Lidl know that some of us prefer spending Valentine’s Day at home to venturing out into packed restaurants with hearts everywhere during a freezing February. Lidl have everything in store for the perfect night in, offering all you need for a French-themed dinner to gifts and bottles of bubbly - and they would love to hear how would you spend your dream V-day at home.

What’s the perfect romantic meal for two? Do you prefer classic red roses or truffle chocolates? What’s your ideal tipple for the night? Do you open gifts while listening to romantic music or is a night on the sofa with a movie more your thing?

Whether you are spending Valentine's day with your significant other, having a ‘Galentines’ (girls only) day, or simply enjoying an evening for one, tell us how you’d spend your dream V-day at home. Everyone who posts below will be entered into a prize draw where 5 winners will each get £50 to spend in Lidl.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

We don't really do gifts or flowers but tend to (try!) and get the kids to bed early, open a bottle of bubbly, cook a nice meal together (probably steak, or some nice seafood) and then curl up in front of the fire.

A romantic meal like sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce followed by something like a chocolate torte, a nice cold Sav blanc followed by coffee and chocs on the sofa with a good film.

shroney · 29/01/2017 18:28

valentines day at home would be bliss with a homemade soup and crusty bread starter, skeak and salad and a box of chocolates for desert topped off with a latte coffee.

Cailin7 · 29/01/2017 18:48

nice quiet meal at home, something simple with a nice bottle of wine

Just having my husband home would be enough, i hate him working away.

hmariez · 29/01/2017 20:03

Just to feel worth something

mave · 29/01/2017 20:21

A yummy meal, prosecco, kids in bed, candles and music on!

Pmliu · 29/01/2017 20:26

The kids will be fast asleep upstairs. My hubby will cook my favourite meal, crispy duck with spring onion, cucumber with plum sauce & pancakes and we will drinking my favourite aloe Vera drink. We will then finish off with a delicious dessert of white chocolate & strawberry cheesecake with Haagen ice cream. After the meal my hubby will give me a nice foot massage then we will cuddle up with a good movie or tv show whilst snacking on popcorn, crisp & chocolate 😍❤️

Marks and Spencer's Dine in for Two Grin including scallops for starter, steak for main, something indulgent for dessert with chocs and Prosecco. Wine Cake Bear

bugzie92 · 29/01/2017 21:42

Yankee candles on the go, dim lights, and the partner cooking a lovely steak! followed by chocolate cake pudding and a decent romcom :D

sbruin1122 · 29/01/2017 22:41

We usually have a roast and lots of cake!

0ryx · 29/01/2017 23:37

I might find a fancy recipe to cook this year. The norm is to scoff on steak, dauphinoise taties and long stem brocc, with some tasty wine.
But ir might be more fun if we can actually make something together. Put a bit of effort in Wink

We try to do something indulgent and fancy that we wouldn't normally do in our everyday lives. We don't do gifts and cards but do try to take out the time to mark the day. After having the DCs, we've always celebrated the day at home.

Things we've done in the past are

  • the whole family had a special breakfast of heart shaped pancakes and scrambled eggs washed down with fancy coffee, even if it's a weekday. This involves getting up a bit early.
  • writing little love notes and putting in each other's lunch boxes to open at work during the day
  • leaving work early and then taking the time to cook a fancy meal for the whole family.
  • DCs have been getting little Valentine soft toys and chocolates each year
  • Once the DCs are asleep, we open some special wine and marzipan chocolates and watch a movie together.

It's a lovely feeling that the DCs are warm and snug in their beds and we don't have to be out in some overcrowded restaurant trying to make the V day happen (as we have in the past).

It's the same predictable routine for us every year and the Valentine day brings a bit of cheer to an otherwise dreary time of the year Smile

Nice food, good company, good film

strawberrisc · 30/01/2017 11:33

Scallops on rocket, rare steak with piped mash and steamed vegetables followed by creme brulee. I think the diet can hold off for one night!

southernsun · 30/01/2017 11:41

A nice romantic meal (steak, sweet potato fries, vegetables), banoffee pie for dessert, bottle of wine, little ones tucked up in bed, film on the sofa with a big bag of pick and mix.

badgermum · 30/01/2017 12:02

Instead of arranging a babysitter and having a meal out we have a romantic night in, I opt for an easy (part prepared) three course menu, I light candles, put on music and just make it a bit more special than the average dinner time, I also get some chocolates and a bottle of prosecco as a treat to enjoy, and after going to all the effort the least he can do is the washing up Wink

MrsOllyMurs · 30/01/2017 12:03

Mmmm, chocolates and Irish cream liqueur. A roaring fire. And an indulgent cheese board. Or smoked salmon and prosecco.

ProfAnnieT · 30/01/2017 12:49

Steak, the rarer the better. Wine, red to match the steak. Some sort of Gu pudding wouldn't go amiss either.
