Over the past few wintry months you'd be forgiven for feeling like the icy starts and shorter days were never going to end. However, now that the days are drawing out and it’s light into the evenings, it’s great to be able to start spending more time outdoors, getting some fresh air. Arla Big Milk would like to hear about your plans to spend more time outside and ensure your children get the fresh air they need and some much-needed Vitamin D, now that spring is here.

Here’s what Arla Big Milk have to say: “We know it's important your little ones get the nutrients they need to fuel their amazing growth and development. Arla Big Milk is fresh cow's milk enriched with Vitamin D, A and Iron so you can be sure they are getting what they need when consumed as part of a balanced diet.”

Maybe you’re looking forward to getting the barbecue out without there being a downpour. Or you might be planning longer family walks with your dog or perhaps you’re looking forward to spending time in the park so your toddler can use up their excess energy? If you expect resistance from the kids, what might be your cunning plans be to persuade them to join you outdoors? Share your plans for being out in the fresh air with Arla Big Milk below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

Thanks, and good luck!

Were planning to do some geocaching - the kids love 'treasure hunting' and it's a nice reason to go for a walk, maybe have a picnic and make a day of it

PenguinRoar · 31/03/2017 23:40

We're out whatever the weather anyway. Keep wet weather gear by the door or in the car boot so no muddy feet round the house.

Love walking after dinner, so make a habit of trying to get out now it's lighter. It's great to calm and wear out small people with fresh air b4 bedtime.

georgedawes · 01/04/2017 12:38

We go geocaching, it's absolutely brilliant for getting my daughter out in the fresh air, and it's great fun too. Also, if you go on a trail, because there are geocaches to find every so often, it has built in breaks for the kids and 'treasure' to look forward to and keep them going. It's great fun and I wish I'd discovered it years ago!

I'm looking forward to better weather so we can go for walks and visit National Trust properties.

TracyKNixon · 01/04/2017 13:15

No matter what the weather is like, I always take my kids outdoors - we have a dog who needs walking so I use her as an excuse if it is cold or wet! Returning home to warmed slippers on the radiators and hot chocolate with marshmallows is always a treat we look forward to, especially during the Winter!

vonniebab2 · 01/04/2017 13:27

There is nothing better than getting all the family together for a brisk walk over the hills with the dogs finishing off with a hot drink in the local cafe

happysouls · 01/04/2017 13:34

We're outdoors all year round in all weathers! In some ways it is nicer through the winter as you seem to have the whole world to yourself! Wrap up warm, have plenty of supplies and get out there and have an adventure! It is always referred to as an adventure and never just going for a walk, got to keep it interesting! Rocks to climb, streams to poke around in, sticks to poke things, mud!

Going to the park after school and doing the school run on foot. That equates to 2 hours plus outside every day for the DCs.

Local NT properties are a given in spring and summer months for our family too.

I am lucky to have a large front garden with a paved drive, with gates at the end. The drive is for the ride on cars (and has a 'petrol station' at the bottom). The hours that are spend going round and round on cars and tractors is lovely. We also have a trampoline (13 feet wide - the bigger the better I thought) which has a netted area. This is played on even in the rain, and has learned taking turns when one wants to jump 'highest'. I love the red cheeks and time in the playhouse for toast and milk for snack time.

a picnic in the park with an easter egg hunt

fletcher992 · 01/04/2017 13:56

We have a dog so the kids are always outside on walks since tiny. We go to the woods where they can run up and down, we collect leaves for fun projects and see who can find the biggest stick plus they love the park and the swings.
If it's raining we've got wellies and waterproof onesies which they know means they can splash in mud and puddles!

debbiew21 · 01/04/2017 14:07

I always brought bikes/scooters on almost every trip. They always seemed thrilled to go out on a scooter but reluctant to walk. I even used to take them on scooters to the supermarket and then fold all three scooters up and put them in a trolley while we went round inside (often with at least one child squeezed in as well). The fact that scooters are so portable these days was a life saver for me. The big, cumbersome things kids had when I was small would never have been as useful.

gd2011 · 01/04/2017 14:08

More long walks with the dog.

compy99 · 01/04/2017 14:09

we are out as much as possible, we have acres of meadows right on our doorstep which is a favourite place to have nature trails and picnics.

glenka · 01/04/2017 14:13

We love spending time down the beach and we can't wait to go whenever we can.

glennamy · 01/04/2017 14:17

When our first born didn't want to come with us walking the dog over the farmers fields we told her that there was treasure and money buried there... She would have her spade and we use to bury or chuck some coins on the floor for her to find! :)

janeyf1 · 01/04/2017 14:25

We look forward too walks in the countryside and to see sheep or horses. We try a few team games such as rounders

Hygellig · 01/04/2017 14:26

We often do days out at the weekends. Try to persuade children to wear thermal clothing in winter so they can stay out longer. Unfortunately they aren't as keen on walking as their parents but they like bike rides, sand and playgrounds.

LeeR1985 · 01/04/2017 14:43

I want to be able to play in the garden with my little one but its a bit of a state right now, so we'll be heading to the park once a week to enjoy playing there, maybe take a picnic on a really warm day :)

footdust · 01/04/2017 14:51

We are looking forward to going to the park after school and the sunshine so that we can have picnics in the park.

littleme96 · 01/04/2017 14:58

Geocaching! We market it to the kids as a treasure hunt, get out into the countryside with a free app on my phone and go in search of tupperware hidden in woods and fields! They enjoy it as it is more of an adventure than just a walk and we get to take the dog too, who can never believe his luck at getting such a long walk somewhere new!

ThemisA · 01/04/2017 15:19

We love spring walks with the dog. I will often pack up a picnic and a flask of hot water for warm drinks. I decide where we go and get my 8 year old to navigate how to get there (with help).

Elizasmum02 · 01/04/2017 15:21

we all love being in the outdoors wether its gardening or taking the dogs for a walk. we try to visit somewhere new to walk each weekend and if we cant ill get the kids to help out int he garden or on our allotment

maryandbuzz1 · 01/04/2017 15:27

I never have a problem with getting my son outside. He just loves being in the open air. We love collecting things and turning them into models when we get home. When he was really young making mud pies was a great pastime. Hunting for things in specific colours and making a trail are amongst some of his favourite activities.

Ganne1 · 01/04/2017 15:36

We always tried to fire the children's imagination with visits to ancient monuments ... but we did visit some theme parks too!
