So the kids are in bed. That means that the grand Movie Date Night In is ON. We want to know how such romantic nights go in your home.

How do you decide which movies to watch with your OH and who gets the final say? Are there any films you’re looking forward to seeing this summer?

What you do to make these evenings special? Do you perhaps have a special movie dinner or snack you love to make? Are there homemade cocktails or mocktails or just a glass of something cold? And if you have any memorable Date Night In moments you want to share, we'd love to hear about them.

Here’s what Sky Cinema has to say: “With Sky Cinema, it’s easy to find something to watch this summer. We've got the ten biggest blockbusters of 2016 available on demand, as well as new premieres every day. From Bridget Jones’ Baby to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them”

All who share their movie date night tips in a post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher!

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I am rubbish at watching films really so it has to be something light hearted and funny. I'm looking forward to seeing despicable me 3. We usually cook a meal first, open a bottle of wine and have some treats while we watch. Under a blanket. Sorted!

JulesJules · 27/07/2017 06:41

Wine, cheese and biscuits and a film we both agree on - I don't like anything too harrowing or scary , DH doesn't like most romcoms. We generally go for a thriller/action type thing, or comedy like Shaun of the Dead. Doesn't matter if we've seen it before, the last thing we watched was a Bourne film.

1969angep · 27/07/2017 12:08

We are rubbish at this as tend to sit on the sofa with our devices when watching TV, For a date night we're more likely to cook something special. I don't have the patience with long movies so we'd probably choose a light and easy romcom/comedy (last time we chose Paddington lol)

Loopyjoes · 27/07/2017 12:20

Pyjamas on, curtains closed! Pizza, prosecco and a great action or scary movie. There is so much selection on Sky!!!

Elliepurpleflower · 27/07/2017 12:25

Snuggled in bed with a bag of chocolate is what we like to do :) dh usually chooses the film as I have a tendency to fall asleep!

BadlyWrittenPoem · 27/07/2017 14:00

We tend to watch DVDs we already have and come to an agreement. We sometimes get takeaway so that we don't have to do the cooking.

Popcorn and a snuggle under a blanket Smile

31weeksgone · 28/07/2017 02:23

We make smores, the marshmallow company have great kits of a gel burner, crackers, chocolate, marshmallows and skewers so it really is like having a little campfire inside the living room and you can get cosy and toast your marshmallows on the "campfire" Grin

My DP is in the Navy, so between the various DVDs and downloaded films on board ship, he's seen huge amounts of things I haven't!

I like easy watching escapism or crime film. He likes violent action films and science fiction. However, we can compromise and often end up with gangster, comedy or random British films!

Snacks don't tend to be planned, but there's usually a few bottles of beer or cider made available for nights like this.

farhanac · 28/07/2017 12:45

Huge bowl of popcorn and some good chocs

lottietiger · 28/07/2017 12:55

Bubbly wine like prosecco or cava with chocolates Thorntons if we can afford it! Then an action film suits us both not a romantic one unfortunately!

Enigma222 · 28/07/2017 14:58

Once the kids are in bed.
My partner and I select 2 movies each from Sky movies, we watch the trailers and go for what we both think looks good and worth watching.
If we don't like anything we select premium movie of the day and go with that instead.

So my husband is a real film buff, absolutely loves the cinema and before we had our little girls would go all the time!!! So much so while I was in hospital after having an emergency section with our first as soon as visiting hours finished at 9pm he ran off only for me to later find out he had a cinema showing to get too! We now have an 18month old and another on the way and I can honesty say I have not gone to the cinema since I had my first! I love a good film as much as anyone but my husband really misses going to the cinema, so we like to recreate that experience as best we can. My husband keeps a list on his phone of all the films he wants to see and waits for them to come out, as soon as they do we buy the DVD or rent it through sky and save it for a Saturday night. He makes a homemade curry with all the trimmings and makes sure we have proper microwave popcorn in the cupboard ready for afterwards and set ourselves up in the front room once putting the small one to bed. Blankets lots of pillows, lights dimmed and treats! To be honest I prefer it! I can sit in pj's, I can stop it and go for a wee whenever I like and don't even have to leave my living room! My husband mainly does the choosing I am pretty happy to watch most things but I have the odd films which are a must! They are the best nights of the week!

larkin29 · 28/07/2017 19:41

Me and my partner can never agree on a film so we both pick two each write the names down on separate pieces of paper and place them in a bowl then whatever film is picked out we watch, it saves a lot of arguments

HowsAnnie25 · 28/07/2017 20:07

I pick! He's happy with watching any film really, I have quite a limited attention span so if I am committing to watching any film, he's pleased.
We get our little snack table out - olives with cheese, breadsticks and hummus, fizz and whatever craft beer he fancies!
There's nothing I'm really looking forward to watching at the moment - my favourite recent film is Moana!

HoneyDragon · 28/07/2017 22:32

We don't pay a fortune to sky waiting for the family to bugger off to watch movies together.

It s a bit different with older kids as often they want to watch the same things as you and it's nice to hang out with them of an evening.

Treaclespongeandcustard · 28/07/2017 23:38

Homemade pizza, nice bottle of wine and microwave popcorn. We usually like the same kinds of films so it's quite an easy pick for us

KarenCBC · 29/07/2017 01:15

My DH cannot make decisions so I usually chose two films and he chooses from them. Also booze! There must be booze!!

grannybiker · 29/07/2017 10:12

Has to be a film we're both interested in with plenty of nibbles within easy reach - oh, and no kids calling down!

pixelwife · 29/07/2017 13:37

A great date night with a movie for us involves lots of snacks like nachos and dips, chocolate and popcorn. We have the lights off to watch a movie to give us a full cinema experience from the comfort of our own sofa!

lollylaus · 29/07/2017 14:57

Wine, chips and dips and a good film! Nothing better. We usually go on recommendation for films!

feejee · 29/07/2017 20:35

Generally my OH chooses the film, something neither of us has watched. Our 3 year old gets to go to bed bang on time, we crack open a bottle of wine and turn the electronics off

frankiestein · 29/07/2017 20:59

Ah Movie Night, we occasionally get to the cinema, but not as often as I'd like. Which is why we subscribe to the movie channels.
We're both a bit geeky, love comic book films, action, horror etc. Not big on the rom coms.

But the best bit is the pizza. Doesn't matter if it's a takeaway, a frozen, or a "the 6 year old has been watching junior bake off again" homemade.
Has to be pizza. And there has to be something sweet to follow it up with. (Popcorn is my top rated)

So yeah. Film, pizza, popcorn, dimmed lights and the other half.

Le sigh

freefan · 29/07/2017 21:23

Lots of treats and juice and films that appeal to everyone.Doors locked and phones off
