Lidl has a couple of questions about your weekly shop that they’d love you to answer over the next 48 hours!

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?
  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?
  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

Please post your thoughts below and one MNer will win a £50 Love2Shop voucher (note it will be 2x£25 vouchers, one per transaction).

Good luck with the prize draw!

I have been doing my main weekly shop at Lidl for over 10 years now and it has has improved tremendously over that time. I choose to go there because I love the products and they are great value for money.
Most of my friends now use Lidl thanks to them being introduced by me when they loved the food etc. that they get in my home.

  1. I don't really do a main shop , I shop a few times a week and generally go to Tesco and M&S . Tesco is convenient for me , I like doing scan and shop and their finest range is generally gf. Marks do certain stuff we like gf bread for example and salad stuff / sandwiches
  2. I very rarely venture into Lidl , and when I do it's generally for one of the offers . The last time was for a bike stand earlier this year .
  3. On the occasions I've been in it really just doesn't have the range / diversity I look for . I do use certain brands for loo roll / cleaners / washing etc which are not stocked .

Do my weekly shopping at Lidl cos it's cheap compared to Tesco, although Tesco is my closest but I feel satisfied travelling to Lidl. Shopping in Lidl is easy cos things can be found on shelf easily without hussle.Lidl's products are fantastic and have value for money.my favourite section is Lidl's bakery;Omg..The best soo far..I just love shopping in Lidl[Smile

  1. Main shop is an online one via Tesco. We don't really rate them quality wise but their saver delivery is great value and we can order a delivery for the next day. As we both work fulltime and have three kids we are paying for convenience.
  2. N/A
  3. If Lidl offered home delivery we would totally use them. Much prefer Lidl to Tesco in terms of food quality and price. We do buy branded items from Mr T but find a lot of Lidl items are as good quality wise as the brands - on the rare occasion that they are not, we haven't lost much by trying.

Our main shop is Lidl. It's a new store, beautifully laid out and close to,our home.

We can always park, there's no faffing about at the tils. It's a great deal cheaper than anywhere else, but the quality is excellent. The bakery is a big treat - the little goats cheese and tomato breads are gorgeous and so are the cheese topped rolls. Meat is very good too.

We used to go to Aldi sometimes, but there really is no comparison.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

Shop at Lidl for my weekly shop. Good selection at good prices - and it's quick to get round.

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?
Price: good quality, good value products - and in a strange way, because the range isn't too large, it makes the shopping quicker.
  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

Every 2-4 weeks I do need to go to Tesco/Sainsbury's to get freshly squeezed orange juice, loose Darjeeling tea and Twinings Earl Grey loose tea. But I try to minimise what I need to get there.

Bazzinga · 10/08/2017 19:44

I do my weekly shop at Lidl, there's a brand new store with the huge bakery just opened by my house

I shop there primarily because it's close to home, I'm now a single mum so need to watch my budget very carefully. I like the small range as it limits choice and therefor budget is easier to manage.
All the ranges I've tried so far have been great.

Only thing I'm missing is branded deodorant so far.

Ragdoll545 · 10/08/2017 20:08

I do most of my food shopping at lidl. We have one less than 5 minutes from us. The range of food and non food is fantastic. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I can also buy everything for at least half the price of Tesco.

pinkunicornsarefluffy · 10/08/2017 20:10

It is a round trip of over 40 miles to the nearest town, so I have my shopping delivered. Lidl don't do deliveries, so sadly I cannot get my weekly shop from them.

If I do go into town, then I will go to Lidl. I like that a lot of their products are so much cheaper than the supermarket, and they also do a nice range of cheese, ham and other meat.

I also love the non-food aisles and always end up with a bargain or two from those.

CMOTDibbler · 10/08/2017 21:44

We don't go to the same shop every week - as I'm gluten free we rotate round different places so I can get the best bits from different shops.
We do go to Lidl, but its a bit of a trek, but my town is getting one 'soon' and we'll go much more frequently.

Krapom · 10/08/2017 21:50

1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

Lidl

2. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

It is a great deal cheaper and I find the quality great these days (especially the fresh meat and veg which 10 years ago I wouldn't have used, now I can't believe what other places are trying to charge). I often use the premium range of meat.

Also the size. I like that it's small. I live in a city where many of the supermarkets are enormous and it just takes so long to get through the place.

The random stuff in the middle is always fun.

ExhaustedPigeon · 10/08/2017 22:22
  1. I do most of my shopping at Lidl because of price, it's the closest and I like their products. The closest bit isn't a main reason as I have an Asda and an Aldi less than 100m on from the Lidl! I go to Asda for any branded stuff that I particularly like.

