Technology has not only become such a big part of our lives, but it’s also evolving at a rapid rate, meaning that we can often feel that our computers and laptops aren’t keeping up with the needs of our families. Whether you and your family need a laptop just to browse the web and keep in touch with friends or you have creative needs that need to be met, Intel would like to hear about what you’d look for when purchasing a new PC or laptop for your family.

Here’s what Intel have to say: “If your computer is more than a handful of years old, you’re missing more than you know! Today’s Modern PCs are more powerful, lighter and have a longer battery life. But with so many different options available how do you know which one to choose for your family? Whether your children are school aged or studying at college or university there is some great video advice on how to choose here.

A new thin and light laptop with an Intel® Pentium® processor is perfect for homework, watching video clips and streaming movies from a service like Netflix*. However, if your child is more creative and likes to edit video or create music then they will appreciate the extra performance from an Intel® Core™ processor.

Computers with the latest Intel® Core™ processor inside are more amazing than ever. They have the fast performance to switch between multiple applications simultaneously and stunning 4K Ultra HD visuals. The long battery life is perfect to keep children happy when travelling. Some now have screens that flip over to stand like a tent – which is great for watching movies. Plus, there are new ways to interact with your computer, including voice and touch control and Windows Hello allows uses facial recognition for hassle-free log-ins. With a range of smart, stylish designs and screen sizes, there’s an Intel®-powered laptop at Argos to fit any budget.”

Do you have a resident gamer who needs the software to be fast? Perhaps you look for a long battery life to ensure your children can watch a full movie without needing a charger? Or maybe your family has a creative flare, so you look for a laptop and/or PC with extra performance to edit video, create music and or just manage lots of photographs?

Whatever your family would be able to do with a new PC and/or laptop, share this on the thread below. All MNers who comment on the thread will be entered into a prize draw, where one lucky MNer will win a £300 Argos voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

My daughter has been asking me for months and months for Minecraft for the pc.She finally bought herself it from her birthday money for £18.99.We entered the online code she purchased only for minecraft to fail to download due to an out of date graphics card or something on our pc.Everyday she asks me too try and download it again. It's heartbreaking to be in a position where I can't do anything.A new upto date laptop would be amazing .This would make a 8 year old and her mum very happy .

mollymoo818 · 11/09/2017 16:02

My laptop is used for everything from shopping to the kids doing their homework on it so a new one would make everyone's life easier especially mine as I could give the kids the old one and just use a new one all for myself ;-) Also I would love something a little bit more powerful for editing photos on.

windowmouse · 11/09/2017 16:10

My baby is on;y 3 months old but having another laptop would mean that mummy and daddy aren't fighting over our current computer. I would also like to work from home when my mat leave ends so it would be perfect for that.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 11/09/2017 17:55

We have 1 laptop between 4 of us (and no tablets) so an additional laptop would be very useful!
I like to do photography so need lots of space for my many pics; DH is into games so would use it for that; and the DC will be getting into music & film before we know it so we'll need a faster, longer battery life gadget to keep them happy!

BL0SS0M · 12/09/2017 00:26

I might actually be able to get a chance to use one as everyone always takes mine to do their homework or watch a movie!

HopefulHamster · 12/09/2017 00:28

We need a family PC that my son can use for coding, homework, writing and so on. I have a creaky old machine for work that I can't risk letting him on - but he's at an age where he would hugely benefit from
Being more pc literate.

SirNiallDementia · 12/09/2017 00:38

My kids don't have laptops or computers at home but DS1 is about to start high school so a laptop would be really useful for his homework and I'm sure for some gaming once he's finished his homework!

Quietvoiceplease · 12/09/2017 06:24

I have three daughters and one laptop between them, which they are increasingly dependent upon for doing their homework. The negotiations about whose turn it is to use the laptop, and whose need it greatest, would put UN negotiators to shame. How much I'd like to have an additional laptop in order to make it possible for two of them to have access at the same time!

TroubleInSnowland · 12/09/2017 06:46

Our computer was bought in the dark ages and desperately needs upgrading. Dc both use it for their homework and as they are in senior school it's starting to get used more and more. Ds also tries to use it for gaming but it is woefully underpowered meaning he can't do everything he wants to. We would love to have a new computer.

