Over the past few wintry months you'd be forgiven for feeling like the icy starts and shorter days were never going to end. However, now that the days are drawing out and it’s light into the evenings, it’s great to be able to start spending more time outdoors, getting some fresh air. Arla Big Milk would like to hear about your plans to spend more time outside and ensure your children get the fresh air they need and some much-needed Vitamin D, now that spring is here.

Here’s what Arla Big Milk have to say: “We know it's important your little ones get the nutrients they need to fuel their amazing growth and development. Arla Big Milk is fresh cow's milk enriched with Vitamin D, A and Iron so you can be sure they are getting what they need when consumed as part of a balanced diet.”

Maybe you’re looking forward to getting the barbecue out without there being a downpour. Or you might be planning longer family walks with your dog or perhaps you’re looking forward to spending time in the park so your toddler can use up their excess energy? If you expect resistance from the kids, what might be your cunning plans be to persuade them to join you outdoors? Share your plans for being out in the fresh air with Arla Big Milk below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

Thanks, and good luck!

Hopefully lots of al fresco dining, from long picnics in the park to sunny BBQs with the whole family! :D

I've started to walk on the school run (much to my DC's dismay!), which is a good mile walk each way up and down very steep hills. I've already started to notice the difference in my DCs though - their skin looks better and they generally have an aura of good health around them. It's also lovely to just have that quality time to talk to my daughters about the things in our local area and anything that is going on with them.

I never have to persuade my children to be outdoors - they absolutely love it - it's usually them trying to persuade me when it's raining or cold!

When the weather is nice and hot, we go to the beach every day however this is a lot of effort with 3 children under 5!

If I did have to persuade them, I would tell them I will get them a treat!!!!

scooter for my son and bikes for my daughter and our local park two streets away where we'll go for tea afterwards in the cafe. An easter egg hunt today too which they are looking forward too.

kittykomp · 02/04/2017 10:27

just going to the local park

AR2012 · 02/04/2017 10:59

Plan some fun games together to encourage them to get active.

suzyq50 · 02/04/2017 11:19

We have new bikes & plan to use them every weekend on a cycle path.

iut044 · 02/04/2017 12:44

Going for walks at the seaside on nice sunny days.

cookiedough84 · 02/04/2017 12:46

I plan to use some persuasion by arranging treasure hunts, wildlife trails and just making it sound like an adventure...it really helps! You can buy books showing different types of wildlife, plants, bugs etc really cheaply and if you feel like it, pick up some prizes at pound stores. It helps get them motivated and can also be educational too.

2 hours on the beach this morning, wellies and waterproof trousers were needed, but BOY it was fun!!! The kids had buckets and spades too!

Marg2k8 · 02/04/2017 15:04

Geocaching is good fun if you haven't tried it, give it a go.

cluckyhen · 02/04/2017 15:36

We like to take them up to the Chase for walks in the woods - usually turning them into treasure hunts so that we can get everyone out in the air

Rachdayan · 02/04/2017 16:01

Relaxing in the park with a picnic and attending local community events that are held outdoors.

feefeegabor · 02/04/2017 16:10

We love wood treasure hunts where I write out a list of things to find (a white stone, a feather, etc.) and the kids have to find them. It keeps them busy for ages, out in nature and enjoying themselves.

cwalliss82 · 02/04/2017 16:37

My DCs need no encouragement to go outside. They are both feral and would happily live outside. They get cabin-fever on a rainy day or in the winter when it is dark.

sarah861421 · 02/04/2017 17:28

I have 2 children and always believed in the value of 121 time. so I regularly take one child for a long walk, and they get the chance to talk uninterrupted for an hour. I have continued this into their teens and 20's

defineme · 02/04/2017 19:26

A promise of an ice cream has always had my 3 out the door enthusiastically. I am looking forward to going to The Beacon Hill near us in Leicestershire, amazing views, fab playground, woodland dens and even Highland cattle!

vcoxee · 02/04/2017 19:37

We tend to organise picnics with the whole family in different local places so the kids can play with their cousins too!

Midnight0 · 02/04/2017 19:38

My little one doesnt need any encouragement to go outside. The moment you mention it to her, she has found her shoes. She generally loves exploring, looking at flowers and going to the playground as often as she can. And ice cream of course :)

Theimpossiblegirl · 02/04/2017 20:34

It has been so nice to have extra light in the evenings . We've already been going to the park after tea or for evening walks with the dog , making most of the lighter evenings.

Maclairey · 02/04/2017 20:39

My boys love being outside, for the third year in a row we have an annual pass to our local zoo and we go there all year round. But as the weather starts to improve we alternate this with trips to the seaside. The boys love going for walks by the sea and love standing and throwing stones into the sea for hours at a time. We try and go somewhere that has a nice long path that can be cycled on and they take their bikes and scooters and we have a picnic too. Failing that we go to local parks which they also love. Being out in the fresh air is good for the soul and often clears my head of cobwebs so I know its great for them to.

Ikea1234 · 02/04/2017 20:52

We get out and about, whatever the weather; perhaps just walking down the local lakes, a ramble in a local beauty spot, splashing in puddles at the park, a trip to a National Trust property, a bike ride, geocaching, a day out at the beach....the opportunities are endless and don't need to cost a bean!

Pesto37 · 02/04/2017 20:53

Walks to the beach and the forest, picnics in the back garden, trips to the zoo and out on the bikes. And a clamber over the Giants Causeway.

pfcpompeysarah · 02/04/2017 22:04

My son is a bit of an xbox freak and so he definitely needs to get out the house otherwise he would live in front of it if he could. Luckily for us we live near a beach so in the summer we head there for a leisurely walk, visit to a pub for a cold drink and a bag of crisps or meal, or we have a picnic on the common opposite.

Funkyferret · 02/04/2017 22:53

I think we're lucky in that we love camping! I have friends that just recoil in horror at the thought but for us it's great. Running round in the woods, finding lots of interesting bugs, flowers, mushrooms and beasties. Cooking and eating in a totally different way, watching the night skies. It really is the best.
