Lidl know that some of us prefer spending Valentine’s Day at home to venturing out into packed restaurants with hearts everywhere during a freezing February. Lidl have everything in store for the perfect night in, offering all you need for a French-themed dinner to gifts and bottles of bubbly - and they would love to hear how would you spend your dream V-day at home.

What’s the perfect romantic meal for two? Do you prefer classic red roses or truffle chocolates? What’s your ideal tipple for the night? Do you open gifts while listening to romantic music or is a night on the sofa with a movie more your thing?

Whether you are spending Valentine's day with your significant other, having a ‘Galentines’ (girls only) day, or simply enjoying an evening for one, tell us how you’d spend your dream V-day at home. Everyone who posts below will be entered into a prize draw where 5 winners will each get £50 to spend in Lidl.

Thanks and good luck,

Sitting in front of the wood burner (we don't have a wood burner 😀) with candles on the mantelpiece. Eating a delicious home cooked meal of vegan shepherds pie with brown lentils, sun dried tomatoes, sweet potato mash, broccoli and sautéed garlic baby spinach on the side (it's honestly delicious, try it) Followed by a hot chocolate pudding with chocolate sauce. All served with a nice glass of wine. No phones and music to chat by. Maybe a surprise present of a book I wanted and a cd for him that he really likes. Then a lie in the next day! (About as likely as waking up to find we now have a wood burner 😁)

For it to be a perfect Valentines Night in, I would arrange for dc to have a sleepover at Nanny's house to ensure no interruptions. Dh and I would then get a decent Thai takeaway, champagne and chocolates or ice-cream, then plonk ourselves down in front of a film. In an ideal world I would have the confidence (and appearance) of my early 20s and give dh goggle eyes in some sexy lingerie, then have a happy night of dtd together.

In reality we will spend the night trying to get ds to go to bed so we can get ready for his birthday the next day, this will no doubt be stressful. We will have the much replayed conversation about how I was in labour this time x years ago and really hoping to beat the clock so that I could call ds Valentine - gas and air to blame, that name wasn't on our list! We will laugh at this and cuddle. Feel happy about our lot in life.

Likely I will give dh a card in the morning, he will blush and then give me a card, flowers and chocolates in the evening, which he will have purchased on his lunch break.

My ideal valentines day treat would be for my husband to tidy up after himself and for me to go in to the bathroom and find a full loo roll and a clean towel. I think I am hoping for far too much though unfortunately!

KAKADU2001 · 28/01/2017 15:28

It would be a nice Pasta based meal and a nice glass of cold Prosecco followed by a long soapy soak with my gorgeous wife in our Jacuzzi. Followed by ??

compy99 · 28/01/2017 15:36

our Daughter's Birthday is on Valentines Day, so extra special family day for us. The ideal day would be Birthday celebrations in the afternoon for our Daughter and then a quiet meal together listening to our favourite music.

barbsbarbs · 28/01/2017 15:44

nice film, chocolates, cuddle on the sofa. nuff said

LeeR1985 · 28/01/2017 15:46

We plan on treating it like any other night, nice homemade meal, film on the tv and our feet up. We'll go out for a nice meal when its a bit quieter later in the week :)

sammylea80 · 28/01/2017 15:51

A dine in for £10 meal deal, a good film on the tv and cuddles on the sofa!

Ganne1 · 28/01/2017 15:58

As you say, at home. Perfect. Not paying an exorbitant price at some rubbishy restaurant. A bottle of wine for my husband, some elderflower cordial for me. And either a home-cooked meal from my husband, or a good take-away. Fabulous!

fazkin · 28/01/2017 15:58

Valentines day at home for me is a nice takeout and romantic movie to watch with hubby.

towser44 · 28/01/2017 16:10

Breakfast in bed and then a nice evening in with a nice meal, bottle of wine and the wood burner on :-)

ThemisA · 28/01/2017 16:10

Children tucked up in bed or at Grandma's. Low lighting, candles, fire, simple pasta meal, gripping film/series, or book and early night (to sleep!)

castleton · 28/01/2017 16:22

Spending the day together. Bacon butties for Breakfast made by me. Fillet Steak on the BBQ cooked by lovely Hubby. Snuggled up on the sofa togethe to watch ScFi films

GREATAUNT1 · 28/01/2017 16:25

A nice roast dinner, beef or lamb, not fussed, followed by cheese & biscuits, & washed down with poo, all from Lidl of course. Then relax in front of the TV with an action packed film. Just as I think I can't get any greedier, I mean things can't get any better I'd love to be presented with tickets to NZ to see my lovely family.

Helspopje · 28/01/2017 16:29

Lidl food would definitely be involved - possibly a lobster based starter, probably some of your lovely black packet steaks, some steamed tenderstem broccoli, definitely a great malbec and chocolate pots with raspberries to finish.
Yum!

876TaylorMade · 28/01/2017 16:30

My DH taking DD out...for the whole day!

While I lounge around at home in my PJs....doing nothing!

warjonson · 28/01/2017 16:35

Just chilling together with the kids asleep, simple easy food with some cheesy romcom

jools401 · 28/01/2017 16:37

Valentine's day at home has become a bit of a tradition for us. My hubby never usually cooks but its now the one night where he does absolutely everything. He picks a recipe, shops for the food, wine, flowers, makes cocktails and serves it all in style. I'll be looking forward to it again this year too.

gd2011 · 28/01/2017 16:40

Home cooked meal and a DVD.

mummy23xxx · 28/01/2017 16:55

All the talks of staying home, cooking a meal etc.

Not for me!! I prefer to get dolled up - go to a nice restaurant in Manchester and drink cocktails and dance the night away!!

I wish!!!

AnimalAddict · 28/01/2017 17:05

Simply a nice night in with a delicious meal, wine & a good film :)

libra101 · 28/01/2017 17:08

My perfect romantic meal would be spent with my husband. We would enjoy a starter of breaded mushrooms and garlic dip, followed by lush Chinese takeaway from our local restaurant. This would be accompanied by Lidl's Champagne Millesime, its crisp, dry taste refreshing and full of flavour.

Dessert would be a box of Belgian chocolates to nibble while watching a spooky horror movie.

debbiew21 · 28/01/2017 17:21

A quiet house (!), bottle of wine or champagne, maybe a lovely meal and nothing to get up early for so it would have to be a Friday or Saturday night.

AngelwingsPetlamb · 28/01/2017 17:25

Being treated like a princess! Love notes here and there dotted around the house for me to find and put a smile on my face. Flowers, any kind they don't need to be red roses. Bubble bath run for me with candles and then a lovely film to watch on the sofa together before an early night !

izbiz1988 · 28/01/2017 17:29

My dream scenario is coming home to a clean house, the children having a sleepover at their grandparents, with fresh flowers on the table and my favourite wine in the fridge. We would then cook a really nice meal or order a takeaway and spend the whole evening watching our favourite things on TV, chatting, eating and drinking :) Bliss!
