It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when all our gadgets didn’t exist and people had to live without modern essentials such as a washing machine Shock! Co-op Electrical would like to find out which electrical item you couldn’t live without, whether it’s one that helps with everyday life or a luxury item.

Here’s what Co-op Electrical has to say: “Electrical items are now so much a part of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. But we know that when our customers need a new washing machine, cooker or fridge-freezer, they need it quickly, which is why we offer next day delivery to most parts of the UK. Even a few days without a ‘luxury’ item like a TV or tablet can feel tough!"

Would you be lost without your laptop? Or is your TV precious to you as it can keep the DC occupied and allow you to watch Strictly Glitterball? Would you fail to function without your coffee machine? Or maybe your fancy straighteners are a necessity to battle frizz?

Whatever electrical item you would feel lost without, please share it below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

My laptop. I love it to be able to keep in touch with family and friends much more easily and more often than I could otherwise. It also gives me immediate access to a world of knowledge to be able to answer (most) questions that arise on a daily basis.

I would be lost without my laptop as this is what i work from! I do have tech free days that I love but I wouldn't have an income.

fayesmummy · 22/11/2017 22:32

My dryer! I'd be lost without my dryer!

lastkisstoo · 23/11/2017 00:21

My laptop. It is where I spend most of my evenings, window shopping and reading Mumsnet Grin

Our tumble drier. I love it so much I could kiss it! We suffered a combi washer/drier for 7 years (and the requisite monthly repair visits) but have just moved into a house with room for a 'real' drier again.

It tosses and turns the creases and water out of everything, leaving clothes smooth and dry and towels fluffy and toasty warm. This is a revelation after so many years of sweaty, crumpled, steaming sorrowSmile

My pacemaker. It keeps my heart beating just perfectly 24 hours a day. I am lucky that they are so reliable and long lasting.

My home is filled with electrical items which I use daily; washing machine, oven, fridge/freezer et al.

However, I would be totally lost without my laptop. It's packed full of personal information, diary, appointments, contacts, treasured family photos, documents and spreadsheets. My life in a little tin can!

Smartphones and tablets are useful for some of these things, but the laptop's bigger screen and easy-to-use keyboard makes it more user-friendly and it is my essential item that it would be difficult to live without!

angiehoggett · 23/11/2017 07:40

probably my laptop, I like to relax and browse the internet and I feel like it's my connection to the rest of the world!

The one I couldn't bear to be without is my washing machine. Two teenage boys, a DH who loves gardening and a cat who loves getting muddy. It's on almost all the time.

I love the dishwasher as I absolutely hate washing up and my work depends on my laptop.

Of non-essential things - I love the food blender best - it purees, grinds, crumbs, shreds, grates, mixes dough - taking hours off the weekly cooking.

But if you have to choose one: washing machine.

tabbaz123 · 23/11/2017 09:12

Oh this is a hard one - I guess computer related gadgets if I was without one I would have back-up on the other so I think it would be my cooker - I love cooking and so would be truly lost without it even with the gadgets you can use to 'cook' with ...I love my oven

I hate to admit it but I'm addicted to technology, smart phone or laptop now indispensable! Facts at my fingertips instead of hours spent scouring reference books and visiting libraries! I'm even downsizing my book collection, something I never thought I would do.

Squina1 · 23/11/2017 09:57

I would definitely feel lost without my laptop, as I rely on it for my transcribing business. I'm also an avid comper, so regularly use it for that too.

sootyo · 23/11/2017 10:00

My mobile phone, as I treasure keeping in touch with loved ones.

snare · 23/11/2017 10:01

I think for me it is my washing machine :)

lisajordan · 23/11/2017 10:31

my straighteners - lost without them!

furryous · 23/11/2017 12:12

my phone... even though I lose it all the time Grin

Beepow · 23/11/2017 13:40

Mine is definitely my smart phone - catching 5 minutes of peace reading the news or scrolling twitter is my god send in my busy life!

emene · 23/11/2017 14:19

I Couldn't live without my laptop i literally do everything on it.

pnutter · 23/11/2017 15:18

Its got to be a washing machine. Ive gone without telly , laptop etc as we moved recently but i cant imagine having to do all the washing by hand !!

pixi1008 · 23/11/2017 15:20

It would have to be my mobile phone - it's a lifeline for both communication and escapism when I need a little break!

chrissie4 · 23/11/2017 16:11

My Hair dryer I would not be able to leave the house in the morning without blow drying my hair quickly followed by the kettle for that most important first cup of coffee

liane1987 · 23/11/2017 16:12

Def my GHD Straighteners! i can't go back to the days of having to use an actual iron to straighten your hair haha

Brandypie · 23/11/2017 17:31

iPad (if luxury) constantly used for different purposes. Essential item would be fridge freezer, we had a couple of electrical blackouts recently and the first thing to bother us was the thought of the food defrosting/going off!

olddoodles · 23/11/2017 18:14

Probably the fridge freezer as we are some distance from shops.
