Lidl know that some of us prefer spending Valentine’s Day at home to venturing out into packed restaurants with hearts everywhere during a freezing February. Lidl have everything in store for the perfect night in, offering all you need for a French-themed dinner to gifts and bottles of bubbly - and they would love to hear how would you spend your dream V-day at home.

What’s the perfect romantic meal for two? Do you prefer classic red roses or truffle chocolates? What’s your ideal tipple for the night? Do you open gifts while listening to romantic music or is a night on the sofa with a movie more your thing?

Whether you are spending Valentine's day with your significant other, having a ‘Galentines’ (girls only) day, or simply enjoying an evening for one, tell us how you’d spend your dream V-day at home. Everyone who posts below will be entered into a prize draw where 5 winners will each get £50 to spend in Lidl.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Ideally staying at home and cooking something a bit different from our usual week day meals. Making time for a proper conversation, not about work or the children

flamingtoaster · 26/01/2017 20:07

A candlelight dinner of salmon with a white wine sauce, rice, mange tout and julienne carrots, with a nice bottle of wine. Followed by Swedish Glace with 85% dark chocolate grated on it. Followed by a feel good DVD.

We don't do Valentine's Day. No cards or gifts and certainly not going out to a resturaunt as it's far too busy and overpriced. Our attitude is that you should show each other you love one another throughout the year and not just in one day.

I will however happily snap up the reduced to clear valentines chocolate a couple of weeks later.

vic1981 · 26/01/2017 20:46

Steak, home cooked chips and wine, followed by something made of chocolate...

CombineBananaFister · 26/01/2017 21:01

Husband is a chef so him getting night off would be a good start and me not on shift either. A compliant, quick to bed son with no 50 million questions suddenly that HAVE to be answered before he will sleep Grin. Food would be something that requires no cooking - Charcuterie, cheeses, breads, panetonne, chutneys. Decent craft beer and cider. Dark chocolates/stroop waffles and coffee. Boxset to watch. Bliss!

A perfectly cooked steak dinner with a fruity/creamy kind of dessert (preferably all prepared by the fiancé) Once the mini man is in bed we can crack open the fizz a nice box of Swiss chocolate (Lindt please) whilst watching a cheesy romcom 😀

smithsurvey14 · 26/01/2017 21:35

We have been married for 25 years now and stopped giving cards and gifts once we got wed. Valentine's day goes unnoticed for us but I would like it if he helped with the pots maybe.

missSonic · 26/01/2017 22:24

We always have the best times when we're laughing, so I reckon it would be a Thai takeaway, drinking champgne, followed by watching 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' and then dancing to some old Wham! vinyl....

Candles

DH will bring me some flowers and a card. May be a small gift to say thank you for the last year's hard work that I put into our home according to him. Then its going to be him cooking me some lovely food as he is a very good cook too. It will have to be for our DCs too as we can't even imagine a complete Valentine's Day otherwise. One of them is a result of a Valentine's Day itself we think Grin. So we will probably spend the evening around kids. Once kids are in bed, we would have some snacks and something nice to drink on the sofa while we watch any mad movie together. We might even get to make another baby this Valentine's Day Grin. my new username would then be Valentine3 obviously

Teaspoon74 · 27/01/2017 08:54

Valentines is about together time - the boy and I eating nice food, sharing time, and reminding ourselves how lucky we are to have found each other ... even after over ten years together.

Some nice beef carpaccio and rocket parmesan salad followed by steak au poivre and dauphinois potatoes and a decadent dessert- all paired with a nice crisp Chablis, a decent Bordeaux and something sweet to end - maybe a Tokaji.

