettle...

Blahblahblueblee · 13/11/2017 10:13

Tricky, toss up between my fridge freezer and my washing machine! I’m not sure I would have the time to be at the shop everyday to buy food items that need to be chilled and I wouldn’t want to take all my kids to the launderette or hand wash our clothes!

Sammyislost · 13/11/2017 10:34

My iPhone. I use it for so much. Keeping in contact with friends and family, taking photographs, googling things, listening to music, shopping etc! the list goes on. I would be very lost without it!

Thirdload · 13/11/2017 11:26

Gosh, all of them, but mainly the washing machine. What with the mess that young children make, we'd be screwed without it.

NauticalDisaster · 13/11/2017 12:05

iPad is our most important as it provides communication (email, Skype, messenger, etc.), entertainment, news, and education. It's a real good all-rounder :-D

Landed · 13/11/2017 13:51

Would have to be laptop, without it you can't research any of the others or order replacement, or find out which store has one etc etc.

Belmo · 13/11/2017 13:53

Was going to say my phone, but tbh the kettle comes first - unless I suppose I got a wee gas kettle- yes, phone it is!

burwellmum · 13/11/2017 14:26

It would have to be washing machine. We are lucky enough still to have village shops so I could shop everyday if necessary so I discount the fridge but the amount of filthy stuff my sports-playing children produce I just could not wash it all by hand.

MothershipG · 13/11/2017 14:31

In love with my Samsung fridge/freezer - especially the ice dispenser which gets used a lot for drinks, but the other day one of the DC hurt themselves and I had an instant ice-pack for them. Grin

NoStraightEdges · 13/11/2017 14:39

Hands down, it's my washing machine. We have a large family, one who does a really mucky job, one into sports, 2 sets of school uniforms, I swim a lot and a dog. My machine is on at least three times a day. How people managed before them I'll truly never know.

ConfusedLivingDoll · 13/11/2017 17:27

Have to add to my earlier comment, that when I was forced to live 6 moths without a washing machine (and with no launderette at a reasonable distance - no car!), it really shows you how important that is. My hands were constantly wrecked from doing the laundry and my flat was damp due to wringing laundry out not being as effective as a good spin cycle in the machine. I was single at the time and only my own washing to do (would on average wear non-underwear for a week or so, too, unless soiled).

billybear · 13/11/2017 17:54

washing machine and laptop .great could not manage without them,

BeeMyBaby · 13/11/2017 18:24

I couldn't live without an electric oven. Mil has a gas oven I have used and nothing comes out quite as good as using an electric oven.

MimiDeLaSun · 13/11/2017 18:46

Mine is my iPhone, it’s literally part of me nowadays Shock

Cagliostro · 13/11/2017 20:09

Tumble drier! I have a chronic illness that meant hanging out heavy wet washing was painful, and having no garden and no heating meant it took forever to dry and caused damp etc. We now have a heat pump condenser drier and it is amazing, two washloads in one go and it's dry in a couple of hours. Genuinely life changing!

daisyduke66 · 13/11/2017 20:58

Absolutely has to be my trusty coffee machine :) just couldn't function without that electrical item! :)

dannydog1 · 13/11/2017 21:11

Hair straighteners!
