Lidl know that some of us prefer spending Valentine’s Day at home to venturing out into packed restaurants with hearts everywhere during a freezing February. Lidl have everything in store for the perfect night in, offering all you need for a French-themed dinner to gifts and bottles of bubbly - and they would love to hear how would you spend your dream V-day at home.

What’s the perfect romantic meal for two? Do you prefer classic red roses or truffle chocolates? What’s your ideal tipple for the night? Do you open gifts while listening to romantic music or is a night on the sofa with a movie more your thing?

Whether you are spending Valentine's day with your significant other, having a ‘Galentines’ (girls only) day, or simply enjoying an evening for one, tell us how you’d spend your dream V-day at home. Everyone who posts below will be entered into a prize draw where 5 winners will each get £50 to spend in Lidl.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

It should be pizza because that's what we ate on our first date and also because it isn't too much fuss on a weekday night after we've got DS settled in bed.

Gluten free meaty one for DH and a veggie one for me with a delicious bready base. Opposites attract!

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 25/01/2017 01:27

The children would go to bed early with no fuss and would stay asleep. We'd have a simple meal with little or no clearing up to be done afterwards then snuggle on the sofa in front of the fire and chat.

BathshebaDarkstone · 25/01/2017 06:35

Steak in Chianti for me. Shepherd Neame to drink.

FlukeSkyeRunner · 25/01/2017 07:18

I'll be cooking something a bit special, wine and chocs after and a good film to watch together.

InvisibleKittenAttack · 25/01/2017 10:53

Rare steak with blue cheese sauce, good red wine (not fizz with steak!), eaten once the DCs are in bed, and using the fancy china & wine glasses.

Spending Valentine day at home, witch husband and kids. We had dinner and sweet treet and watching some comedy movie:) Best time with family:)

PorridgeAgainAbney · 25/01/2017 11:16

My perfect Valentines Day would be for my husband and son to go out for the day so I could just be lazy and watch tv, eat food that only I love and have a doze. Obviously not at all romantic but it would make me happy so I'd be a much nicer person when they got home Grin

finova · 25/01/2017 12:31

A nice walk in the daytime, in the countryside.
Then maybe something like a cheese fondue, or maybe a Thai meal actually!
Fizzy wine to wash it down.
Watch a movie together.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 25/01/2017 13:05

Would have to be a night out (away from the 2 little ones!).
Nice restaurant, delicious food, bottle of wine, candlelight, soft background music...
Me & DH sat in a quiet corner so we could actually talk and enjoy quality time together.
We give each other a cards and the meal would be our gift.

Spottyladybird · 25/01/2017 14:12

Ideal night in:
Kids in bed
Baked Camembert with crusty bread
Yummy pizza
Chocolate gooey puddings or ice cream.

I'm dairy free at the moment as the baby is intolerant so it's all a dream!! Maybe next year.

BillyButtfuck · 25/01/2017 14:12

It's our first Valentine's Day as parents, after our twin boys were born last year.
I'd really just like a family day.
Last year I was so busy in and out of hospital that Valentine's Day really passed us by.
Not this year!!
In the evening I'd love to but the boys down before our dinner - it's amazing how novel a meal without having food thrown at you or smeared everywhere can be!
I'm saving up to buy and cook my DHs favourite meal - steak and dauphinois potatoes with honey toast carrots!

iwanttoridemybicycle · 25/01/2017 19:28

Steak, chips and green salad, chocolate pudding, red wine

funkypyjamas · 25/01/2017 19:54

A meal out would be nice because it would make a change not to be eating on the sofa Smile, but the day after Valentines Day so we don't have to sit next to 'that' couple who obviously hate each other but feel like they need to make the effort one day each year.

Disforduster · 25/01/2017 21:05

I'd like to have a bath, not cook, have a glass of wine and go to bed in clean sheets. To sleep. I have one year old twins, I'm too knackered for anything else!

MillieMarysMummy · 25/01/2017 21:26

Easily pleased - my dream meal is one my husband makes/heats up - and clears up! Plus a glass of Champagne and something chocolatey for pud...

NauticalDisaster · 25/01/2017 22:23

My ideal is spending it with my two sons and each of us having our favourite meal:

  • Mac cheese for DS2
  • Spag Bol for DS1
  • I would have mac and beef - so the sauce from DS1 added to mac cheese

A lovely big spinach and strawberry salad with toasted almonds and goat's cheese and a lemon poppyseed dressing. And some bruschetta too. Yum.

To drink, I would allow the boys to have summer berry squash (we never have it in our house) & I would have a cranberry cocktail.

Chocolate mousse or cheesecake for desserts.

This will all be homemade as a loving treat for all of us. I dread the dishes though!

SaladDressing · 25/01/2017 22:39

Very low key here. Bottle of fizz, big bowl of seafood pasta with nice bread, and candles on the table.

No TV, maybe some music, and a chance to chat.

We only ever went out for Valentine's Day once and realised quickly that staying at home (but making an effort) was very much nicer than sitting in a restaurant eating an overpriced set menu with lots of other couples staring into each others' eyes and pretending to be romantic!

Boobiebalfie · 25/01/2017 23:57

Kids in bed or at the Gps for the night.
Easy finger foods where there is no prep or washing up.crisps, dips olives, salmon type things and anything loaded with sugar for dessert as we both have a sweet tooth.
All things that are easy to eat on the sofa with a good film.
Bliss!!

voyager50 · 26/01/2017 09:23

I have never celebrated Valentine's Day - is is just a money-making commercial venture - sorry!

CopperPan · 26/01/2017 10:53

I prefer staying home on Valentines - the restaurants seem overpriced and are always overbooked. I like getting the M&S meal deal as it's good quality and means nobody has to put much effort into cooking - we can focus on each other. I like to relax on the sofa with a good film afterwards. DH and I do small gifts for each other but his birthday is in January so after that and Christmas we don't go overboard!

RueDeDay · 26/01/2017 14:08

Ideal V Day would be for a cleaner to magically appear, so that I'd come home to a clean and tidy house with nothing to do! Then a simple, but yummy dinner... Roasted Mediterranean veges with a fillet of salmon, or something like that. Followed by chocolates and a lazy evening watching something suitably non-challenging!!

Mrsmonkeymoo1 · 26/01/2017 17:52

Nice meal and great company. Peace and quiet for the night - where we could just spend time with each other. Talking to each other instead of at each other - bliss !!!!

Blizy · 26/01/2017 17:52

Ohhh, I would arrange for a sleepover at grannies for ds. Cook a delicious steak with pepper sauce, balsamic onions and new boiled potatoes, a yummy indulgent chocolate desert and a nice bottle of fiz. I'd have some candles flickering and cosy up on the sofa with a film then an early night.Wink

StickChildNumberTwo · 26/01/2017 19:21

Children in bed with no fuss, and a film with a good bottle of wine. Absolute perfection would involve an undisturbed night's sleep, but that seems like a dream.

Anj123 · 26/01/2017 19:44

I think it's better to have a meal in the house then a film on afterwards! No need to go out for it to be special.
