It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when all our gadgets didn’t exist and people had to live without modern essentials such as a washing machine Shock! Co-op Electrical would like to find out which electrical item you couldn’t live without, whether it’s one that helps with everyday life or a luxury item.

Here’s what Co-op Electrical has to say: “Electrical items are now so much a part of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. But we know that when our customers need a new washing machine, cooker or fridge-freezer, they need it quickly, which is why we offer next day delivery to most parts of the UK. Even a few days without a ‘luxury’ item like a TV or tablet can feel tough!"

Would you be lost without your laptop? Or is your TV precious to you as it can keep the DC occupied and allow you to watch Strictly Glitterball? Would you fail to function without your coffee machine? Or maybe your fancy straighteners are a necessity to battle frizz?

Whatever electrical item you would feel lost without, please share it below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Washing machine! I just love leaving the house and doing some fun whilst the washing machine (and dish washer and robot hoover Grin) is on.
Coming back and having clean clothes is the best!

You get so used to having a phone which does so many other jobs that you couldn't imagine not having access to it. But if it was a matter of survival, then my cooker is what I prepare meals on and in so I would miss that the most and wouldn't want to live without it.

My laptop! It's my source of income, as I write and edit my photography work on it. Without it I'd be lost!

emmmaaa26 · 20/11/2017 15:59

I think my laptop for sure because as I sit here writing on it, I have also done some christmas shopping and got some work done.

My washing machine. It’s on non-stop now. I don’t know how my grandmother survived without one.

Harvestmoonsobig · 20/11/2017 18:11

Absolutely the washing machine. I do a 7kg load every day. I remember seeing my Grandmother with a wash tub and mangle. Even with a mangle, clothes were still sodden. The wash took the whole morning. Washing took days to dry. Washing machine is the greatest liberator from the drudge of washing. We’re so accustomed to having one we forget; familiarity breeding contempt. Yet in terms of having fresh clothes daily and not having sodden clothes hanging about, the washing machine has to make a marked contribution to people’s well being.

My washing machine, with 2 adults, a teenager a toddler and a baby in cloth I couldn't do without it

mishknight · 20/11/2017 18:26

Have to be my kettle! Could not function day to day without this.

onemorecakeplease · 20/11/2017 20:21

Sadly it’s my washing machine. I just got a new Samsung one and it plays a tune to me when it done!

Couldn’t live without it - do at least one or two loads a day.

Man I’m old!!

Vicky1990 · 20/11/2017 20:34

Vibrator.

claza93 · 20/11/2017 20:45

My kettle - I cannot function until I have a cup of tea!

Maiyakat · 20/11/2017 21:18

My kettle - can't function without a brew in the morning!

rachaelsit · 20/11/2017 22:35

My dehumidifier - especially over winter. Drys washing far more cheaply than a tumbler

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 20/11/2017 23:11

My fastpress, gods gift to ironers

amandaleeds · 21/11/2017 08:03

Hmm I think it would have to be my breadmaking as I'm now used to the taste of proper fresh dense tasty bread and couldn't go back to the heavily processed stuff in the supermarket although I have to say I am a big fan of the olive bread from Coop's bakery 😀

amandaleeds · 21/11/2017 08:04

That should be breadmaker!

sofieellis · 21/11/2017 10:03

There are five of us in the house, so the washing machine and tumble dryer are both on several times a day and I simply couldn't cope without them. Same goes for all my other essentials really.

If we're talking about luxury electricals eg phone, tablet, computer etc then it would have to be my laptop. Mine died last week and I had to get a new one the next day - I simply can't imagine life without it nowadays!

manfalou · 21/11/2017 11:36

Fridge freezer! But I need a dishwasher in my life.... We have a space for on in our new home and its calling out to be filled! I know once we get one we will have wished we had got one sooner

jcalel80 · 21/11/2017 12:47

rosie154 · 21/11/2017 15:46

My kettle, can't cope without tea!

Snog · 21/11/2017 17:25

My electric blanket! Unheated bedrooms and no central heating!

MrsKnightley · 21/11/2017 17:48

Dishwasher. I hate washing up and hate things not properly washed up since my granny made me tea which had a carrot floating in it and gritty scum round the edge.

Love the sparkle of clean dishes, glasses and cutlery.
