Lidl has a couple of questions about your weekly shop that they’d love you to answer over the next 48 hours!

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

Please post your thoughts below and one MNer will win a £50 Love2Shop voucher (note it will be 2x£25 vouchers, one per transaction).

Good luck with the prize draw!

Aldi or Lidl 1/4 of the time on a cost basis - I can get more for my money, but I need access to the car and this isn't often practical as a one car family.

Tesco/ Sainsbury the rest of the time - big online deliveries from Tesco and top up shops from Sainsbury (walk-able distance)

Wheni shop there reason is cost - it keeps my shopping costs low and i can afford more. I would struggle without an occasional Lidl/ Aldi shop. I would shop at Lidl all the time if there was an online delivery option.

I tend to do online shopping with Asda for convenience. If lidl did offer online shopping i would consider shopping there for cheaper prices and if it was better quality

I mostly shop at Aldi as it is easy to get to and does good value items and its easy to do a quick shop in record time, I then do a top up shop at lidl for some specific items that I love and also Asda again as its convenient to get to and does cheap reduced items at a time I am passing.

I shop at Lidl every week for about 10 years now. It's the most local supermarket to me, so convenience is a big draw. There's only 3 aisles which is perfect, I can be in and out within 30 minutes. I do not want to spend 2 hours in a superstore buying our groceries, actually the thought of that brings me out in a cold sweat. It's good value and the quality is excellent. I like the special buys too. Unless the quality plummets, I can't see me shopping elsewhere.

I actually go to Lidl most of the times, because it's cheap and convenient. I stock up on rice and pasta, cans of tomatoes, tuna, cheese as well as fruit and veg. I also get nappies from there as I find them better quality than big brands. I also regularly go to my local Sainburys and Waitrose because they are closer, and they stock up things like organic yoghurt and fruit compote for the children.

Being a European myself, I like the range of cheese and other items from mainland Europe that I can't find anywhere else. I am also really happy with the increasing range of organic products available, such as milk, eggs, carrots, onions etc, so I now mainly do my fruit and veg shop from there. It would be great if there were even more! I also like the fact that I can get products from the UK, and I always check provenance of the things I buy. I find Lidl products generally cheaper and better quality than other supermarkets. Shopping experience is not the best, especially since automated tills were introduced, as there are often big queues and few 'normal' tills working. However, I find the staff very polite and professional, and I also like that there seems to be lower staff turnover than other places, so the staff are all familiar.

I do online shopping, 3/4 weeks Ocado for the convenience of their delivery slots, 1/4 Tesco to stock on the Everyday Value items

I use online shopping for convenience as we have 2 kids and when not on mat leave we both work full time and don't want to waste our time stressed at the supermarket with two kids

  1. I don't really do a weekly shop any more. I go to Lidl about once a week for a general shop because it's a short walk away and cheap. I go to M&S food a couple of times a week for naice ready meals and sausage rolls and dh usually goes to the Big Tesco with the car once a week because it's on the way back from swimming and sells lots of things because it's an Extra store. I do an occasional Ocado shop too for store cupboard and freezer things I can't get elsewhere or carry.

  1. I go to Lidl for the price and because it's convenient. I also like a browse down the Aisle of Dreams™ as dh and I call it. I particularly like the cheese, antibac wipes, fresh fruit and veg and the big tubs of Greek yoghurt and flavoured Skyr. You recently did some porcetta on an Italian themed promotion that was a-mazing. Please start doing it again!

  1. When I go elsewhere it's because I can't get the things I want. This tends to be refrigerated ready meals, family sized desserts (like cheesecake), fresh deli items like sausage rolls and caponata, packaged croissants (sorry but your packaged breakfast pastries taste weird), fresh fish, organic milk, free range meat, non-stick scouring sponges, elderflower cordial or when I need to be sure of being able to get something specific for a recipe. Another thing that is probably specific to me, is that sometimes what I want to buy comes in such large quantities I can't carry it. I come on foot (won't drive) so i'm limited to what I can physically carry and I'm fairly sturdy.

I go to Lidl.

It is only a 10 minute drive, and if I go early (8 or 9), I can only park.

I shop there mainly as I like the fruit and veg so much (seasonal, fresh, not too expensive, and not kept in refrigerated area). I also like the bakery and the cleaning products.

