Lidl know that some of us prefer spending Valentine’s Day at home to venturing out into packed restaurants with hearts everywhere during a freezing February. Lidl have everything in store for the perfect night in, offering all you need for a French-themed dinner to gifts and bottles of bubbly - and they would love to hear how would you spend your dream V-day at home.

What’s the perfect romantic meal for two? Do you prefer classic red roses or truffle chocolates? What’s your ideal tipple for the night? Do you open gifts while listening to romantic music or is a night on the sofa with a movie more your thing?

Whether you are spending Valentine's day with your significant other, having a ‘Galentines’ (girls only) day, or simply enjoying an evening for one, tell us how you’d spend your dream V-day at home. Everyone who posts below will be entered into a prize draw where 5 winners will each get £50 to spend in Lidl.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

We like to close all the doors, spread out a picnic blanket on the floor, put loads of lovely treats and snacks out, pour the champagne/prosecco/anything fizzy, and indulge ourselves. It's like having a picnic in the comfort of our own home. Usually followed by a mixtape (OK, a playlist on Spotify) of romantic music and a little bit of slow dancing! Doesn't have to be expensive to be romantic, but it is nice to make the effort occasionally.

We don't "do" Valentine's Day, we did the first year we got together and that was it!

If we did I would want the kids in bed at a decent time and then dinner that I haven't cooked which would be fish or pasta but steak for dh (I don't eat red meat) then something like cheesecake or apple pie for pudding. Oh and a good film which would be hard work because we can NEVER agree on a film Hmm

maryandbuzz1 · 24/01/2017 17:07

I would love to receive red roses and have a meal cooked by my husband.Having steak and chips followed by Eton Mess is my idea of heaven.

MWM · 24/01/2017 17:29

We love getting something nice from the dine in from M&S (sorry Lidl). We don't make a big fuss, just a daft card each and some chocolates to share.

ParadiseCity · 24/01/2017 17:37

Vagina day Grin

I thought this would be about the war.

Valentines day - fizzy wine and crisps please.

NotCitrus · 24/01/2017 17:50

Children actually stay in bed once put there.
Nice meal with minimal cooking - maybe scallops followed by a luxury pie and veg, then some wine and a dessert, watch something on TV, play a board game, snuggle up.

We got together just before Valentine's Day so it's a bit like an anniversary for us, but we never go out as even pre-kids we realised restaurants were unpleasantly crowded and a rip-off around the 14th. We do swap cards but don't fret much otherwise, as we nearly split up over Valentine's cards once (over 20 years ago!)

A day at home with no children. Scented candles lit, pjs on, wine in the fridge and plenty of nice food to graze on whilst watching films. Bliss.

herebehippos · 24/01/2017 18:24

A day without children. With books and a nice Indian takeaway for tea!

schnauzermama · 24/01/2017 18:45

An early finish from work.
No traffic.
Log fire lit.
Prosecco chilled ready.
Pyjamas on.
Movie.
Delicious food (easy to cook)
Chocolates
Shoulder massage
And an early night in clean sheets!
(I don't ask for much) Smile

VelvetThunder · 24/01/2017 18:45

We don't do gifts and cards here, but a nice steak meal with all the trimming followed by a nice chocolate dessert would go down a treat. We'll probably end up drinking coffee tbh, although we do have a nice bottle of rose to go with the meal.

Summerdays2014 · 24/01/2017 18:59

Take away, chocolate, box set, baby sleeping through!

foxessocks · 24/01/2017 19:17

A nice posh ready meal , a bottle of wine, kids in bed, something good on TV that we both like, a film or something funny , a candle lit. And chocolate for afters. Lots of chocolate.

MommaGee · 24/01/2017 19:32

A nice Valentines night for us would be pizza with the toddler (he's tube fed but makes an exception for pizza!) then off to bed and asleep. Prosecco and ice cream for dessert on the sofa watching a (my choice) movie (so no aliens or robots or apovalyse!!) then aforementioned toddler sleeping all the way through. Flowers from DH. Cards opened once DS is in bed

Welshmamma · 24/01/2017 19:47

We love to put the phones away and snuggle up on the couch and watch a film. Salmon or steak with spinach followed by a nice dessert. Lots of kisses and cuddles.... oh and for all five children to wait on us for a change! 😁

Anononoo · 24/01/2017 20:00

DC at a sleepover and DP and I with a good bottle of champagne, oysters, sushi and Creme brûlée.

