It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when all our gadgets didn’t exist and people had to live without modern essentials such as a washing machine Shock! Co-op Electrical would like to find out which electrical item you couldn’t live without, whether it’s one that helps with everyday life or a luxury item.

Here’s what Co-op Electrical has to say: “Electrical items are now so much a part of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. But we know that when our customers need a new washing machine, cooker or fridge-freezer, they need it quickly, which is why we offer next day delivery to most parts of the UK. Even a few days without a ‘luxury’ item like a TV or tablet can feel tough!"

Would you be lost without your laptop? Or is your TV precious to you as it can keep the DC occupied and allow you to watch Strictly Glitterball? Would you fail to function without your coffee machine? Or maybe your fancy straighteners are a necessity to battle frizz?

Whatever electrical item you would feel lost without, please share it below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Seriously - only one appliance.
Washing machine. I remember my mum spending 3 days - taking the washing to the communal laundry on Monday. Tuesday trying to dry it and Wednesday ironing it. She still had to do the cleaning, cooking etc. Drudgery.

On marriage first thing I bought was a twin tub; closely followed by a hoover - late 60's. Sorry to say - I never learned to vacuum. Ba-Ho.

Times and attitudes have changed.

Blender! Love my fresh green fruit smoothies! Would be a magimix but I just can't afford one!

MSHGW · 17/11/2017 03:01

I'd feel totally lost without my computer. Everything is one there!

peanutmum111 · 17/11/2017 03:22

To be honest ...... I don't know

It depends what is classed as necessary and we can have but ..............

what can be done without but ......................... what would I need to replace if they broke.

My microwave did die and was replaced same day, ideal to save money and cope with my husband on shift work.

A wet Friday after a full week of rain, I love my tumbler.

To bring the world to me, my laptop, saves shopping time and money, provides fun and knowledge and it is so wonderful, but to be portable .......... a phone YES YES YES

I would be lost without my smartphone and activity tracker - I use them constantly to keep my fitness in check.

DesignedForLife · 17/11/2017 08:51

My washing machine and tumble dryer. They seem to be on permanently with small children in the house!

@Carriecakes80
I’m a bit late to this thread ,
what a gorgeous family you have.

1.fridge. For my sons insulin .
2.microwave .must be able to cook meals for same son
3.phone. Just the thought of being without it makes me anxious
4 ghds Just because I need them
5.washing machine I’m old enough to have owned a twin tub ,and that was bad enough .
We have camping equipment so would manage boiling water and to light the house .
I hope we are only talking about a couple of days though 😂

I'd have to say that I would be lost without my laptop. I have everything on there, I do have my photos & videos backed up though as you never know!

I could easily live without my hairdryer & straighteners. But then could I live without my iPhone? This is too hard to answer actually!

littlemonkeyz · 17/11/2017 11:50

I would be lost without my radio, I love listening to music and it makes me feel connected with the world.

Pigeonpea · 17/11/2017 13:48

Washing machine

helsrodders · 17/11/2017 14:35

I couldn’t live without my Kindle. I love reading and take it everywhere with me, just in case I get 5 minutes.

queenoftheschoolrun · 17/11/2017 15:39

My hairdryer! We had a series of power cuts over the Christmas holiday and we managed without a fridge (it was cold), an oven (heated water etc on the camping stove and wood burner) and we had blankets and fires to keep warm but not being able to wash and dry my hair was the worse thing of all (disclaimer: well aware that this is a first world problem!)

phillie1 · 17/11/2017 16:07

Freezer, so can have healthy meals ready quickly on school nights, when rushing to get back out to netball and cricket

AIMOND · 17/11/2017 16:41

It's got to be the washing maching, saves so much time and drudgery of handwashing,

starrybee · 17/11/2017 17:34

My phone - I would be so bored without it!

sophiefx · 17/11/2017 19:09

I feel lost without my mobile phone. It's an amazing piece of technology with everything on it. Especially love being able to ring, text & surf the internet on one device!

NextInLine · 17/11/2017 19:10

Hoover definitely.
Mine recently packed in and them two days without it were hell.
I have 3 young children and the crumbs were everywhere Shock

Sleepysausage · 17/11/2017 19:18

V. Boring but I couldn't live with out our washing machine. I can't imagine having to squeeze in trips to the launderette into our already hectic life

serendipity1980 · 17/11/2017 19:21

Definitely my iPhone- used so much for so many things

Jerseysilkvelour · 17/11/2017 19:38

I love my phone and tablets, but I think I'd choose my washing machine if I had to choose just one appliance. I love it. And it plays me a tune when it's done!

rhinosuze · 17/11/2017 21:35

Used to be the bottle sterilizer now it's the washing machine (which is always on) - imagine having to go out to wash

hannahbjm · 17/11/2017 21:51

Ahhh definitely my fridge freezer i think. The amount of times i hear daily, whats in the fridge!!

Marg2k8 · 17/11/2017 22:35

I couldn't do without my fridge freezer. I remember when I was a child, we had a larder to keep things cool in before we got a fridge.

margf123 · 17/11/2017 22:39

To choose one item is so difficult, if I have to choose one it would be my charger it charges my iPad which I refer to when I need answers/information on a daily basis and also charges my phone which I need to stay in touch with friends and family

beckyinman · 17/11/2017 22:40

My slow cooker! It's always on - you can chuck anything in and it comes out tasting delicious.
