Over the past few wintry months you'd be forgiven for feeling like the icy starts and shorter days were never going to end. However, now that the days are drawing out and it’s light into the evenings, it’s great to be able to start spending more time outdoors, getting some fresh air. Arla Big Milk would like to hear about your plans to spend more time outside and ensure your children get the fresh air they need and some much-needed Vitamin D, now that spring is here.

Here’s what Arla Big Milk have to say: “We know it's important your little ones get the nutrients they need to fuel their amazing growth and development. Arla Big Milk is fresh cow's milk enriched with Vitamin D, A and Iron so you can be sure they are getting what they need when consumed as part of a balanced diet.”

Maybe you’re looking forward to getting the barbecue out without there being a downpour. Or you might be planning longer family walks with your dog or perhaps you’re looking forward to spending time in the park so your toddler can use up their excess energy? If you expect resistance from the kids, what might be your cunning plans be to persuade them to join you outdoors? Share your plans for being out in the fresh air with Arla Big Milk below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

Thanks, and good luck!

One plan we have is to get the garden tidied up after winter so that we can let the DC loose in there after getting back from the school run and at weekends. We've got a sandpit, little tykes slide set, balls and various ride on toys for them, and when the weather gets warmer, we can get the paddling pool out.

Further afield, we've got a few parks within easy travelling distance which the kids love - walks in the woods, feeding ducks, splashpads, nature trails, and of course the playgrounds. The beach is a bit further away, but that's great for letting the kids run around.

This weekend we're planning a trip to an outdoor museum that's got a steam engine event on, so there'll be lots of walking around outside with stops to admire steam trains / rollers / traction engines / vintage cars.

It's very easy to get out in the fresh air especially in the sunny spring weather. We live close to a park so my toddler daughter is always keen to grab a ball and have a kick about. We also go to the beach and pack a light picnic with us to make a nice day out.

The camping gear is out of the shed and ready to jump into action as soon as the sun arrives

I have no problem getting my kiddies outside. I only have to mention the words ball, park, run around. We are so lucky to be nearly wonderful open spaces. Love the summer when you can spend the day at the park having a picnic, playing games and enjoying the warm weather.

I'm really hoping for some good weather so we can enjoy some family walks in Grizedale Foreast and surrounding areas.
Thankfully the children don't need too much persuasion to get outdoors as they loving following the forest trails and finishing off with a treat in the cafe.

sadiewoohoo · 08/04/2017 08:23

We'll be having lots of long healthy walks with our little dog Egbert something all the family enjoys

We are looking forward to daytrips to the coast - and there's a market at the weekends - so wander round the market, walk on the beach, paddling, fish and chips and home on the metro.

BBQs and eating outside in the garden, picnic teas.

mclarkie · 08/04/2017 10:33

A barbecue always works a treat at getting everyone into the garden or down the local beach.

CocoKev · 08/04/2017 15:05

We have a Kelly Kettle which is a great way of getting the kids excited about going for a walk. We take hot chocolate or cup a soups out with us, and have a walk then spark up the kettle halfway around and boil the water. The kids (and adults) really love it. If you're not sure what I'm talking about here's a picture of ours in full flow...

I am blessed in the sense that my son absolutely loves the outdoors. We live in Surrey so there are some lovely big parks for us to stroll around. As well as places like Hampton Court which is fabulous. My son loves going for walks around lakes and exploring nature. Perfect for getting some much needed vitamin D! :)

Proper clothes for the unpredictable weather, so warm coats, waterproofs & wellies year round.

Try to walk places nearby to instill the outdoor principle

ipswichwitch · 08/04/2017 18:50

To be honest, we're hard pressed getting them back in again! I'm of the opinion that our two boys are a bit like dogs - they need walking twice a day or they start to chew on the furniture!

We have a season pass for the local farm park, and wetlands centre. We quite often pop to the farm when we have a spare hour or so. With the pass it's a cheap morning out (obviously after the initial outlay), even cheaper if we take a picnic, so we're not worrying about it being that last weekend before payday and having no money for days out. Best thing we ever got!

SuzCG · 08/04/2017 19:18

I insist that we get out at least once during the day - having a dog helps, because she has to be walked regardless. If they've been inside for a while I send them out to play in the garden (and we've bought plenty of outside toys to encourage them in this regard. Just letting them do simple things like watering a few flowers in the beds helps though.

melmoo · 08/04/2017 20:58

When it comes to getting ours to do things, I've always found persuading to be a pointless/loosing battle. Simply tell them what's happening is my approach, Don't offer them any part of the descision. Within minutes of starting whatever it is, they invariably love it are are glad they went - even though they would never have chosen to.

cannotmakemymindup · 08/04/2017 23:17

Got lots of different things planned as DD definitely loves being outdoors and will quickly slip her wellies on just so she can go in the garden.
Planting new crops of fruit and vegetables in pots. Got seeds to sprout. Lots of mud for her to enjoy spading in. (Strawberries, leek, onions, garlic, chives, carrots and lettuce so far. Tomato and basil to plant seeds)
Farm visits as she loves animals, horses being her favourite.
The beach as she knows we've been waiting for it to be sunnier and warm to visit.
General park visits whether small or country park with interactive water fun!
Plus general giant bubble chasing in the garden because to a toddler bubbles are the best!!!
Just realised I may be exhausted after all this.

AutumnElla · 09/04/2017 08:01

My kids, 3 and 4, love being outdoors no matter what. Over the next couple of weeks we're planning picnics, going to a farm on an Easter egg hunt, going for walks round the local ponds and rivers and visiting a few parks. Everyday I'm not at work I aim to get out the house, otherwise they're climbing the walls by dinner time.

Cailin7 · 09/04/2017 14:04

Some gardening and lots of walks on the beach with our dog

43percentburnt · 09/04/2017 17:00

Balance bikes to the park. English heritage membership, so plenty of places to visit with a picnic. Holidays based around being outdoors - camping!

alison991 · 09/04/2017 17:12

WE take a picnic and explore the National Trust properties near us

glmcall123 · 09/04/2017 17:22

We're hoping to have a picnic on the beach and some lovely woodland walks

PhilTB54 · 09/04/2017 17:59

We got them on Bikes asap and now they're on them whenever we go out.

katieskatie82 · 09/04/2017 19:06

my little boy loves the outdoors. We love visiting castles and old ruins x

Pimmpom · 09/04/2017 19:25

When the weather is nice just the promise of water and they are out in the garden. We get so much use out of the paddling pool - happy days!

emmamed123 · 09/04/2017 21:09

We like going for family bike rides. When we leave the house with a picnic for our lunch, we never know where will end up. We just go along one of the many cycle paths in the Nottingham/Derbyshire countryside.

baconbap · 09/04/2017 21:49

a picnic always does the trick