  1. I don't do much shopping at Lidl, unfortunately! I do an online shop with Morrisons.

  1. It's too far from me and I don't drive

  1. I need to do a weekly shop online now. If Lidl delivered that would be amazing but right now I can only go to Lidl maybe once a month for a few bits

We mostly go to Tesco and Morrisons for ease. We don't have a Lidl in our town but I have visted a few times when elsewhere (mostly for the rather yummy cheese straws!)

I would struggle to do a full shop in Lidl but would pop in more if we had one locally

Shop in Aldi most weeks - we have one five mins from us so I can walk down to top up, and it's very convenient.

Prefer Lidl and it's produce - think they're higher quality and the fresh fruit and veg lasts longer, but can't get to it as easily.

Lidl, because it's really cost effective, decent and I can get most things I need. Tesco if I need to do an online order because we're very busy/ill etc.

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

Price, speed of checkout Wink. I love it when I can get free range chicken and organic milk and veg there - more of that please!

I'll use Tesco if I need an online shop delivered as above. I can also get more free range and organic stuff there (I try and buy organic dairy and meat when possible). And real yoghurt with the proper good bacteria in it - I can only get strawberry activia (or horrible low fat peach) at my local Lidl which gets boring! Would like better natural yoghurt.

I don't have anywhere specific. I tend to shop at Aldi & Lidl for most things but use Morrisons & Tescos for items I can't buy at Lidl/Aldi. I find parking near Lidl bad (as it's in the town centre) which gives Aldi a slight advantage as it's also nearer my home. I do try to get to Lidl on a weekly basis but only if I can manage to be out of the house early (about 8.00 - 8.30 am) to get parked!
I love many of the products at Lidl - as well as excellent prices the quality is very good. An improved parking situation and perhaps quicker checkout experience or even self scanning would see me shop there more often!

I do my weekly shop in Tesco because I do it online and have delivery saver with them. We do top up shop in Aldi but a Lidl is supposed to be coming near us and I'll definitely check that out, probably do some top up shops there too. My mum shops at Lidl and is always pleased with it
I would really like to see scan and shop type of set up in store though, like Tesco, where you scan it yourself as you go round the shop so don't need to pack and unpack at the checkout. This is the main thing that would make me do bigger shop in the store - I guess I am a bit lazy but it just makes it so much easier!

  1. I usually do my main shop at Tesco as it's closer and has everything I need. I'm vegan so prefer their items from the free from range like thief cheese, yoghurt, milk, ice cream etc. I occasionally shop at Lidl or Aldi but because of limited range for free from items, will usually have to top up at Tesco.
  2. My local Lidl is situated by a retail park do convenient if I visit there. It's cheaper than Tesco with many products. I usually buy my tin veggies here
  3. As stated above, the main reason is the lack of free from dairy range as well as online shopping.

I do my weekly shop at morrisons as I can get all I need there.

I go to lidl most days for fresh veg but mostly for a top up shop but there are certain items I regularly buy because they are better value for money and a lot cheaper cleaning items especially.

Unfortunately lidl does not have all the products we require

I have to agree with a previous comment. The only negative experience about Lidl is the check out as there are never enough cashiers (two at best at my local where there are 6 checkouts) and invariably, there will be someone with a huge shopping ahead of you. An express line for 10 items or less or self service checkout for smaller shops would help tremendously in this experience.

  1. I go to Sainsburys because it is the nearest reasonably large supermarket and the other close one is Waitrose but the prices are higher so I avoid Waitrose! I also shop online at Tesco because of the wide selection of items and for convenience.
  2. I don't go to Lidl
  3. I would go to Lidl if there was one closer to my home

1 Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

We split our main shop between Lidl and the Co-op, depending on what Lidl has in stock, we then buy the rest from the Co-Op

2 If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

Price
Ease of shopping experience

3 If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

  1. Usually Morrisons, as it's the closest!

  1. I don't shop at Lidl

  1. I've been in before and not found much that I fancied - so haven't tried it since (I know that's silly!)

1)I do not really do a main weekly shop any more but tend to do bits of shopping a few times a week. Sainsburys and lidls are my two main shops
2) I go to Lidls as it is the closest and good prices. There is plenty of good products to choose from, including vegetarian food. We even shopped in Lidls whilst on holiday in Portugal.

I do my main weekly shop online with Tesco - having a small baby this is the best option for me as I don't have to take her round the supermarket. It also allows me to keep track of what I'm spending much easier.

I don't shop at Lidl because there is no online shop option, although I have shopped there in the past and found the products reasonably priced.
