The New Year brings about thoughts of new beginnings, and Arla Big Milk would love to know what your intentions are for a fresh start for your family, to help them grow big this January.

What are your plans and aims for the new year? Are you determined to be a better planner of healthier, wholesome meals, to make sure your DC gets enough of the good stuff? Perhaps you’d like your family to practice better sleep hygiene or spend more time together? Maybe you’re looking forward to watching your children grow big and reach milestones like weaning, taking their first steps or learning to read by themselves?

Whatever your aims, share the great ideas you have for a new and fresh start for your family in 2017 with Arla Big Milk below. All who post a comment will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks, and good luck with the prize draw.

Get fitter is my 2017 goal, I walk and ride but still don't feel any where near as fit as I was pre DS. We were a very healthy eating family which has lapsed a bit over the last two months for various reasons so getting back to healthy eating over the next few weeks and cutting out some sugar.

BookwormMummy · 11/01/2017 11:58

To stop all four children automatically asking after every evening meal, 'What's for after?'
I have bought a new and bigger fruit bowl and now place it on the dining table each night in an effort to remind them that the answer is always going to be fruit, fruit or more fruit!
We have never really eaten pudding after every meal anyway (perhaps around 3 times a week maximum) but that still doesn't stop the numerous sweet cravings after most meals, myself and hubby included, and I am determined to ensure that pudding becomes a once a week treat as we find a more healthier alternative.

DH and I are eating more healthily and I'm trying to say yes to more things

tooneedyme · 11/01/2017 12:30

Positive thinking. Chill out time and calm the pace. I am too highly strung and it ribs off on the children so I am making a huge effort to be more easy going.

sten147 · 11/01/2017 14:12

Mine is to stop putting off till tomorrow what can be done today. So far I have achieved this and I have clean, ironed clothes.

goldenretriever1978 · 11/01/2017 17:52

No devices whilst eating at the table.

stewaris · 11/01/2017 19:00

Eat more fresh food, plan meals on weekly basis, cut back on sugar and fizzy drinks (all of us) and spend more time together as a family. The kids grow so fast and we all get caught up in work, school, homework, family stresses that the time goes past and you miss chunks of their lives. So deffo more time for us all together.

sootyo · 11/01/2017 19:43

Eat more fruit and veg

Jaderice21 · 11/01/2017 21:31

whitbyranger · 12/01/2017 06:19

I must lose weight and improve my basic fitness.

Ladybirdtinselturd · 12/01/2017 10:29

I want to try and be more active. I have two young dd and I want to be a positive role model for them to grow up healthy.

sparky771177 · 12/01/2017 11:21

To be more positive in work, and be more grateful that I have a job, also want to eat more healthier this year.

SpartaCarcass · 12/01/2017 11:24

Less screen time for all of us (get off MN then!!)
More reading
More homecooked food rather than convenience food
Much less sugar
Tidier house!

Mcstriving4leanie · 12/01/2017 14:50

My dcs and I have decided to do a Joe wicks workout every other day!
It has gone well so far and is improving our fitness no end. My dcs are 11 yo boy and 14 yo girl.

doctorboo · 12/01/2017 14:53

In our house the start of 2017 has already brought a new job for my DH and new, longer, nursery schedule for our middle son.
I'm helping our eldest son (being assessed for ASD) to grow his friendship groups and his personal happiness- being 'quirky' is a great thing. Our youngest (1.5yrs) is going to enjoy toddler groups and 1:1 time and when I'm not doing more meals from scratch, I'll be doing some exercise and rekindling friendships.

Quietvoiceplease · 12/01/2017 15:03

A few things, but most importantly to reclaim some leisure time for myself, including:

  • I plan to read 52 books this year (using a great checklist I found online of different types of books based on genres, themes, places etc)
  • to try out a different recipe once a week (nothing particularly fancy, just something outside of the usual routine)
  • to finish the house renovations (that were meant to only take a year and we're now in year three), in order that we have a home not a house
  • to enjoy my children more, rather than thinking too much about the things that need to be done.
thekiwibex · 12/01/2017 15:28

Having had a baby towards the end of last year, I'm looking forward to us continuing to get to know each other, and growing and learning together as a family!

riverwell · 12/01/2017 18:06

To go for a walk everyday , rain or shine. Take more notice of nature. Feel grateful for what I've got and not what I haven't. Stop comparing myself with others.

musicalprof · 12/01/2017 18:18

DH needs to lose some belly fat (for health reasons) & I would really like to tone up (after two C-sections & a hysterectomy), so it's 'getting fit time' in this household. Whilst the days are short & the weather is gloomy, the whole family (including 2 dc) are all having fun on the Wii, which also means we're spending more fun time together.

hannahlubella · 12/01/2017 18:42

No shouting, more reasonable discussion...

JemIsMyNameNooneElseIsTheSame · 12/01/2017 18:50

Less sugar, more walks in the countryside and coast and less stress hopefully!

annarack99 · 12/01/2017 19:35

To stop feeding my baby boy to sleep and have him self settle and then sleep through the night.

ohlittlepea · 12/01/2017 19:41

This year I'm planning to read more, start running and swimming again and just generally be kind to myself and others hopefully that'll all shave positive effects for my family ... which we might be adding to this tear 😍

shewhomustbeEbayed · 12/01/2017 19:45

Having a rotating weekly meal plan so we all know what we are having and can lend a hand.
Getting rid of stuff, have already taken a load of clothes/shoes/bags to dress agency and charity shop. Am taking more stuff to eco swap shop on Saturday, am already feeling lighter, I just have to remember not to bring anything home !

FeelTheNoise · 12/01/2017 19:45

To make our new house a home, when we finally move into it!
To get emotionally and physically strong.
This is our year!
