Technology has not only become such a big part of our lives, but it’s also evolving at a rapid rate, meaning that we can often feel that our computers and laptops aren’t keeping up with the needs of our families. Whether you and your family need a laptop just to browse the web and keep in touch with friends or you have creative needs that need to be met, Intel would like to hear about what you’d look for when purchasing a new PC or laptop for your family.

Here’s what Intel have to say: “If your computer is more than a handful of years old, you’re missing more than you know! Today’s Modern PCs are more powerful, lighter and have a longer battery life. But with so many different options available how do you know which one to choose for your family? Whether your children are school aged or studying at college or university there is some great video advice on how to choose here.

A new thin and light laptop with an Intel® Pentium® processor is perfect for homework, watching video clips and streaming movies from a service like Netflix*. However, if your child is more creative and likes to edit video or create music then they will appreciate the extra performance from an Intel® Core™ processor.

Computers with the latest Intel® Core™ processor inside are more amazing than ever. They have the fast performance to switch between multiple applications simultaneously and stunning 4K Ultra HD visuals. The long battery life is perfect to keep children happy when travelling. Some now have screens that flip over to stand like a tent – which is great for watching movies. Plus, there are new ways to interact with your computer, including voice and touch control and Windows Hello allows uses facial recognition for hassle-free log-ins. With a range of smart, stylish designs and screen sizes, there’s an Intel®-powered laptop at Argos to fit any budget.”

Do you have a resident gamer who needs the software to be fast? Perhaps you look for a long battery life to ensure your children can watch a full movie without needing a charger? Or maybe your family has a creative flare, so you look for a laptop and/or PC with extra performance to edit video, create music and or just manage lots of photographs?

Whatever your family would be able to do with a new PC and/or laptop, share this on the thread below. All MNers who comment on the thread will be entered into a prize draw, where one lucky MNer will win a £300 Argos voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Something lightweight is ideal for us, as I have health issues and work from home, so something I can take to the bed/sofa and carry on working makes a huge difference. I use my laptop for nearly everything - online shopping, banking, studying as well as writing for work.

DD1 is getting towards the age where she needs her own laptop for schoolwork, so we'll be looking for something basic for her to get started with soon.

Helsbells68 · 10/09/2017 08:57

My laptop seems to spend more time in for repairs than it does with me.

dilydaly · 10/09/2017 10:38

My daughter has been asking for a laptop for a long time now. She's starting to get more and more work in school so a laptop would be brilliant for her to do all her projects and for her to study. I'm sure she'd love to play games on it too :D Thanks

Bendigedig1 · 10/09/2017 11:03

We use laptops for education purposes which compliments projects and activities. We like to learn together as a family through different typesof media.

My eldest has just started Year 10, an important year for GCSE's, so a new laptop would mean the world to him, for assignments, research, presentations and essay writing. For us, it would mean the family laptop is free to use for the more fun things, like streaming music, shows and films, and gaming, and the memory isn't being slowed down with documents etc.

AR2012 · 10/09/2017 11:59

We just need a laptop for web browsing and streaming

StewPots · 10/09/2017 15:36

I would love a new laptop! The one I'm currently using is ancient, ridiculously slow and has several keys missing (yeah, cheers for that dog!)... I'm currently doing a Management diploma and am having to hand-write everything due to my useless computer....time to get a new one i think!

spanglisher · 10/09/2017 15:49

For me, the most important thing is a processor that can handle lots of things going on at the same time. Our current laptop freezes if I have more than a couple of browser pages open at the same time and streaming is almost impossible

sophiefx · 10/09/2017 16:12

I would be able to shop for my 9 week old daughter!! Shh don't tell OH ;)

feefeegabor · 10/09/2017 16:32

My eldest daughter has just entered her GCSE year and is taking Computing. As part of the course, she has to "write" a program for a music game so a new laptop would be just perfect for this!

SSCRASE123 · 10/09/2017 16:43

Our family could use a new laptop to plan a budget, meal times and most importantly to us research holiday destinations.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 10/09/2017 16:44

I'd love a new, lighter laptop. I'd use it to work on the train when working in a different city. I hate tapping e-mails on my phone but I can't carry my current laptop.
I'd let my son play games on Steam that his laptop is too slow for.
I'd use Photoshop without it lagging and crashing as much.

ANNEKS · 10/09/2017 17:35

We have family and friends all over the world and it would be amazing to Skype them to keep up with all their news - the ancient one we use virtually uses dial up!

HowsAnnie25 · 10/09/2017 18:01

My son is in Year 11 and it's really hard getting all his work done at the moment so a new laptop would be for his GCSE work.

Cailin7 · 10/09/2017 18:19

we are sharing a 5 year old laptop at moment which is a bit slow. Our DS could benefit from a new one for his A-level studies.

sweetdiversion1 · 10/09/2017 18:25

Basically everything! DDs use it for homework. DD2 even has to do her reading online. Then there is also Youtube and their fascination with bloggers and the opening of toys/sweets/whatever lol.

Myself I use it for creating nice decorative posters for the new seasons. I also love to stream music whilst working.

littlemonkeyz · 10/09/2017 18:40

I would use it to save the world (just wishing my name was Danger Mouse).

pinkjjf27 · 10/09/2017 19:02

I am a teacher and i do a lot of my prep work like handouts and activity sheets, reports log sheets at home so i use a laptop for that. I use a tablet for things like eBay but a laptop does so much more. I could really do with two so there is one for the family so i didn't get so anxious about getting my deadlines met.

Abominus · 10/09/2017 19:27

My desktop PC is showing it's age and with 4 people using it, computer time is at a premium. Would love a nice new laptop for work and internet browsing. Hell, i might even dust my old music production stuff and get back into that.

Gillian1980 · 10/09/2017 19:53

I have a work laptop but I daren't let my daughter use it!

It would be amazing to have a family laptop we could all use and I could use to teach my daughter about IT.

queenoftheschoolrun · 10/09/2017 19:56

Our laptop is ancient and so slow. I have thousands of photos to edit and save but it would take me years at the speed it works so I'm waiting until it dies and we have to get a new one!

Sillysausage123 · 10/09/2017 20:00

We don't have a laptop but if we did I'd let my son try his hand at YouTube videos as he would love to be the next Dan TDM.
He is also into coding and a laptop would be handy

starlight36 · 10/09/2017 20:03

Our laptop is six years old and suddenly seems to take ages to boot up and then to open the search engine or Word or Excel. I just think of all the time I must waste waiting for it to set up.

gethro · 10/09/2017 20:04

I had an old laptop i bought second hand on Ebay 3 years ago which I used for work stuff,my daughter and grandson moved back in with us 3 months ago when she split from her husband, the grandson loves to watch Super mario on YouTube (someone completing the levels ) he has been using my laptop but it's so slow and lags all the time.
A new laptop would make his day...

helly27 · 10/09/2017 20:13

I would give it to my daughter as her own school work computer, as so much more homework and research now needs a computer to be able to complete