A bunch of white scented lilies for me and some cuff links for him is about it, gift wise. It's all about us-time Grin

TulipChewlip · 27/01/2017 09:20

We don't buy each other gifts usually, just a card. Most of our Valentine's Day will be at work; our evening will be spent at football training with our almost 12yr old daughter. However, when we're back I will send the husband to sort the kids bedtime and get a bath himself, I will be cooking two lamb shanks with some green beans and boiled potatoes. I will might even pour some glasses of wine for us. After we've seen I'll get a quick shower and we'll either get an early night ( Wink ) or more likely we'll watch a comedian on tv.
We just keep it simple. I do decorate the house with pink and red hearts though... and make the kids a special valentines breakfast. :)

TulipChewlip · 27/01/2017 09:24

after we've eaten. Obviously. I'm not planning just lookin at the food I've cooked Grin

Justtrying · 27/01/2017 10:13

Dh and I will exchange cards, if he is reminded.

It's also a day for me to remember my late Grandpa, it would have been his 100th birthday this Valentine's Day. He passed away whilst I was pregnant with Dd, aged 5, she will be on half term holiday so we will spend the day doing heart shaped crafts and baking.

Then I will cook a nice romantic meal for dh once Dd has gone to bed, candles, fizz, probably seared scallops to start followed by steak with dauphinois potatoes, Lidl potato gratins may be a sensible substitute, then dessert will be something chocolatey with some of the heart shaped treats baked with Dd.

wallers5 · 27/01/2017 10:13

My husband & I are both full time Farmers so could do with a good massage, get the kids to bed on time & have a meal cooked for us with a good bottle & no calls for help from a cow about to calve.

Doncald · 27/01/2017 15:45

I love spending Valentine's with my partner we don't go out we usually take turns cooking . Last year my partner made a yummy lamb chops and butter bean mash which he bought from Lidl and a yummy gooey chocolate pudding

Fivetoomany · 27/01/2017 19:22

Me & dh + Camembert, crusty bread and a nice bottle of red wine. Then if the little shits go to sleep, then up to the bedroom we go 😉😉

Kir Royale to start, then rare steak, LIDL 28 day matured is a favourite. Maris Piper potatoes for real skinny chips. Gorgeous red wine - we love the LIDL Wine Cellar, there is a great choice available - so it will be what I fancy at the time. We are not pud or chocolate lovers, but the continental cheese cheese selection in my local LIDL is fab - Camembert, Brie, Danish Blue served on a wooden bread board with a part baked baguette and some grapes. Then one of our many favourite films; the ones that we can both quote the lines from at exactly the same time. I can't wait. Actually, I don't have to. I am going to do it tomorrow

RupertsMum2 · 27/01/2017 22:10

I'm not one for too much fuss. We will probably have a bottle of wine and a nice dinner but we don't do cards/gifts.

PenguinRoar · 27/01/2017 23:55

Mezzo food or tapas and a bottle of of Rioja.
A child asleep (at his grandparents)
Music and a sofa!

Heaven!

PenguinRoar · 27/01/2017 23:57

Gah... that would be mezze

TiredAndRavenous · 28/01/2017 00:03

Hmmm I'd like to be wined and dined, my partner has only just recently mastered the art of beans on toast.

I'd like all our candles lit/lights off with nice music on in the background & watch the stars through the conservatory.

I'd really like him to cook the main meal & even if he messes up its the though that counts! I'd make a massive batch of brownies (so even if there's no main course who cares! BROWNIES!!!)

And wine........

showmeislands · 28/01/2017 07:50

A perfect Valentines evening would involve the house being (magically) clean and tidy, scented candles, both of us having made a bit of an effort to look nice, soft music and champagne chilling. Food wise... something easy but indulgent-feeling. Something like scallops, steak, chocolates, strawberries. M&S fine-in valentines deal would probably work. We'd exchange cards, he'd give me roses. We'd watch a film and/or chat and reminisce about special times we've shared together. The champagne would be flowing!

canihaveacoffeeplease · 28/01/2017 08:26

I LOVE cooking but as I'm currently 9 days overdue, this year I'd like lots of fizz as it's been a while, some very easy, decadent food (mostly charcuterie/antipasti and chocolatey pudding stuff probably) on the sofa with my baby in my arms, toddler in bed, husband beside me and a really good film. Simple, easy, decadent and relaxing! Oh a good night's sleep from overdue baby would be the cherry on the cake...
