The New Year brings about thoughts of new beginnings, and Arla Big Milk would love to know what your intentions are for a fresh start for your family, to help them grow big this January.

What are your plans and aims for the new year? Are you determined to be a better planner of healthier, wholesome meals, to make sure your DC gets enough of the good stuff? Perhaps you’d like your family to practice better sleep hygiene or spend more time together? Maybe you’re looking forward to watching your children grow big and reach milestones like weaning, taking their first steps or learning to read by themselves?

Whatever your aims, share the great ideas you have for a new and fresh start for your family in 2017 with Arla Big Milk below. All who post a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draw.

To stop biting my nails!

sbruin1122 · 09/01/2017 13:09

I read a great article about the benefits of milk, and we're going to be drinking a lot more of it this year!

Goawayquickly · 09/01/2017 13:10

Less wine for me, more sleep for us all, and a better diet all round. We ate far too much rubbish over Christmas so new year, new start!

farhanac · 09/01/2017 13:13

More family meal time

mamof3boys · 09/01/2017 13:14

We have decided to reduce the amount of screen time each week, and play board games or do jigsaws as a family instead. My middle boy got a chemistry set for Christmas and I'm looking forward to helping him with that.

bonners1 · 09/01/2017 13:26

humtum167 · 09/01/2017 13:32

I think definetly need to focus on my family's health this year.
Cut down on carbs increase intake of natural fats like ghee

We are committed to more exercise as a family. Every weekend, we will be going for a nice long walk at least once. We have so many places to choose from locally that we have no excuses! This weekend we are hoping for some snow and will be heading to a local hill in the Peak District for the first walk!

glennamy · 09/01/2017 13:53

We plan to walk more where possible as a family as we feel this little change will benefit the activity side of things. We are also having specific times when gadgets are switched off...

madge47 · 09/01/2017 14:01

cycling more as a family on a weekend off road on the safe cycle paths.

This year I'm determined to get a better control of my lupus. I've started by requesting a new consultant as I feel we had come to the end of the road treatment ideas wise with my old one. I have also embarked on a mega healthy eating plan and aim to leave the house every day for a little walk. Given that I have been almost housebound this last 3 years this is quite an achievement! I plan to see a friend or family member for coffee or lunch once a fortnight. I've got an easy yoga dvd which I will start doing once this monster flare eases up! I've bought a motivational life planner where I have been logging all medications, supplements, food, hours of sleep and pain and exhaustion scores for each day. We are starting the year on 7's and 8's but my goal is to end the year on as many 1's 2's and 3's as is possible! So basically this year I plan to take my illness by the balls and kick it!

bella165 · 09/01/2017 14:41

Mine is to spend more time with DD as she is at the stage where a lot of changes are happening with school and life, We are also moving in to a new house so its going to be a new start all around

lhlee62 · 09/01/2017 14:43

We are spending less time watching TV and more time entertaining ourselves, so far we have done play dough, reading, drawing and playing with all the toys they had for Christmas. The scooters have been out a lot too, just hoping for some more good weather

maisiesnan · 09/01/2017 14:53

Get rid of clutter, eat more healthy food, try and walk more and try to come off the anti depressants

kamaxtra · 09/01/2017 14:57

I'm planning on setting out to achieve one task/goal at a time, instead of trying to juggle 5 at once and getting frazzled!

pennwood · 09/01/2017 15:09

My plan this year is to take the time (no matter how busy I am) simply to enjoy & appreciate my family.

liz1970 · 09/01/2017 15:19

To cook more healthier meals and to batch cook and freeze to make it easier for days when i am working :)

cherylann2461 · 09/01/2017 15:23

i start with a fruit smoothie each morning to try and boost my immune system.

purplevamp · 09/01/2017 15:28

My fresh start this January is to try to be good with my diet. I'm not cutting out foods as such, but rather being mindful of what I put in my mouth!! I'm calling it the "one day diet". I do my best for that day, then I'll do it again the next day. But if I'm not that good one day, then I don't worry about it because I can then do the one day diet the next day. I've lost 3lbs so far this year!

rachelmi · 09/01/2017 15:33

We are all trying to get a full 8 hours sleep. No exceptions !! Lol

OldBooks · 09/01/2017 15:47

My main family aim is to spend good quality one to one time with each DC and my DH every day, with no screens and distractions.

BeeMyBaby · 09/01/2017 16:00

To lose some weight and keep it off, my weight has crept up over the last couple of years so time to get it down again!

Ikea1234 · 09/01/2017 16:01

After losing three and a half stone a couple of years ago, my waist has started to creep up a little again, and even my elasticated waistbands are creaking a little. So I have decided to just cut out some of the unhealthy stuff, focus a little more on the healthy foods, and move a little more. After eating all the Christmas leftover turkey, it's time to go cold turkey on the biscuit tin at work. So far so good, and I am already sleeping better and feeling a little more energetic. All the extra water I am drinking is also paying off on my skin too.

21Catherine21 · 09/01/2017 16:02

I plan to be the "strong" woman I know I can be to be when it comes to losing weight and keeping fit. No excuses as I know I would only be fooling myself :)
