So the kids are in bed. That means that the grand Movie Date Night In is ON. We want to know how such romantic nights go in your home.

How do you decide which movies to watch with your OH and who gets the final say? Are there any films you’re looking forward to seeing this summer?

What you do to make these evenings special? Do you perhaps have a special movie dinner or snack you love to make? Are there homemade cocktails or mocktails or just a glass of something cold? And if you have any memorable Date Night In moments you want to share, we'd love to hear about them.

Here’s what Sky Cinema has to say: “With Sky Cinema, it’s easy to find something to watch this summer. We've got the ten biggest blockbusters of 2016 available on demand, as well as new premieres every day. From Bridget Jones’ Baby to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them”

All who share their movie date night tips in a post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Our date nights usually consist of ordering a massive takeout, either pizza or chinese, munching on doritos and dip afterwards and watching a film that neither of us have seen. We have very similar tastes so there's never been an issue with wanting to watch a film the other doesn't. And obviously we save some energy for 'desert' later!

Sierra259 · 24/07/2017 16:55

We usually have a list of films we'd both quite like to watch, so just compromise on one of those. Glass of wine for me, beer for DH and a packet of peanut M&M's Grin

Cailin7 · 24/07/2017 17:50

we do not have movie date nights. Sorry Sky not what you want to hear but we stopped our Sky movie subscription a few years ago now as we were not watching any. Prefer box sets, dramas or a bit of comedy at the moment.

You can't go wrong with a rom-com on a date night. Dim the lights and light some candles to add a bit of romantic atmosphere

flamingtoaster · 24/07/2017 20:12

Our movie nights are always of feel good movies or ones with an intriguing story line - either a new one or one of our favourites. Sometimes we have a glass of wine but mostly we just cuddle up beside each other on the sofa.

emilybc · 24/07/2017 20:19

Set up sheets all around the TV - then you feel like you're in your own cinema!

honeyandginger48 · 24/07/2017 21:18

Take away curry, wine, chocolate and the latest film on TV. Bliss! Only problem is both staying awake until the end!

hanarees · 24/07/2017 21:31

Make sure you make a decision about what you are going to watch earlier in the day to avoid wasting time and arguments!

And turn off mobiles and other devices to stop any distractions!

sealight123 · 24/07/2017 21:56

Right....first get those cocktails made and some fancy snacks...I'm thinking olives, meats, etc etc (A big meal will just make us fall asleep halfway through the film)
Have the film already decided halfway through the day so we don't spend all night deciding the film.
No horror, no kids films...comedy, action, thriller or just plain bad
We love to have terrible movie nights as they are more fun....
Finish it off with a 2 player game on the Xbox to keep us on our toes :)

Movie date nights are few an far between due to having toddlers and teenagers plus DH works 4 on 4 off 12 hour shifts two days followed by 2 nights.
We normally pick a film together we have pretty similar tastes then download it on sky cinema.
We then have to spend the day wearing the toddlers out so they'll go to bed without a fuss so that we can shower and change into pjs for comfort.
Snacks we tend to try and go for grown up snacks that the children dont like so we dont get to have often like nice cheeses and crackers with grape, pickles and italian sausages.
Failing that a sack of chocolate and a dustbin of sweet popcorn or yogurt coated popcorn.
Plenty off coffee or fruit juice to drink too.
Then we settle down to watch the film him laid on one side of the sofa me at the other watching/sleeping through the film.

del2929 · 25/07/2017 00:56

well it has to include ice cream and endless supply of fizzy drinks.

rhinosuze · 25/07/2017 07:20

We find it easy to choose on sky as you can watch the trailers which is brilliant. My OH and I pick together, get the little one in bed and settle on the sofa for a cuddle - perfect night in

emmav6 · 25/07/2017 09:05

i'm not really into girlie films so OH happy to settle down with a takeaway and the latest horror or action film :)

angiehoggett · 25/07/2017 09:20

It's great just spending time together and I love movie nights. If there's something we've both been wanting to watch we'll plan a date night, kids at the parents house, pizza, cocktails and snuggling on the sofa!

Moogdroog · 25/07/2017 13:53

My tip is to plan in advance - we've had many an evening with the intention of watching a movie, and spent the entire time scrolling through Netflix/Amazon/NowTV et al, before deciding that its now too late and chucking a First Dates on!

DurhamDurham · 25/07/2017 16:50

A tasty sharing platter with cheese, olives, meats.

Selection of savoury and sweet nibbles; chocolate, sweets, crisps, nuts.

White Zinfandel for me, craft beer for husband.

Both mobile phones upstairs so we won't be tempted to check social media or answer text/whatsapp messages.

Choose the film in advance, you don't want to spend first hour trying to agree on a film and falling out in the process Smile

malisa · 25/07/2017 17:03

We usually trying watch a new film which had been never seen by us before. So, great atmosphere is achieved by drawing the curtains, cuddling to each other and sipping wine.

FoodstuffFinds · 25/07/2017 20:15

Firstly choose a film you both want to watch. Then make it special by banishing phones to another room, and buying some yummy nibbles eg tortillas and dip. Then snuggle up on the sofa with a warm blanket. Perfect night in.

AlakazamAlakazoom · 25/07/2017 22:11

Our best tip is phones switched off or in another room as easily distractible. Also plan in advance otherwise by the time the DCs are in bed & we've faffed around with tidying & admin it's too late to start a film - so we need to be focussed. And of course have a bottle of wine chilling to accompany the film!

mummymummums · 25/07/2017 22:15

We have tortilla chips and dips, and chocolate like minstrels so it feels like cinema.
We always agree on films together.
I like another person's tip of ditching phones though - good idea!

sbruin1122 · 25/07/2017 22:53

lots of popcorn, blankets, close the curtains. turn the room into a cinema.

Rigbyroo · 26/07/2017 10:15

We usually binge watch a box set but when it's movie night we always have snacks!

hannahbjm · 26/07/2017 10:49

Me and my partner take it in turns to choose the film as we both have very different tastes and I like being surprised by films I wouldn't normally pick. We usually make homemade ice cream shakes and have crisps and dip to share.

We always have a no phone and tablet policy, dim the lights and enjoy just some us time

ChasedByBees · 26/07/2017 12:47

We usually have something we wished we'd seen at the cinema so we try and see these.

We have popcorn and nachos and keep the lights low. As an added bonus over the cinema, we also have cups of tea. 😂

frances93 · 26/07/2017 13:10

Pick a film in advance so you don't waste time trying to decide, stock up on both your favourite nibbles (popcorn, sweets, crisps etc) and order a take away. Close the curtains snuggle up and enjoy the film and each other!