  2. I use Lidl because I'm always amazed at how cheap my weekly shop is. The quality is good - I like their cleaning products, fruit and veg, meat, frozen peas and tinned sweetcorn (I'm fussy about these items!). It's as good as the branded stuff and other supermarkets if not better. It doesn't have the range that some of the supermarkets do but I can get most things that I need. I also like looking at the random stuff they have in the middle isles

NannyR · 10/08/2017 22:24
  1. I do my main weekly shop at lidl and top up with bits and pieces from Morrisons and my local farm shop. I shop at lidl because it's local, lots of parking, good value for money and a good range of decent quality food. Morrisons, because it's on my way home and easy to pop in for milk and a couple of branded things that lidl don't stock (kikkoman soy sauce for example) and the farm shop because it sells lots of nice food made by local producers and I like to support local businesses.
  1. As above. Local, easy to park, good value and good food, also staff are very friendly in my local store. I find the special buys like stationery/camping/household stuff is good quality for the price. Lots of products like Greek yoghurt, mozzarella cheese, German rye bread that are much nicer than other supermarkets.
  1. I'm not at all fussy about brands, there are just a few things I can't get at lidl that I buy elsewhere, what springs to mind are maldon sea salt, bouillon powder and kikkoman soy sauce.
ohhelpohnoitsa · 10/08/2017 23:11

My main shop has to be delivered, varies between Ocado and Morrison's, occasionally Waitrose, Tesco or Sainsburys.
Delivery being the key for me

I like Lidl but live 25 min drive from one now. Reasons for liking are the prices, delicious bakery and yoga and ironically, the lack of choice. Since shopping on.line, I now ring the choice in supermarkets overwhelming, unnecessary, vulgar even - commercialism gone insane. Lidl don't have that effect-less choice of essentials like pasta etc -keeps it simple and quick.

Don't shop weekly at Lidl as too far away from me since moving. ALSO we like online ordering as it is so convenient with 2 working parents and 3 youngish children.

  1. We do our main weekly shop in Tesco, mainly because it's the most convenient supermarket for us to get to from home. We've also found their online grocery delivery reliable.
  1. We don't normally shop in Lidl.
  1. We don't shop in Lidl because there isn't one near enough to our house. We'd have to drive past several other supermarkets to get to any of the Lidl's in our area, which seems like more trouble than it's worth. I haven't shopped in Lidl often enough to know how the range of food compares to other supermarkets.
Headfullofdreams · 10/08/2017 23:32

1 I go to Aldi because it is great value and great quality

2 I don't go to li as it's too far away

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

Aldi - it's a large new store. Good car park. Good value.

Local Lidl is small and chaotic, as is the car park.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

Lidl - Because my bill at the checkout is very less compared to other local supermarkets I've been.Their products are good quality for money.

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

Again because their products are very cheap and very good as well.I love their yogurts, juice, fresh beef, porc and chicken.Good varieties of fresh vegetables, fruits, bread and cake. The range of food is very diverse as well.

Also the range of baby wipes "Toujours" is very good strong quality and good price. We used these a lot with DD,so in love with this brand, can't fault it at all.

Shopping experience : my local Lidl is small,so will buy what we really need for the week and not have any temptations on buying lot of things to waste money. We always buy foods for around the same amount each week. But if i was shopping in a big supermarket,i would waste a lot of money on clothes toys or else that i don't usually need on that moment. In lidl i can get every thing that we need for the week. Also we cook food on a 7 days menu basis,so will do a shoping list and buy exactly what we need for each day.

  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

Can't answer this one because we shop at Lidl always 🤣🤣🤣

Petitcanard · 11/08/2017 09:33

I shop at Asda because it's close and also cheaper than the local Tesco.

I love Lidl and try to visit as often as I can but the nearest store is just too far away for it to be convenient on a weekly basis. If there was one in my local town I would use it since I find it cheaper and I like the range of products it sells. The food is good and I love the cleaning supplies (W5).

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?
Aldi because it has recently opened not much further away than Morrison's and is much cheaper.
  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?
I do not shop at Ludlow.

I don't shop at Lidl because there is not one locally or I would.
dannydog1 · 11/08/2017 12:02

I do my weekly shop at Waitrose, mainly as it is local and I love my free coffee!
I would shop at Lidl if I had a local one, as my daughter does and is impressed with the quality of products.

mrz · 11/08/2017 12:05

"1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?

Usually Sainsbury's because it's convenient and I can get nearly everything I want there

  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

Have tried because of advertising

Have tried but left almost empty handed on each occasion and what I did buy was disappointing.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?
I go to Tesco purely because it's closest to us so easiest to get to.

I don't to weekly shop at Lidl but go occasionally because it's cheap.

We don't go weekly purely because Tesco is closest. We're not fussy where we shop.

  1. Thinking about your main weekly shop, where do you go? And why do you go there in particular?
Tend to go to Tesco as it's nearby, has everything we need (usually) and you dont have to wait ages at the checkout.
  1. If you go to Lidl for your main weekly shop, what are your main reasons for going there? Are any of the following a reason: price / range / brands / shopping experience?

We do top ups at our local Lidl. This is because, for certain items, the price and quality is excellent (cheese, flowers, snacks, cereals, yogurts, wine). We only go at non peak hours as the checkouts queues can take a while to get through.

  1. If you don’t go to Lidl, for your main weekly shop, please tell us why? Is it because your nearest one is too far away? Is it because the range of food isn’t diverse enough? Are there items that you can’t get in Lidl that you can get elsewhere?

Mainly because we cant get key items in Lidl (decent pet food, decent range of vegetarian food, food for DS) or it does stock the item, but it's not as good quality (sliced brown bread, chiller items, bleach, squash).
