Lidl has a couple of questions about your weekly shop that they’d love you to answer over the next 48 hours!

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

Please post your thoughts below and one MNer will win a £50 Love2Shop voucher (note it will be 2x£25 vouchers, one per transaction).

Good luck with the prize draw!

We go to Sainsburys/Tesco/Iceland/Asda/Morrisons. We go to all these places as they are convenient, have good brands, good prices and, apart from Asda, have good loyalty cards.

There aren't enough around, i don't find them convenient. I don't like the stock they have, for example, they don't have all the things i like, the brands i like and it doesn't excite me what they do have. I find the range very unique but too unique to make me want to go there. To me, it is a 'foreign' food shop.

  1. Waitrose as it has all the brands I love.

  1. Range of food isn't diverse enough. Cannot get brands like Fage Total Greek yoghurt, would be very willing to swap to Lidl if they did an equivalent like Aldi do sometimes.

  1. Don't do a weekly shop - have a monthly Ocado delivery, top ups at Sainsbury's and Waitrose and have a veg box/milk delivered.

  1. There's not a Lidl close enough to warrant me going there and the ones I've been in I've found to be dingy, poorly lit and cluttered - not a pleasant shopping experience.

We have been doing our shopping on line at Tesco as this has been the most convenient for us not having had a car for years. Our nearest Lidl is 12 miles away, so it would be very difficult to get their and back without spending a small fortune on taxi fare! However, we've literally just bought a car, after my husband's been off the road for 4 years due to ill health (and I can't drive), so I'm ridiculously excited that we'll now be able to get to Lidl and browse round all the bargains!

  1. I do my weekly shop at Lidl.

  1. It is cheaper than anywhere else. Fruit and veg are usually good quality. Not bothered about brand names.

Nearest Lidls are 10 miles from home but worth driving for the savings.
  1. (Ish) From a purely personal viewpoint it would be useful to have more Quorn products.

Aldi is closer.

  1. We go to Lidl for the price and quality of the produce

We do our main shop in Lidl. In the past we shopped there less when they didn't stock Quorn but they have it now and more other vegetarian options, so we go there every week. The main reason is the price, of course...

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular? Morrison's, as it's close, convenient and reasonably-priced

Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere? I hate the staff's insistence that we place our trolleys at the check-out the way they want them placed. It's quite humiliating.

I have to take my elderly parents shopping and they do love Lidl BUT our nearest branch is 20 miles away and they are not always up for the travelling. I therefore tend to take them to Sainsbury's the most as it is nearer to us. As I am there I end up getting most of my shopping there too but I also like Lidl and Aldi for top ups of things that are just so much more competitive in price and value for money.

I usually do my main shop at Aldi, I would use Lidl as it's closer but Aldi has a larger range of produce.

When I do go to Lidl rather than Aldi it's because they are both great on price and have different offers on every time I go!

I get my main weekly shop from Ocado - because frankly I hate food shopping and doing it on line is easier. If I haven't managed to get a delivery slot I want, I'll go to Sainsburys, because the store near us has a good range and their quality is good.

We do have a Lidl in our town, I don't use it for our weekly shop for a few reasons. Firstly, because the range isn't all that great, so I'd still end up driving to Sainsburys, andI can't be arsed doing 2 shops in order to save £5-10 when I could just get the lot in one go. Secondly, I haven't been all that impressed with the quality of the meat and some of the fruit and veg from there has been oddly tasteless.

If I'm passing and need just a couple of things, then I'll pop in and get them rather than go to the effort of driving to Sainsburys, but Lidl isn't somewhere I plan to go to for a big shop.

I go to ASDA because I like some of their products very much and when I find something I like I tend to stick with them.

I do not do a main shop at Lidl because of prices.See next answer also.

I go to Lidl maybe once a week lately but do not do a main shop there because when I hit ASDA/Morrisons/Tesco/M&S at the right times their daily mark downs are extensive and sometimes very cheap and have never seen the same or similar at the local Lidl

I usually shop at Aldi, Morrison's and occasionally Sainsbury's. Aldi is because of the location, cheap prices and decent quality. Morrison's and Sainsbury's is due to the good location and if I need something branded or a bit more luxury from the deli or butchers/fish counter.

  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

I don't often go to Lidl because it is too far away and in an awkward location right on the cross road junction that you can never pull out of. I need to turn right out of the store, but have to cut across 3-4 lanes of traffic which just isn't possible, so have to turn left, drive a distance before turning down a side street to go back on myself.

I really like the food at Lidl and have noticed some nice new products recently like a prawn ready made low calorie meal and the fresh anchovies that you sell.

There is a new Lidl opening down the road, hopefully in 2017, so I will definitely be using that as my new place for a weekly shop alongside Aldi and Morrison's.

  1. I mainly shop online with Ocado - because I like their food, they have good offers and I have like to do my main shop from home after work.
  2. The main reason I don't shop there is because I shop online. Other reasons - now and again I do go to our local Lidl - across town - and they nearly always have empty space where the things I have gone for should be (their Cava Brut, nice plain crisps and smoked salmon - I sound a bit precious don't I!!?). They also don't have enough choice generally, I'm unable to do a full shop there. The things they do have I really do like though.

I'm a shopping floozie as we shop in lots of places including Lidl. A new branch has opened up close ish (6/7miles) and it is nice to be able to get the great bargains. Likewise, we also have an M &S and we shop theire when we fancy treating ourselves. The only shop we do not use is Tesco as we do not like them.

Waitrose. Because it's 2 mins away. And I do like their stuff.

2. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

N/A Don't go to Lidl

Simply too far away (14 miles one way). We try and get there every month or so when we've run out of stuff we can only get there, like a lot of German foodstuffs (MIL is German so DH grew up with it). Ironically the next nearest Lidl is about 14.5 miles in the other direction, so we're literally caught in the middle. Aldi is at least only 6 miles away so we do get some stuff there...

One day I hope they'll build in our town...

Our weekly shop alternates every week between Lidl and Aldi, mainly because I can't decide which is better value but both are cheaper and as good a quality as Tesco/Sainsburys etc.

I can get everything I need easily because I only buy basic fresh food and cook from scratch so fruit/veg and meat/fish and basic dairy like cheese and yoghurt.

The only time I shop in a bigger supermarket like Tesco is when I need a certain spice because I find out local Lidl doesn't stock a lot of herbs and spices, my only other big bare with out branch of Lidl is that there are often pallets of meat left out on the shop floor for what seems like a long time and I'm not sure how safe that is.

The best thing about Lidl though which keeps me coming back is the bakery and the quality of the food and the price!
My kids would also love it if you'd bring back Stickies!
