We all have those moments: you had to work late, drinks with friends went on longer than expected, you’ve been stuck in traffic for hours, and when you get home you realise that you haven’t eaten. These are the points where we just reach for whatever’s left in the cupboard. Thoughts of nutritional value, appearance, even taste, go out the window and all you can think about is eating. Fast.

Mumsnet has discussed a lot of strange food combinations over the years; that’s why Deliveroo has come here to ask about the weirdest ‘emergency dinners’ you’ve ever had to resort to – those last minute grab-anything-out-of-the-fridge-and-throw-it-on-a-plate meals.

Here's what they have to say: 'We know what it’s like when you’re up against it. You haven’t had chance to rustle something up for yourself let alone get anything sorted for the kids. On those days, there’s no need to reach for the mystery jar lurking at the back of the cupboard when you can order something healthy and delicious from Deliveroo. We’re all about bringing you great food, from great restaurants, quickly. If you’ve got the app you can even order on your way home and meet your Deliveroo rider at your door. So the next time you’re in a sticky food situation, don’t rummage around in the fridge, get your favourite restaurant delivered to keep the whole family happy.'

Maybe you’ve been known to reach for the baked beans and eat them cold from the tin, or plain pasta with cheese? Perhaps you’ve gone even further and come up with some really questionable combinations! Whatever it is, we’ve all been there, so don’t be shy – post on the thread with your emergency food failures.

Every Mumsnetter who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw, where one lucky winner will be sent a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

3 minute spaghetti with egg stirred in after draining, chunks of pate or feta mixed through.

The other day it was mini potato waffles and 2 fried egg.

No healthy delicious Deliveroo options here though, our options are Indian or Indian and it isnt a particularly nice one.

Elizasmum02 · 20/06/2017 10:16

beans on toast with marmite, its actually quite nice

magolin · 20/06/2017 10:27

Peanut butter jazzing up a pot noodle. It's more or less satay, right?

kamaxtra · 20/06/2017 10:29

My go to is always a can of tuna, squeeze of mayo and some pasta. Not the healthiest but it does taste good!

NauticalDisaster · 20/06/2017 10:30

my husband (now ex) was away on business travel, I was heavily pregnant, and my toddler had been in the hospital day unit all day. We got home, I put my son to bed and then realised I had no food but fresh fruit and cereal (no shopping as I had been at the hospital with my son).

That night I had Weetabix with formula milk and sliced banana.

Pasta, cottage cheese and black olives. My end of the month meal when a student!

Bread with pesto spread on it - for when I cba to cook lunch.

Tinned sweetcorn, butter, mayo, grated cheese chilli flakes > microwave, eat with a spoon and never regret a second!

julieef · 20/06/2017 10:54

Toast dipped in Hot chocolate and a cup of beef oxo with bread cut up and put into in

When I left school I worked in a small office, and had my lunch bymyself. I put the tomato soup in a pan but when I turned the heat on it didn't warm up, due to the fact the switch on the wall was off. I had a cold lunch

lorka · 20/06/2017 10:58

My quick and easy meal is a tin of tuna mixed with cream cheese, a dash of mustard and pasta.

Rosehips · 20/06/2017 11:11

I once had to gouge a tin of ravioli open with a pair of scissors and carefully eat them out of the jagged tin with my fingers

FawnDrench · 20/06/2017 11:49

Weetabix topped with Marmite, and Rice Krispie sandwiches - yum.

iut044 · 20/06/2017 12:23

Pasta with onions

feefeegabor · 20/06/2017 13:35

You can't beat honey and banana on brown toast - really yummy and very filling.

Marg2k8 · 20/06/2017 13:44

banana sandwiches when there is no other sandwich filling in the fridge.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 20/06/2017 13:44

I made toad in the hole for me and DS the other night (pre heat wave!) We both love it and had been looking forward to it all day. As I was only cooking for the two of us, I halved the recipe intended for four people. Except I forget to halve the amount of liquid...so instead of nice, crispy, puffy batter, we ended up with something the consistency of barely cooked scrambled eggs around our sausages!
Unfortunately, Deliveroo don't deliver to us so I had to scrape the failed batter off the sausages and serve them anyway...

We're in a "cupboards are bare" situation due to various reasons. So my meals are getting creative!
Last night the children had plain pasta with cheese and cucumber. My DH and me had mushrooms with chorizo and feta, and lettuce. I've yet to brave the kitchen for ideas today, but it is likely to be butter bean based

emmav6 · 20/06/2017 14:21

wish i had know about the this morning after been let down by tesco again 10 minutes before my order was to be delivered they completely cancelled it!!! Leaving 3 grumpy hot children without tea i will be making them leftover 'make your own' wraps with all the last bits of salad and cheese or my youngest son's fav cheesy beany pasta :)

twinklenicci · 20/06/2017 14:33

rice and bisto gravy ....it was minging but better than plain rice

ohfourfoxache · 20/06/2017 15:29

Rolls with tomato ketchup as I had run out of margarine and butter Blush

liz1970 · 20/06/2017 15:37

Has o be noodles with bread and butter, lovely :)

thesockgap · 20/06/2017 16:10

Cold beans from the tin are actually ace, particularly when you're really hungry! I often have a "standing at the fridge shovelling stuff in" tea when I'm starving, can be anything from a spoonful of cottage cheese to some cold custard, by the time I've finished I don't need a proper tea!

NotCitrus · 20/06/2017 16:16

My secret talent is making tasty meals from whatever is available. MrNC will eat anything if you call it a stir-fry, and wrinkly cucumber, mushy tomatoes, tin of sweetcorn etc work better than you'd think fried.

Gazelda · 20/06/2017 16:25

Malt loaf and potato wedges.

user1496053440 · 20/06/2017 16:49

Microwave packet rice mixed with tinned tuna!

WhosTakingDeHorseToFrance · 20/06/2017 17:45

It's the defrosted freezer wonders that have been my biggest food fails, think taking out a bag of frozen breadcrumbs rather than the turkey mince I thought it wasHmm
My standard there's nothing in the cupboard dinner is pasta olive oil and garlic, yummy
