Lidl has a couple of questions about your weekly shop that they’d love you to answer over the next 48 hours!

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

Please post your thoughts below and one MNer will win a £50 Love2Shop voucher (note it will be 2x£25 vouchers, one per transaction).

Good luck with the prize draw!

1- Lidl, firstly due to price. I like the fact that I can view your special offers online and I can plan my meal plan before I get there.

2- price. However I have noticed price rises over the last few months, if they rise much more I may start buying elsewhere.

3- I don't always get fruit and veg from yourselves, things don't last and it's a pain to have to take them back to store as I do t drive.

I go to Aldi as it's much cheaper than Asda where we used to go. It's really good quality, even the toiletries and seems to add things that we have to go elsewhere for quite rapidly. For example, we used to have to get stick cubes from elsewhere but gradually lines are added.
I would like to see wholemeal ranges extended.

We don't go to Lidl for a weekly shop but as we had one across the road from our last house we used to pop in very regularly. I think I've found that we used Lidl more for convenience foods. I've found the meat a little more expensive and a little lower quality and I think sole of the products in general are slightly lower in quality. Not terrible and I could be mistaken but they have been many products in Aldi that have amazed me with their quality for the price- wrinkle creams, perfumes, clothes, designer style candles, etc. However the Lidl bakery stuff is lovely for a treat if a little repetitive

My main weekly shop is at Tesco because it is walking distance from home.

I would use Lidl if it was closer as my friends use Lidl and like the price and quality.

At the moment any savings would be offset by the time and cost of getting to Lidl

Lidl and Sainburys because of cost and location respectively.

Go to Lidl for the deli stuff and cheaper prices on every day items. It's slightly closer to home and love the bakery :-).

I shop at Tesco because it's close to my home it's quick and convenient to do a quick shop without taking too long and I know were everything is and it has good offers

My weekly shop is split between Tesco and Sainsburys as they are both close to my home and I like the products they sell in each.

I have shopped in Lidl a few times but have been put off from shopping there again as last time I went I got a parking ticket even though I scanned my receipt. I appealed it and it was cancelled as I produced my receipt to prove I was shopping there but the experience has put me off from going back.

  1. Tesco, because we earn Avios points :)

  1. N/A

  1. I feel like we can't get a full compliment of weekly shopping at our Lidl - there will always be one or two items that we need to go to another shop for. The price is great but as we are short on time, it's more convenient to go somewhere like Tesco (plus we get Avios points!)

I have only recently 'discovered' Lidl, as I admit I was a 'brand snob', but after a visit I am sold! My nearest Lidl is around 5 minutes drive from me, and when I fill my trolley full of the fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy, tins of soup and bread and get to the checkout, I am always surprised I can get so much for so little. The car park is easy to park, and there is always plenty of room. I now have my firm favourites like the Milbona yoghurts, and Newgate soups which are better than the brands I used to buy. At the end of the month I have saved over £200 from my shopping budget.

I do my weekly shop at my local Tescos because it's convenient but I do a main monthly shop at Lidl because of the price. I would shop at Lidl exclusively if there was a one located in my geographical area.

I alternate my main weekly shops between Aldi and Lidl. Aldi closer to us, but I go to a music lesson near Lidl once a week so I always pop in there. I love the lidl philosophy, no bogofs! I top up in Sainsbury's every few weeks, just with stuff you don't sell.

I have Tesco online delivery. This is for convenience and to help stop me impulse buying.
I don't go to Lidl because they don't do home delivery (I think).

I use Tesco because they deliver to my door at a convenient time and they have everything in one place for ease. I have a very busy job as a social worker (don't hold it against me!) so I don't want to spend time in supermarkets!
I don't use Lidl because they don't have everything I need! Plus on a more personal note, I can see my local Lidl store from my window and they allow wagons to come at all hours waking me up. So I won't shop there out of principle!! Take care of your neighbouring residents Lidl!

  1. We go to Lidl for our main weekly big shopping.
  2. The main reasons are because it has the best prices for most of the things and also we have favourite products with high quality but cheap in price.
  3. We buy some things from Aldi and Sainsbury's, which we can't find in Lidl.

I do ours at Tesco. There is a a Lidl opposite and the car park always seems full but the quality, particularly the fruit and veg, just doesn't appeal. I quite like Aldi and one has opened nearby so will probably do some shopping there in future.

I used to shop at Lidl but have recently changed to a new Aldi that has just opened, much easier to get to as it is out of town. Lidl don't seem to have the same range or quality of fruit/veg/salad as Aldi does, particularly stir fry.

My main shop is split between Aldi & Asda, with a top up shop from Morrison's because it is closer. This covers all our shopping requirements. I use these supermarkets of habit

  1. Lidl, but a few things every day rather than one large shop.
  2. Good range of quality products, nice staff.

My main weekly shop is at Aldi because I can get almost everything I need and it is close to me and excellent quality and value. I use Tesco/Morrrisons for topup shops but feel like I've wasted money if I get my big weekly shop there.

I don't go to Lidl as the nearest one is half an hour by car away and I don't have transport (I walk to the supermarkets I use and get a taxi home if the shopping is too much to carry). I have been to Lidl with relatives who do have transport and thought it was brilliant. There is talk of one opening in my town and if it does I will definitely use it regularly and will probably alternate between Lidl and Aldi for my main shop.

Aldi, as it is the nearest supermarket and prices are good as well as quality, but choice is limited.

Nearest Lidl is a bus journey away and I don't drive. I am limited by this, although I would like to have more choice nearby.

  1. I shop at either Aldi or Lidl, I do most of my shop there and then go elsewhere for things I can't buy there. I find this saves me the most money while also getting my high quality, fresh items.

  1. I go to lidl. There are the main 3 in driving distance, lidl is actually the furthest but the one I choose
2). It is definitely the cheapest shop by a long way. Family of 5 and £65 per week including booze & lots of treats. But that is only if avoid the "middle aisle of doom"!!!! I honestly think I'd still shop there if the price was comparable- I find the quality far better. There are the odd items I can't get which I top up on elsewhere and I hate the bread, but other than that it is far and away the best quality. Meat always beautiful, veg fresh & brilluantvweekly offers. Wine is gorgeous (Rioja especially).

I live close to an Asda, Sainsbury's, Morrison's, Lidl and Aldi. I choose to do my weekly shop at Aldi most weeks. Sometimes i have an Asda delivery, or pop into Asda as there area a few things i particularly like from Asda, but Aldi is my main shop. I choose to shop there (rather than Lidl) because the fresh food is usually very good quality and they stock most things i buy. Lidl is a couple of miles further away for me and the is no particular reason why i would drive those extra miles when Aldi slightly has the edge on price and quality for me. I love the super six at Aldi.

  1. Tesco. it's closest but I typically shop online due to time (FT and kids).
  2. Rarely shop in Lidl.
  3. Mostly because I don't have time to get to my local one. I would not do a whole shop in there anyway as there are things they don't stock. I like online shopping but consider it fun to buy a few bits in Lidl on a sat (more time!)
