The New Year brings about thoughts of new beginnings, and Arla Big Milk would love to know what your intentions are for a fresh start for your family, to help them grow big this January.

What are your plans and aims for the new year? Are you determined to be a better planner of healthier, wholesome meals, to make sure your DC gets enough of the good stuff? Perhaps you’d like your family to practice better sleep hygiene or spend more time together? Maybe you’re looking forward to watching your children grow big and reach milestones like weaning, taking their first steps or learning to read by themselves?

Whatever your aims, share the great ideas you have for a new and fresh start for your family in 2017 with Arla Big Milk below. All who post a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draw.

Our new start for this year is getting out with the kids every day regardless of the weather and we are going to take lots of photo and pick one each day to go in an album, at the end of the year we will have a beautiful scrapbook of memories.
And at the same time I'll hopefully get a bit fitter and the kids will enjoy time away from electronics.

SujataNarang · 09/01/2017 23:30

For the new year I have set up a few objective for myself and the family.
2017 is going to be a memorable year for the goal setting as my little one who is 4 started writing and he has also penned down his personal objectives.

We plan to catch up on a sport as a family.
I have planned to increase my swimming abilities this year. Graduate to the next level.
Do consistent acts of charity and community service.

Help my DS to make more friends.

We are going to be more efficient with our time so we can do more things we enjoy instead of faffing about. Also, I've just cleaned and decluttered the house from top to bottom, filling multiple baskets and boxes with stuff and detritus and insisting they be sorted out. Hopefully, this will stop the "where is the . . . " questions that drive me insane!

Eat more fish and cut down on sugar

sjonlegs · 10/01/2017 09:55

2017 here I come,
No alcohol or sugar is rule of thumb,
More walking less driving wherever poss,
Taking more initiative & being my own boss,
Less time on electronics for the imps,
More fruit and water too methinks,
Chore Monster's up and running for lots more helping,
You can probably already hear them yelping,
Sticking to budgets and using up stuff,
If we've got one that's more than enough,
A lot less hoarding - more giving away,
I think it's time to sit down and pray,
Less time for toxic friends - cripes - wish me luck,
& in the face of repercussions less giving a .... rats arse!

southernsun · 10/01/2017 10:36

We are going to eat more things. We have decided that each week we shall try a different meal to give us a bit more variety as we seem to eat the same dozen or so dishes at the moment.

star1000 · 10/01/2017 11:32

We are hoping to declutter the house, get the youngest swimming without armbands and the oldest is going to learn to tidy her room once a week before treats!

PeggyMitchell123 · 10/01/2017 12:25

We have resolved to have less screen time and get back into routine. I am also determined to start taking my ds back to playgroups after having a little break from them.

ghostwatch · 10/01/2017 12:37

Drinking green tea (tetleys got a brilliant super green tea range) and lots more water I have an app to remind me to drink ! Cutting out the sugar wherever possible and including salmon twice a week on our meal plans.
Also doing the squat challenge and sit up challenge (apps) plus starting running again. Outdoor swimming as much as possible when it warms up in the local lido.
I have the sleep app on my iPhone to remind me half hour before bed to get 8 hours sleep it's helping my routine which helps everyone else's routine in my house.
More library visits for everyone as I love audio books and the kids they love their iPads but I like getting excited about real books too and didn't do enough of that last year.
To do good deeds.

badgermum · 10/01/2017 12:43

We are going to visit a brand new place every month with the children whether its a day trip at the coast or an afternoon in a museum we are going to look for British gems that we've yet to discover

ghostwatch · 10/01/2017 12:45

I like the 17 idea by the way Wink I might nick it !

InvisibleKittenAttack · 10/01/2017 13:07

My plan for 2017 for the DCs is at least one new dish being introduced to the DCs every fortnight.

For me, trying to eat more veg and not using food to treat myself.

And i'm doing a mini- one for January - each week I have to fill just one "bag for life" size bag to take to a charity shop. The idea of a big declutter is a bit scary and I can't see me finding the time, but one bag a week is perfectly achievable. (I've nicked this from a Mum at school who is doing a mini-weekly clear out through January).

MillyVanilli222 · 10/01/2017 15:21

My resolution is to get out of the house more - even just for a little walk, we all need more fresh air!

angela121262 · 10/01/2017 16:14

Losing weight!

Sammyislost · 10/01/2017 17:02

Mine are all house related - paint all the walls and ceilings, professionally clean all the carpets, service everything inside, declutter, etc etc!!

I'm hoping that a clean and tidy home = a happy home!

danigrace · 10/01/2017 19:19

New work, new pregnancy, all very exciting!!

Maddaddam · 10/01/2017 19:37

I am keeping my ambitions modest so am aiming for a weekly swim with dd3 who is keen, and a dry January as a health kick to start the year off.

Clairemike21 · 10/01/2017 21:29

Trying to make sure everyone gets their 5 a day

soph0077 · 10/01/2017 22:44

I am switching carbs for protein! Goodbye bread!

MrsFrTedCrilly · 10/01/2017 23:25

I'm saying yes to things that move me out of my comfort zone!

Cailin7 · 10/01/2017 23:57

no major changes in January, eating more veg and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and weight

user1484094297 · 11/01/2017 00:42

My fresh start is, for once, to make a resolution to simply be more me: do more of what makes me happy and give more of what I have to offer to those around me. When I set unrealistic goals or restrictions I set myself up to fail, so by simply being a bit more connected to myself and making small changes daily, I feel I can manage to work towards my larger goals (financial, relationship and career) more mangably and without the fear of failure.

tigga61 · 11/01/2017 07:49