OldBooks · 24/01/2017 20:06

DC in bed (early and without fuss, since this is a fantasy). A nice pre-prepared meal, probably a ready meal from a good supermarket or a slow cooker meal prepped earlier. Glass of wine. Chocolates. Beautiful music playing and cuddles on the sofa while we listen. Snuggling (and maybe more) into fresh sheets without any concern that DC or DCat will disturb us. 7 hours uninterrupted sleep.

Pillowaddict · 24/01/2017 20:36

Babysitters/early night for children, candles, fire lit, good film to watch and some canapés and fizz to start, main course of something delicious cooked by dh and a nice bottle of red with some brie to finish. Plus maybe some chocolate for the film...

LadyOfTheCanyon · 24/01/2017 20:46

I'm a florist so Valentine's Day is the biggest of our year. I'll have been working 15 hour days for the preceding 3 days to make sure everyone gets their flowers.
Consequently I never get to spend the day with my OH as I'm always so shattered!
In an alternate universe where I wasn't working, I think it would be simple champagne and nibbles on the sofa with some lovely music playing. Just catching up with my partner. Haven't done it in the 28 years I've been working!!

PeggyMitchell123 · 24/01/2017 20:47

A perfect valentines day at home for me is a good dinner, usually we have steak, a glass of wine and a film, something that is not bloody animated. Just some adult time together without our attention being taken up by our toddler.

kateandme · 24/01/2017 21:31

id say idealy this would be different.and all food/meals would have deal or special because to me v day is a meal that means something to the couple.so it could be the first time yo uwent out and had picnic.or cooking cheese on toast because that what you had on first date haha!so its making it special for all and the ability to do so.
but some good meals like coq au vin, steaks.nice chicken pie, fish and chips.bacon wrapped chiclen breast or pizza.
few nice candles.nice bunch of tulips or daffs.not particuly roses.
and a melt in the middle pud.treacle sponge.or a special fruit salad and mirangues.

mouse12 · 24/01/2017 22:10

A lovely quiet evening with a simple dinner, a bottle of nice wine and a film snuggled on the sofa. Ideally with the children remaining in bed asleep!

FeelingSmurfy · 24/01/2017 22:26

A meal that needs little more than turning an oven on, putting it then taking it out when it's finished, but feels that bit special Sad I know that's asking a lot!

Also a quick and easy meal for the kids so that nobody spends the night cooking, the kids can be ready for bed earlier and we can enjoy a nice meal and some time together

VioletRoar · 24/01/2017 23:00

Kids in bed on time.
Thai food, bubbly, dark chocolates, a film and sex. Can't bare bunches of flowers etc. We don't buy presents either.

confuugled1 · 25/01/2017 00:23

Have dc that are tweens. Such a long time ago that we last did anything for Valentines Day that it's completely fallen off my radar. So much so that I read the title of the post and thought WTF is V-Day? And then had to read the thread to find out GrinBlush

Not sure that it will actually make any difference - after school clubs, sports teams, band practice, music practice, homework, cooking supper, making sure the washing has been done and there's enough uniform and sports kit for the next day and so on - all still has to be done. It's a busy night so will probably try to find a nice ready meal and then discover that either the price has gone up as they're cashing in and/or they've sold out because they've done a special offer... Might have a nice steak meal the closest weekend to Valentines day if I remember but chances are that I won't.

If I'm feeling in a good mood I might buy the family some cheap but nice Valentine's chocolates that have been marked down a day or two after the 14th!

raspberryblush23 · 25/01/2017 00:51

Someone to take the kids, or just for them to be in bed early. A nice meal: chilli/curry/steaks and a nice bottle of Asti. Afterwards we would watch a DVD and eat chocolate and crisps. Smile.
