It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when all our gadgets didn’t exist and people had to live without modern essentials such as a washing machine Shock! Co-op Electrical would like to find out which electrical item you couldn’t live without, whether it’s one that helps with everyday life or a luxury item.

Here’s what Co-op Electrical has to say: “Electrical items are now so much a part of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. But we know that when our customers need a new washing machine, cooker or fridge-freezer, they need it quickly, which is why we offer next day delivery to most parts of the UK. Even a few days without a ‘luxury’ item like a TV or tablet can feel tough!"

Would you be lost without your laptop? Or is your TV precious to you as it can keep the DC occupied and allow you to watch Strictly Glitterball? Would you fail to function without your coffee machine? Or maybe your fancy straighteners are a necessity to battle frizz?

Whatever electrical item you would feel lost without, please share it below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Boring - but has to be the washing machine - it always seems to be on (and full I might add!). Luxury item would be my hair straightners though - love them for battling with my hair in the mornings!

Another vote for my Washing Machine.
It was only after it broke for several days that I really truly understood how hard it was to live without, with a 9 year old daughter in tow who still experiences the odd bed wetting.
As much as I need other electrical items, this is the one I need the most.

My phone, sad as it is but that little bit of technology gives me acess to everything I need. I speak to people on it, stay in touch with people via social media, use the internet to find out about things, order weekly shop and other items on it, watch tv on it, take photos, the list is endless.

I would be lost without my tv! It keeps me sane and awake during night feeds, i can totally understand the saying 'they must not have had a tv' as I think we'd probably have had heard the pitter patter of tiny feet long before now

helly27 · 16/11/2017 10:51

It would have to be my laptop as I have a gas cooker and so could boil water using that instead of a kettle

katkatgu · 16/11/2017 11:00

Without a doubt my laptop - I'd be lost without it!

Dangermouse80 · 16/11/2017 11:46

Tumble dryer without a doubt!

Ethan260908 · 16/11/2017 11:54

Blimey - I can't imagine washing my clothes by hand like my mum did before she bought a twin tub. I just take for granted my washing machine but when it broke I was all at sea. Everything else palls into insignicance in my humble opinion.

angela121262 · 16/11/2017 11:59

My IPad , second only to my mobile, telly, straighteners........

RedRoseMummy · 16/11/2017 12:03

I think it would have to be my fridge freezer. My Nan still waxes lyrical about the first one she bought and the change to cooking and feeding the family it made. We would be lost without ours.

I'm tempted to say my laptop and phone as being without the internet would cause me serious issues, especially as I'm self employed and need it every day for work. Without it I couldn't do the job I do in the same way and would have to rethink totally.
Besides that it would have to be the washing machine. I could cope with eating cold food if there was no oven, microwave, slow cooker etc, or shopping every day if there was no fridge or freezer but washing clothes by hand is a long, tiring and thankless task with often poor results, especially when there's 5 adult sized people in the house.

I would find it difficult without my laptop. So much happend online.

finleypop · 16/11/2017 12:34

My laptop. I am disabled & have to do most of my shopping online

iut044 · 16/11/2017 12:36

My laptop that I use to go on the internet everyday .

devito92 · 16/11/2017 12:42

The kettle it gets me started to face the day, a five minute break to myself and always a chance to speak to others

lhlee62 · 16/11/2017 12:48

I could live without my laptop, but I couldn't live without my smartphone as I pretty much use it to run my whole entire life!

janeyf1 · 16/11/2017 12:54

I would be lost without my phone and my tv. My phone is essential all day every day and my tv is company and keeps the household amused and quiet

InvisibleKittenAttack · 16/11/2017 13:17

Freezer or microwave. They just feel like basics.

Yaracuy · 16/11/2017 13:36

In truth I could not live without electricity. I love reading and it would be absolutely lost if I can't have a book near my bed.

meepmoop79 · 16/11/2017 13:37

I feel as though i could cope quite well with the loss of any non-essential electric device. (I'm counting the fridgefreezer, washing machine and tumble dryer as essential).
Though i would miss my kindle.

johnsonp100 · 16/11/2017 13:45

A difficult one - probably my phone. It has the kindle app on, it makes me feel connected with the world and it has my music on. Embarrassing to admit but it's true. I'd shop daily/ cook over a barbecue if I could keep my phone!

ThenBellaDidSomethingVeryKind · 16/11/2017 13:51

It's definitely my iPad. I'm never without it. The kids share one too, and it's got us out of all manner of scrapes.

mooota1514 · 16/11/2017 14:26

My hair drier! There isn't really a good alternative, I live my laptop but I think I could live without it if need be-not so sure about my hairdryer though.

BellaWella86 · 16/11/2017 14:36

It would definitely be my kettle that I would struggle without! It broke a few years back when my DS was a little baby. Going caffeine free for a few days was awful!

kayleigh39 · 16/11/2017 14:40

I am absolutely lost without my mobile phone - not because I'm glued to it like he youth of today, but because I casually browse when I'm bored. My phone broke, so I've been without one for three weeks now - so I have to wait until I get home to access my computer.
