Hello, hello, hello… It is I, Count Olaf – guardian of the Baudelaire orphans Violet, Klaus and Sunny, and magnificent and respected theatre performer.

Violet is the eldest; she is followed by Klaus, and then Sunny, who is an infant. I have provided these lucky orphans with a rat-infested room - including a complementary pile of rocks at no cost to them, and shampoo that encourages tears - and I believe, therefore, that I am quite justified in asking them to do a range of minor chores for me in return.

My list includes:

  • Keep the kitchen gleamingly clean
  • Keep the library well dusted
  • Polish the floors in the ballroom
  • Hang my undergarments in the laundry room after they've washed them
  • Weed, mow, and preen the gardens
  • Chop wood in the back yard

Alas, these wealthy brats have been utterly spoilt! They've never done a chore in their lives, and therefore believe that I am BU to ask them to carry out such tasks - which is why, my adoring MNer fans, I wish to ask you: which chores you wish you could ask your DCs to do?

I feel your anguish having to spend more time with your DCs since it’s half term, so what chores do you wish you could ask your DCs to do during half term? Would you like your moody teenager to be able to whip up a Michelin star meal? Or your toddler to not only put away their toys, but also hoover the lounge? Whether it’s something small like wanting your DCs to do the washing up or make their own beds, or something more elaborate like wishing they would Marie Kondo your wardrobe or build you a garden retreat, tell me, Count Olaf - and I will reward one of you with a £300 voucher.

Yours most handsomely,

Count Olaf

Hoovering, mopping, ironing. Sadly as they are 3 and a baby I think this won't happen! She does like to mop the floor with a baby wipe from time to time.

VilootShesCute · 10/02/2017 19:34

Pick up dog shit from the front lawn.

BeeMyBaby · 10/02/2017 19:45

I don't want much, just for them to tidy their room, arrrrrrgh!

DailyMailSucks · 10/02/2017 20:20

Mine is 21 months old. He already loads the washing machine every morning and wipes his tray after food, i really think he should be bringing me a cup of tea too when he brings me my slippers but he just looks at me funny when I ask him. Insolent boy!

NeverTwerkNaked · 10/02/2017 21:12

I'd be quite happy if they just emptied their bowels, cleaned themselves up and flushed away the evidence without needing input from me (whether that is wiping/ pleading with them to try/ being invited in to admire the size)

SavannahLevine · 10/02/2017 21:35

I'd like mine to clean the bathroom....especially the toilet.

I have 2 boys, aged 9 and 6, and neither of them or my 40 year old husband appear to be able to aim properly, yet somehow I'm the sucker that gets to clean the toilet and the bathroom floor everyday!

Put clothes in wash bin

Turn off lights

Put dirty plates in sink

Toombumber · 10/02/2017 23:28

I would love the kids to take out the food waste to the compost bin and then wash the food waste tub afterwards but I know I'm dreaming. Also, how about just putting your shoes away on your shelf in the cloakroom?

My DD is 17 months, but she loves to help around the house! She likes to "sort" all daddy's things the best Grin

Sleavercole123 · 11/02/2017 06:58

The washing up as my hands get really sore in the winter from doing it

Ntinyn · 11/02/2017 07:16

Finish painting the house! Although Dd1 is 3 so would love the idea of painting the walls I think!

glenka · 11/02/2017 07:22

Tidy their rooms without having to be asked would be nice.

barbsbarbs · 11/02/2017 07:25

mmm, emptying the dishwasher and putting their ironed clothes into their own draws, instead of taking a piece of clothing off the pile and leaving the rest there.

SandyGEE12 · 11/02/2017 07:54

It would be great if she could clean her bedroom and do her laundry. She is only 4 but makes so much mess and gets through so many clothes. I have another in the way in June and I've no idea how I'm going to keep on top of it all!

I would like the older ones to repaint several rooms. Cook a range of meals to re-stock the freezer Carpets could do with a clean and I am considering training them to make my occasional G and T.

stimpy1 · 11/02/2017 08:16

I would love my DC to clear the loft, do the massive amount of Washing that accumulates in our house and bring me breakfast in bed everyday.... or is that step too far???!!!

jacqui5366 · 11/02/2017 08:25

Would like to come downstairs:-
with the laundry basket empty.
The fridge full of food.
The dog has been walked.
The kettle has just boiled.
The floors (including the dreaded stairs) have been hoovered.
................and my final wish....no pee on the toilet seat..........
then I would be a happy mummy.

xcxcsophiexcxc · 11/02/2017 08:40

I wish they could make dinner for me, wash the dishes and clean my car!! I'd be happy with spaghetti hoops on toast ...

happysouls · 11/02/2017 09:00

Well my son is now in his 20s and proving very much the handyman. So I'd like to ask him to remove the wallpaper hanging off the ceiling in my lounge and if the ceiling falls down with it (which is why I haven't dared touch it), then he'd be capable of having a go at replastering it! Seems to just be able to get stuck in to anything without any problem...doesn't always go to plan but he isn't bothered by having a go!

rosie154 · 11/02/2017 09:08

Just tidy your room!!

voyager50 · 11/02/2017 09:09

Cleaning up all the stains on the carpet from spilt drinks, ketchup etc - if they knew how difficult it was sometimes they might be more careful!

Bellaboo1234 · 11/02/2017 09:23

Defiantly Hoover the stairs!! Along with the pile of ironing that is waiting for me at the moment would be good!!! 😏😏

flozza42 · 11/02/2017 09:23

I would love my 16 year old daughter to do her own washing and ironing instead of wearing three different outfits each day and throwing the newly worn ones on her bedroom floor! She's used every excuse in the book not to do this chore saying she will ruin her clothes etc!

janeyf1 · 11/02/2017 09:30

I would like her to hang up the laundry once the washing machine has finished its cycle. It takes me ages to do, so would appreciate the help.
