Hello, hello, hello… It is I, Count Olaf – guardian of the Baudelaire orphans Violet, Klaus and Sunny, and magnificent and respected theatre performer.

Violet is the eldest; she is followed by Klaus, and then Sunny, who is an infant. I have provided these lucky orphans with a rat-infested room - including a complementary pile of rocks at no cost to them, and shampoo that encourages tears - and I believe, therefore, that I am quite justified in asking them to do a range of minor chores for me in return.

My list includes:

  • Keep the kitchen gleamingly clean
  • Keep the library well dusted
  • Polish the floors in the ballroom
  • Hang my undergarments in the laundry room after they've washed them
  • Weed, mow, and preen the gardens
  • Chop wood in the back yard

Alas, these wealthy brats have been utterly spoilt! They've never done a chore in their lives, and therefore believe that I am BU to ask them to carry out such tasks - which is why, my adoring MNer fans, I wish to ask you: which chores you wish you could ask your DCs to do?

I feel your anguish having to spend more time with your DCs since it’s half term, so what chores do you wish you could ask your DCs to do during half term? Would you like your moody teenager to be able to whip up a Michelin star meal? Or your toddler to not only put away their toys, but also hoover the lounge? Whether it’s something small like wanting your DCs to do the washing up or make their own beds, or something more elaborate like wishing they would Marie Kondo your wardrobe or build you a garden retreat, tell me, Count Olaf - and I will reward one of you with a £300 voucher.

Yours most handsomely,

Count Olaf

I wish my dd could cook us breakfast lunch and dinner! I am an awful cook and do not enjoy it. We are currently learning together. We are also learning to bake together and our attempts at decorating cupcakes look pretty much identical. She is 2.

I also wish she'd sort out the Happyland toys according to their correct themes when putting them away after playing. Grin I am the only person in this house that knows granny belongs on the bus and the boy with the ice cream belongs with the fun fair Angry haha.

Really though I'm just glad she helps me at all Smile

I would desperately love for anyone to take on ironing. I'm terrible at it. I just tumble dry everything to death.

I would particularly love the children to put away the lego sorted by colour and perhaps focus on reading Kondo in an "early reader" format. "Chip folds the T-shirt". You get the idea...

Cookies77 · 22/02/2017 19:16

Wash my car!

YerTiz · 22/02/2017 19:19

I wish they'd take their bowls into the kitchen/wipe up spills/tidy/put dirty clothes in the wash basket WITHOUT being prompted by me.

Andbabymakesthree · 22/02/2017 22:23

Love if they could hoover the stairs!

angiehoggett · 22/02/2017 22:25

make me breakfast in bed would be amazing but I'd settle for them clearing their toys away!

Hopezibah · 22/02/2017 23:42

I would love for the kids to weed the driveway! If they all worked together i reckon they could get it done - but i've been nagging for about a year!

pinkspideruk · 22/02/2017 23:50

I wish H and D would make their beds and pick up their toys and clothes which they leave every where - especially lego and other small hard objects which they leave on the path to the toilet! Speaking of toilet I wish D would lift the seat before peeing or if he forgets to at least wipe up the pee rather than leaving it for me to accidentally sit in - I cant be the only one who knows the horror of that cold wet feeling on the back of the legs can I?

Finally I wish they would empty their pockets, especially when they put things like half eaten apples, interesting leaves, snails an slugs in them

justamoment · 23/02/2017 00:04

Maybe just continually going around wiping up indiscriminate 'grubby marks' from all surfaces - vertical, horizontal and everything in between. And surely cleaning up after themselves after using the loo - the seat, the bowl, the floor... please?!

TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 23/02/2017 02:34

My eldest is only 4 but I'd like him to be able to help with folding and sorting his clothes, which is one of my most hated household chores. I very kindly Kondoed his drawers last year and the little sod messed them up within 24hrs - he thought it was great fun having a good rummage around choosing what he wanted to wear. Next time I shall get him to help then maybe he'll be more careful...

kennythekangaroo · 23/02/2017 22:54

I'd be happy if DD could clear enough space on her desk to be able to actually use it rather than sitting on the floor and leaning on the stool to do her homework.

Kat17black · 23/02/2017 23:21

Hello,i would like my dearest teenager to wash and iron then hang up/put away the endless amounts of washing([mostly his anyway),also making MY breakfast each morning would be a nice start to my day along with cups of tea/coffee made on request.

danigrace · 24/02/2017 00:59

Clean the oven & get all the pans and insides of cupboards sparkling!

caffeineanddryshampoo · 24/02/2017 11:32

Oh Count Olaf you fiend!

I just wish my 7 year old would keep his room tidy - think lego everywhere and pants that haven't made it into the laundry basket.

rachelmi · 25/02/2017 17:38

Clean the windows, clear out the garage and a spot of ironing!!

sofieellis · 27/02/2017 10:53

My son is pretty good at keeping his room clean and tidy and generally helping around the house. I'd like him to spend more time studying and less time playing computer games, as he has exams coming up soon!

becky004 · 27/02/2017 14:06

I would love for them to keep their rooms today, bring their own laundry down, oh and help me redecorate the whole house :-)

BL0SS0M · 28/02/2017 16:50

Just to keep their rooms tidy, which apparently is an impossible task!!!
