So the kids are in bed. That means that the grand Movie Date Night In is ON. We want to know how such romantic nights go in your home.

How do you decide which movies to watch with your OH and who gets the final say? Are there any films you’re looking forward to seeing this summer?

What you do to make these evenings special? Do you perhaps have a special movie dinner or snack you love to make? Are there homemade cocktails or mocktails or just a glass of something cold? And if you have any memorable Date Night In moments you want to share, we'd love to hear about them.

Here’s what Sky Cinema has to say: “With Sky Cinema, it’s easy to find something to watch this summer. We've got the ten biggest blockbusters of 2016 available on demand, as well as new premieres every day. From Bridget Jones’ Baby to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them”

All who share their movie date night tips in a post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

When it's date night I like to watch something funny to make us both laugh.

pfcpompeysarah · 22/07/2017 21:43

I'm single so my son and I have movie nights, its essential the weather is rubbish outside (adds to the cosy feel), we have lots of snacks in bowls like popcorn, nachos, nuts and crisps and of course comfy blankets and throws to snuggle and get comfy under.. and the lights have to be dimmed cinema-style!

omgitslani · 22/07/2017 21:48

We start off by watching a family movie with the little ones, munching on some popcorn and having some laughs. Then once the little ones are sleeping, me and the other half pick a movie we will both like, turn down the lights and snuggle up on the sofa with a glass of wine.

gaptoothuk · 22/07/2017 21:59

Eat light snacks like popcorn, don't eat anything too heavy and watch a film that isn't too long or you'll find yourself getting bored and cranky halfway through.

gamerwidow · 22/07/2017 22:25

I usually choose the film and I go by rottentomatoes.com recommendations to decide what to watch. We end up watching a wide cross section which can be a bit hit and miss but I don't mind trying something new.

PickAChew · 22/07/2017 22:48

My only tip is make the most of it while they're in bed early enough to have time to watch a film without one of you flaking out on the sofa. I've only just hoofed my teen up to bed!

caz121 · 22/07/2017 22:54

We love nachos salsa and grated cheese warmed in the oven for 10 mins a few drinks curled up on the sofa xx

Jengle · 22/07/2017 23:01

We get a take out, bowls of popcorn and settle down for a movie- we tend to discuss which movie we'd like to watch and decide on one together.

The evening starts out romantic, with us snuggle together and kids in bed, but as the kids smell the take out (and then come downstairs for 'water') and then see the popcorn they normally end up joining us for the film! It's so difficult now that they are older to plan a romantic night in.

We will keep trying tho...at some point they'll have to move out!

FireflyGirl · 22/07/2017 23:56

We usually decide on a film beforehand - otherwise, that can be 15-20 minutes just agreeing that.

Then we'll usually grab a takeaway and some nibbles, snuggle up and pretend we're footloose and fancy free...

hibbertheather · 22/07/2017 23:59

We leave phones off, and make crispie cakes or flapjacks. Plus plenty of teddies and blankets!

sweetdreamsaremadeofcheese · 23/07/2017 03:41

Me and my partner sometimes can't decide on a film so we both pick a film each that we like and then watch them both so then we are both happy!! But we can always agree on food!!! Popcorn chocolate doritos and dip!

Byrdie · 23/07/2017 05:04

Movie night is a rare treat as getting all to bed in time takes some effort and a lot of luck. Having husband home in time takes some effort and luck too!! However we do manage a few each month or so and it's the first suggestion if we have an evening together on our own! Glass of wine or sometimes we have a cocktail!! I know - it's pretty much a party if we've made it as far as sitting down for a movie! (Always husbands choice by the way - which is only because I usually can't name a film I want to see. As long as it doesn't feature disney princesses singing, I'm happy!)

Flanderspigeonmurderer · 23/07/2017 07:56

We normally take it in turns to choose the film. We like lots of candles, a glass of wine/gin and tonic and popcorn. We really want to watch Moonlight but we have a small baby so movie nights have been put on hold for a while as I need to go to bed early!
One of the best movie nights we had was our first new year as a married couple. I had agreed to work New Year's Eve and New Year's Day as we needed the money so we couldn't do anything too wild. We got a lovely takeaway curry and opened some champagne we had been given as a wedding gift. It was simple but one of the loveliest nights we've had at home.

EmilyK83 · 23/07/2017 08:13

For us, it's about making sure we find a film we both want to watch, to start with...which can be a challenge! We make sure all the chores are done beforehand so there's nothing hanging over us that we need to do later in the evening, and we make sure we have plenty of drinks and snacks on the table in front of us...our current favourite is home popped popcorn with butter and sugar :)

mave · 23/07/2017 09:05

Candles on, prosecco chilled and nibbles galore! Find a good film when the kids are in bed and off we go!!

mollymoo818 · 23/07/2017 10:06

We have to have popcorn and a couple of bottles of cold beer. I don't normally even drink beer but it is something that is a must for date nights. Oh and also no phones. That is the biggest rule on movie dates neither of us can check messages or social media whilst we are watching the film.

towser44 · 23/07/2017 10:08

Making sure I get to pick the film ha ha! :-)

daniel1996 · 23/07/2017 12:21

We invested in Netflix a couple of months ago, it is the best thing, we will choose a category (which sometimes depends on the kind of day we have had with the DC's) I comedy for a stressful day, a horror for a inside rainy day and action packed film for days when the DC's are shattered after an action packed busy day. I normally will make a pizza, (I won an electric pizza oven a couple of months ago and it is the best thing!) and buy a large bar of chocolate for the movie, along with a jug of my home made sangria (which we loved when we used to go abroad). We treasure our date nights.

stefalfie11 · 23/07/2017 12:34

Lots of different bowls of snacks, gin and tonics, pj's and a blanket if its cold!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 23/07/2017 14:02

In RL we're serious grown ups. On movie night we are puerile teenagers. We are particularly fond of trashy stuff like Pitch Perfect, Bridesmaids and old girls' school classics like Clueless and Mean Girls but will also do gross out movies too. Dh is pretty much a teenage sorority girl trapped in a middle aged man's body Grin

Drink of choice is Hendrick's gin with elderflower and lemonade or a Mojito with lots of ice.

Snack is kettle chips.

We don't really do romance. It's more belly laughs.

Quod · 23/07/2017 14:41

A movie night follows a lovely homemade curry. Pick a movie which has intrigue and a good plot, sit back armed with crocs and wine.

Teabay · 23/07/2017 15:07

A good sofa cinema is always comfy and snuggly. I bring down all the cushions and throws and blankets and make a den to snuggle down in, with my family.

milsybub · 23/07/2017 15:07

always a horror or a thriller - the crappier the better!

Theres nothing like laughing together over some terrible CGIs!

atlasgirl · 23/07/2017 15:44

We usually take it in turns to choose the films in our house which means lot's of action for him (but usually something good to look at for me) and some light-hearted comedy from me which usually appeals to both of us. The food is always bbq chicken wings followed bu popcorn and ice cream (why choose?!) and a bottle of prosecco because bubbles always makes it feel special.

cheekychicken24 · 23/07/2017 15:53

Make it as much like the cinema as possible - that means phones off, lights down, a shared bowl of popcorn, and most importantly, we sit next to each other ON THE SAME SOFA!!!! Shock horror! We're normally on opposite sides of the room!!
