So the kids are in bed. That means that the grand Movie Date Night In is ON. We want to know how such romantic nights go in your home.

How do you decide which movies to watch with your OH and who gets the final say? Are there any films you’re looking forward to seeing this summer?

What you do to make these evenings special? Do you perhaps have a special movie dinner or snack you love to make? Are there homemade cocktails or mocktails or just a glass of something cold? And if you have any memorable Date Night In moments you want to share, we'd love to hear about them.

Here’s what Sky Cinema has to say: “With Sky Cinema, it’s easy to find something to watch this summer. We've got the ten biggest blockbusters of 2016 available on demand, as well as new premieres every day. From Bridget Jones’ Baby to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them”

All who share their movie date night tips in a post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

Agree on the film and find it before you sit down to relax. Many a night we have spent more time trying to agree on a film and then fell asleep half way through it.

It's rare for us to get a Movie Night In together as DS1 (14) often wants to muscle in on the action! When we do it can involve some degree of negotiation as we both like totally different types of films. The last film we watched together was 'John Wick', which was a surprise hit with both of us - we're looking forward to watching the next one together soon.

In terms of the menu, we'll more than likely get a takeaway so that neither of us has to cook and we'll pop open a bottle of prosecco too.
It's a great chance to catch up with each other and unwind.

We take it in turns to choose the move. The main rule is mobile phones are turned OFF!

Emmap12 · 23/07/2017 17:09

In our house movie night means no phones and a good comedy. We often watch reruns of Gavin and Stacey or Friends, or catch up on Celebrity Juice when there are no little ears listening in! Oh and wine has to feature 🍷😀

If it's a movie night at home, we make sure none of us have any tech to hand - phones, iPads etc, as the temptation is still to be checking Facebook or Instagram, or texting friends. We also draw the curtains and turn off the lights, Putin the surround sound, and we make sure we have plenty of snacks, like popcorn, nachos or pick & mix sweets, with a bottle of wine for the grown ups and something fizzy as a treat for the children! Why not have the true movie experience in your living room?!

Turn all distractions off

Minnibix · 23/07/2017 18:28

We like to have Friday nights as film night, love to settle down with a hot and spicy pizza and a nice bottle of wine, a little bit of chill out time sets us up for the mad weekend to come. (weekends are always mad at our house)

Child with a long term illness, hard to find a sitter that can deal with the extra processes involved so we are pros at this Grin

Empire magazine online for latest releases. date nights planned a month in advance to fit in with work shifts. Decide film in advance down to a few based on potential moods - harsh, romantic etc. Meal plan so it feels special, food that doesnt require knife and fork so good meats and cheeses/breads - all your favourite stuff like an Everyman Cinema. Craft beers and ciders. Phones switched off, a MUST !!!!

Zebee · 23/07/2017 20:38

I am usually to tired to stay awake for a whole film but usually we have lots of films we are waiting to watch, if DH has t already watched them while I am asleep.

hbakfam · 23/07/2017 21:27

Turn your phones off, dim the lights and choose a thriller with a romantic ending!

gemima27 · 23/07/2017 22:30

getting comfy on the settee and cuddling up in a blanket with a good bar of chocolate - cant beat it!

ruthr79 · 24/07/2017 00:18

we occasionally have a comedy film which we enjoy but prefer horrors and thrillers

cwalliss82 · 24/07/2017 05:35

We have Sky Movies so we just choose something that is on. Maybe a Premier and, like this weekend, 23 year old Speed. We will always get a small snack and we get the duvet on the sofa and snuggle down in our pyjamas.

kateandme · 24/07/2017 06:00

certain movies we can watch again and again.the fugitive.star wars.bridget jones.etc
its not usually a movie night.more see something on sky press pause and get our tea and toast. then if its on a channel we have upstairs when the break comes we say" right quick lets watch the rest in bed!"
there are a few movies we wait to download and have a proper night in front of the big tv with.but not usually a big hara with snack.more what we have in the cupboard.

devito92 · 24/07/2017 09:09

look on box office for a film take it in turns and make a night of it. Some drins to share a bottle of prosecco always gets her bubly

kamaxtra · 24/07/2017 09:09

Canapes always go down well with us! Oat cakes, smoked salmon and dill sauce, or beetroot crackers with soft cheese - a little naughty treat for the occasional evening in. Add two G&Ts, snuggle up under the blanket and get Netflix on - perfection!

Crumble67 · 24/07/2017 09:35

We are all movie fans in our house and going to the cinema is a rare treat, as for 5 of us it gets expensive, so we have Sky Cinema to catch up on all the films that we have missed out on. A blockbuster film is our favourite especially a good thriller, spy, action drama one. So all phones, devices are switched off, curtains closed and snacks prepared, homemade popcorn, chocolate (no noisy crisps!) and a drink or two, and then get snuggled up on the sofa with the surround sound on

Plenty of snacks within easy reach!

liamell · 24/07/2017 12:02

We love these nights in...we get the children off to bed and make a homemade chinese (healthier and we love the film Grease but not so much the chinese Grease :D )
Curtains closed, picnic blankets and candles on make things much more romantic...and then I let my OH choose the film....after working 60 hour weeks im lucky if he can stay awake!

julieef · 24/07/2017 12:31

First pick a good movie you both want to enjoy, some good wine, and snacks, and lastly lock the door

UpOnDown · 24/07/2017 13:41

We pick one of my choice, and one of his, taking turns. Popcorn and nachos are our favourite snacks.

Ethan260908 · 24/07/2017 13:47

an abundant supply of cheesy puffs, peanuts, no phones and I couldn't care what I watch, so long as the company, food and humour is good

HELENSCRESCENT · 24/07/2017 14:29

We have movie nights every Saturday with the two eldest children, we bring the duvets and pillows down and make a big bed in the floor and have popcorn and sweets. We are working through movies we watched when we were younger such as honey I shrunk the kids and big. Next Is flight of the navigator Grin

magentastardust · 24/07/2017 16:04

We normally pick comedy films or films based on a true story for our movie nights as a compromise for the girly rom com ones I would like to watch or the action ones DH would probably choose!

Wine and snacks are a must and we also don't have our phones etc on us whilst watching so we just enjoy the film and company without distraction.

It is so much easier (and cheaper) with children to have movie nights in than plan a night out at the cinema !
