Now that the nights are drawing in, and with half term around the corner, movie nights can be a great way to spend some quality time with your family and enjoy the warm indoors. To celebrate their new collection of Animated movies, Sky Cinema would like to hear about your family’s favourite animation films, both new and old.

Here’s what Sky Cinema has to say: “This October, Sky Cinema has put together our biggest ever collection of animated movies to brighten up your Autumn. The collection includes a wide range of animated movies, from the latest hits such as Sing and Kubo and the Two Strings to Disney-Pixar movies like The Incredibles or the Ice Age movies. All available to watch whenever you want on demand.”

Has a recent release, such as Secret Life of Pets or Trolls, become a firm favourite? Or, do you love the nostalgia of passing on a classic like Fantasia? Whether your family prefer the new ones or the classics, or both, Sky Cinema would like to hear about your favourite animation films - and why they manage to make it onto the list.

All who post below about their family’s favourite animation films will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

The Shrek films are firm favourites in our house. Always so cheery and funny!

allthingsred · 17/10/2017 18:02

Toy story, the lion king & the little mermaid

I loved the original Disney '101 Dalmations' and 'The Jungle Book'. A lot of the Disney films really- Snow white, , The Aristocats. It was very different when I was a kid and films like that that were never shown on tv, only as part of the Disney clip shows, that were always on on Bank Holidays. So, going to see one when it came around at the cinema was a big deal. If you missed it at the cinema, you didn't know when it would come on again (this was before videos- and even then, they were released to buy for a limited time).

More recent favourites that I can watch over and over are the Despicable Me films, Tangled (far superior to Frozen Grin) and Up. even if the last one makes me cry. Damnit. Grin

Oh, and I have a soft spot for 'Flushed Away' and 'Bolt' - two of ds's absolute favourites when he was little.

I love Basil The Great Mouse Detective. I think it's a Disney classic that has been forgotten - no reference to it at Disneyworld and not even a single charm for a bracelet in the gift shop. The soundtrack is great and the story is a good way to introduce younger readers to Sherlock Holmes. Plus it's the first film I saw in the pictures.

dd loves trolls, I love older ones and tangled & the little mermaid. Some great ideas on here of others to watch. We love 'cinema on the sofa' in winter

rachaelsit · 17/10/2017 21:20

We just love the minions so all those films my son is 3.5 and laughs out loud at them now!

Clawdy · 17/10/2017 21:25

Zootropolis. It's perfect for children, but plenty for adults to enjoy - that hilarious sloth scene! - and carries a really relevant message too. Love it.

Whyisitsodifficult · 17/10/2017 21:41

Fantasia is a classic. I also love the animation in Bedknobs and Broomsticks!

AugustRose · 17/10/2017 22:21

We have many favourites, Inside out, Toy Story, Monsters Inc - so many that make the DC really belly laugh - that means it's good Grin

humtum167 · 17/10/2017 22:45

Love the classics 😙
& can proudly say so do my kids !!

All time favourite is, The Lion King.

Ducknose · 18/10/2017 00:45

Zootropolis. When it came out, the message was so poignant with events in the world and closer to home. Still relevant and a fantastic way to communicate the importance of acceptance, thoughtfulness and love through showing what can happen without it in a society, to children.

We went to see Kubo & the two strings as a family and loved it - the animation was beautiful and the story had an emotional punch - plus a re-working of the Beatles' 'while my guitar gently weeps' in the soundtrack. Fantastic film.

Crumble67 · 18/10/2017 10:46

We love animated films in our household. The disney classics are a favourite, jungle book, sleeping beauty, beauty and the beast and all the Toy Story's, the artwork is amazing and such good stories. Disney Pixar make some great films, my youngest loved to watch Wall-E over and over again, especially the bit with the clip from Michael Crawford film Hello Dolly and we all love Ratatouille. We also love all the films by Hayao Miyazaki especially Totoro, although these aren't on as often as other animation although they look great and they have such wonderful imaginative stories.

I love the Toy Story movies; the characters, the fun, the sentimental theme, the music. They are a great series of movies, and we have watched them all, several times over. It would be great if there was Toy Story 4!

Diamondsandpears · 18/10/2017 15:16

Trolls, Cars, Lady and the Tramp so far.

LydiaFrances · 18/10/2017 15:18

I personally love some of the studio Ghibli films, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away etc. But they're not so good for the kids.

As it's halloween I have to mention these two animated halloween specials that were on Sky years ago called Pumpkin Moon and 13th Kitten. They were so spooky and sweet, really good animation. I'd really recommend!

Queenxaos · 18/10/2017 16:19

Kungfu panda movies, all 3 of them, my 3 year old loves the 3rd movie!!!

georgedawes · 18/10/2017 16:36

We love the old classics like Snow White, Cinderella, Jungle Book etc. Timeless!

janeyf1 · 18/10/2017 16:39

For me, the new films while more impressive visually compared to the classics, none of them are as memorable as the old family favourites such as The Aristocats and The Fox and The Hound. Purely for nostalgic reasons. As a family though, the one that we can all enjoy together is Toy Story

julieef · 18/10/2017 16:42

mine love the Disney films especially the newer ones

Ganne1 · 18/10/2017 16:47

It's always the classics for us. In those days, the films were made by film-makers not accountants and market research folk. We liked ET, fifties and sixties Disney, Tati, and my eldest even enjoyed a black-and-white Hitchcock when she was about eight.

mooota1514 · 18/10/2017 16:49

We love Disney’s Fantasia. Great animated shorts and a wonderful way to introduce classical music to little ones. Some scary bits but our 4 year old loves them!

cooperpk · 18/10/2017 16:50

Toy story is the best along with frozen

meepmoop79 · 18/10/2017 16:52

I think that "The Incredibles", "Monsters vs Aliens" and "Despicable Me 1&2" are some of the animation films that my family enjoys the best.
We very often return to these for 'Film Night' as there is something in each of these films for us all to enjoy.

TracyKNixon · 18/10/2017 16:53

My kids all enjoy the Despicable Me films - in fact, I do too so we often settle down to watch them together with some popcorn!