MummyBtothree · 12/09/2017 07:18

We currently have no PC/laptop at the moment as our other gave up a few weeks ago & with three children we could really do with one - in fact they are a necessity these days!. If I was lucky enough to win the voucher that's exactly what I would be buying. Smile

carolineandbaby · 12/09/2017 07:18

I am desperate for a new lap top I am a gcse exam marking the money of which funds our family holiday each year but my current lap top is on its way out. I need a lap top with fast internet speeds and long battery life as my daughter also uses it to play minecraft.

ByseddSosij · 12/09/2017 07:25

I'm going to be really selfish at 46 years old and say I'd really like this for myself.
Always had the broken cast offs from the kids to try 'fix/repair/use.'

I've never had a new laptop in my life.

defineme · 12/09/2017 07:30

I have 3 children at secondary school and sharing a very old pc gets hairy at times when homework coincides! A new ultra portable laptop would be brilliant!

chibsortig · 12/09/2017 08:19

A new laptop would would be a godsend as I am just about to start a degree with the open university 19 years after leaving school with no qualifications, finally having found the confidence and realising that I am not stupid however i have a dated old laptop which switches its self off far more than i do and i fear i may end up loosing work. In addition my son has just begun year 9 and after picking his choices last year starts a 3 year computer sciences course for his E-Bac so being able to upgrade would make lives easier without having to save and hope nothing else cropped up in the meantime.

Invisimamma · 12/09/2017 08:22

We don't have a laptop. My son keeps getting homework with links that don't work on our tablet and I feel terrible we can't do his homework because we don't have the right kit. I know this will only get worse as he gets older, we're saving for one but it will take a while!

wheretoyougonow · 12/09/2017 08:26

Our laptop is over 10 years old Blush. A friend helpfully put a protection software thingy (see I'm technical) on it and it takes ages to set up. We hardly use it because of this. So in answer to the question, a new laptop would mean people in my house would actually use it!

Alakazam7 · 12/09/2017 09:19

I had my laptop stolen a few years ago during a house break in and not yet been able to afford to replace it unfortunately. If I had the opportunity to get a new one it would be well used here as I've recently begun fostering. I would use it for record keeping on the children and dealing with emails as well as researching different strategies to help the little ones I care for. It would also be put to great use by the children to support their learning and motivate them to catch up educationally. Through researching places to visit, producing projects and PowerPoint. finding things out, printing their work, even making simple films etc. It could also be used as a reward for good behaviour! The chance to play a game or go online would be a good reward for them.
For all these reasons would love to win this...
Thank you

Hairq · 12/09/2017 09:26

My DS is currently obsessed with writing stories. He loves to type them and it would be so handy to have a laptop so I could get him off the PC when I need to work.

manfalou · 12/09/2017 10:21

My eldest is just starting to become interested in programming (just like daddy!) So a new laptop of his own would mean he could pursue this interest a little more

badgermum · 12/09/2017 11:44

We look for a speedy laptop to keep up with childrens online homework, check emails, store photos and also keep in contact with family in the USA so a good all rounder is what we need

Lucky1810 · 12/09/2017 12:38

A new laptop would means we don't have to rely on our iPad and phone to go online. Lately looking for a new home to move and it's hard to view photos and it can take ages to load on phone. We can also sort out the huge amount of photographs and videos accumulated in the last 5 years and store them safely worried what if we lose all our precious moments of our little girl since she is born.

Pigeonpea · 12/09/2017 13:16

Enable my little girl to do her school work independently and also offer her the oppurtunity to connect with friends that have moved via facetime when she wants, as opposed to when the PC is free

ohlittlepea · 12/09/2017 13:34

This household would make great use of a new lap top! We would love a bigger screen to skype our family abroad, its fun to share dinner time together across the miles. I am at university, My husband is at college and my daughter loves playing on apps and games. The Cbeebies website especially!

newlabelwriter · 12/09/2017 13:35

My DS is 7 and obsessed with getting a new laptop for his 'music / dance studio'. The best thing about the studio is that as yet it doesn't actually exist except for in his imagination but he is very detailed about what he needs his laptop to do; create music programmes, have bluetooth, be able to plug in his projector (he loves films), show videos of himself and DD doing their dance routines. On a more practical level I would love it, as we have an ancient Mac at home which I can't get on with and my DD would love one for homework (as well as showing off her dance moves).

janeycat · 12/09/2017 14:05

It would be used for everything and anything from keeping in touch with family to shopping to watching silly videos of animals on Youtube and doing my taxes or checking up symptoms when we're feeling unwell. My son would use it for gaming no doubt he loves to play!
