The school summer holidays are a great time to share lots of wonderful moments with your children, and though the cost of exciting days out can really add up, they’re not the only way to have fun.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons would like you to share the joyful summer moments you’ve shared with your children which cost nothing.

This could be a water fight in the garden on a hot summer day, a trip to a local museum that you both really enjoyed or an impromptu picnic in the park. Have you found creative ways to have fun without the price tag? Whatever your joyful summer moments that cost nothing, share them with Cadbury below.

All those who post a comment below will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £265 Love2Shop voucher and a second winner will win a Merlin family ticket worth up to £200.

Thanks and good luck!

Additional information for Merlin prize: the winner will need to advise on the attraction they would like to visit and they will be sent a set of open dated tickets to use in 2016. The exception is Madame Tussauds in London where it gets very busy. Therefore, the winner will need to advise on three potential dates for their visit and Merlin will book them in in advance for one of those dates.

Spending a day on the beach, digging holes and making sandcastles with my DCs. Costs nothing but we all love it.

daisyduke66 · 07/08/2016 22:16

What could be more joyful than a lovely picnic in the garden, sun, paddling pool, everyone out in the fresh air, dogs playing and fun and games 🌞 lovely times just all being together, no money needed😃

Spending quality family time having a picnic and fun on the beach with our doggy at West Wittering. It was beautifully sunny and we went to the Harvester on our way home at Port Solent, sat outside and had a lovely meal while watching the yachts in the marina. My 16 year old son really opened up a lot and talked about his plans for the future and we had a lot of fun.

seeingdouble2 · 07/08/2016 22:42

Moments that cost nothing...there are loads! Days out to parks, woodland walks, the beach, playing in the garden, bug hunting, scavenger hunts in local area or garden etc etc etc.

Trips to the park with a picnic. Lovely evening family dog walks. Feeding the ducks. Lego, Lego and more Lego. The summer holiday library challenge. All have kept us busy so far plus a couple of days trips that did have to be paid for.

We are lucky enough to live across the road from the beach and so have daily fab free times and memories on the beach :)

Went for a day trip to the seaside. My 3 year old loved the sand and splashing in the water. He had the biggest grin on his face the entire time, and it was infectious he had both of us joining in and a few other people near by! it was a great day!

For my six year old's 6 birthday we surprised him with a trip to Alton towers the weather was great so hot. We had a fab time my son and hubby went in Justin's House and shot bouncy balls at each other whilst I sat waiting in the sun in my wheelchair, We watched the Tree Fu Tom Show and had a ice lolly before visiting the Nina and the Neurons Lab. (added the pic of hubby and son in the lab). Then we went on the small pirate shop about four times. Before we all went on the spinning cannon balls together it was amazing first time my son has been big enough hubby me and my son whizzing around and around all smiling. Then over to shark bay reef and then the pirate ships bit that soaked my son and hubby as they tried to shoot water. Then over to the castle and a sad moment when my son didn't win the big snake by climbing the vertical rope ladder and got upset. So we cheered him up with the Frog ride managing to go on it all by himself as he was tall enough. Before watching Ice Age and then Sky Ride back to the front and home at about three. An absolutely great day x

Lying on the loungers in the back garden, enjoying the fresh air and sun!

vedden1978 · 08/08/2016 06:47

I love taking my boys aged 1 and 5 to the local community farm. Free to go and meet up with lots of other mums and their friends. We take a picnic and have a great time

mo3733 · 08/08/2016 07:18

i am lucky enough to live close by a remote river. we spend hours there with nets fishing and having a picnic. there are no shops so everything is brought from home and therefore cheap

Toystory36 · 08/08/2016 07:32

My little girl starts school in September, so this is our first summer holiday together.

We have had picnics and joined the library big summer book challenge.
We also went to the local pet shop and did there summer cuddle a pet workshop.
I've bought chalks and we have done outside patio art and we have had a little garden party with friends and some cartons of orange and hotdogs!!
All cheap and fun x

Yesterday my son and his dad went to the allotment and harvested our onions and spuds, spending the afternoon digging and chatting. They hadn't spent time together on their own for a while, so lots to catch up on. Didn't cost a penny and we have months and months worth of spuds and onions as a result!

Yy to the allotment. Summer is the only time my dc are happy to come and stuff their faces with fresh, sun warmed raspberries. Last year dd2 said "I love it here, I can scoff my face!"

We're lucky to have a country park close by with a mini pool/beach type area where it's safe for the dc to paddle and swim (with the fishes!). Even my almost teen dd1 is happy to join in with her little sister or sit in her camping chair and sketch for a few hours.

We love going for a walk and having a picnic on a spot with a lovely view. Relaxing, peaceful and you get some exercise. Joyful!

phillie1 · 08/08/2016 09:57

Water pistols and water bombs in the garden has been the best fun

Sellins · 08/08/2016 10:24

An old sheet of polythene some water and washing up liquid for sliding on keeps them amused all day

kamaxtra · 08/08/2016 10:57

Okay, so we paid for petrol, but driving down to Brighton for the weekend was such a lovely time! Walking along the pier, enjoying the beach on a hot day, etc.

Badders123 · 08/08/2016 11:01

I have a 13 and a 7 year old do it can be tricky finding things they both enjoy but a sure fire winners are;
Film day - we each choose a DVD and snuggle up and watch in our pjs. Ice creams from the freezer and popcorn from the cupboard Smile
Badminton in the garden - gets quite competitive though!
Baking...both DC love making bread and cakes
Paddling pool! They were in it for 2 hours yesterday afternoon!
Library is another free one but my local one closed Sad
Drawing and colouring still very popular in our house too Smile

hermancakedestroyer · 08/08/2016 12:31

We absolutely love a fun day out at a theme park but we are equally happy with a picnic taken down to the local woods. The dcs can climb trees, collect different leaves and twigs and then we sit down to eat out picnic lunch together. Lovely, quality time together as a family.

VilootShesCute · 08/08/2016 14:29

My dc's love the beach. 2 hours of stone throwing is the best thing ever for them. Completely free!

kittylover · 08/08/2016 15:45

Smooshface · 08/08/2016 18:10
