The school summer holidays are a great time to share lots of wonderful moments with your children, and though the cost of exciting days out can really add up, they’re not the only way to have fun.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons would like you to share the joyful summer moments you’ve shared with your children which cost nothing.

This could be a water fight in the garden on a hot summer day, a trip to a local museum that you both really enjoyed or an impromptu picnic in the park. Have you found creative ways to have fun without the price tag? Whatever your joyful summer moments that cost nothing, share them with Cadbury below.

All those who post a comment below will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £265 Love2Shop voucher and a second winner will win a Merlin family ticket worth up to £200.

Thanks and good luck!

Additional information for Merlin prize: the winner will need to advise on the attraction they would like to visit and they will be sent a set of open dated tickets to use in 2016. The exception is Madame Tussauds in London where it gets very busy. Therefore, the winner will need to advise on three potential dates for their visit and Merlin will book them in in advance for one of those dates.

I asked dc to help plan our holiday entertainment. They have requested lots of parks, beach trips, play dates, home cinema, readind and crafting. I'm surprised how few costly things they want to do. It's reminded me it's about doing things together not about what those things are.

As my niece and nephew said they were bored at the beginning of their holidays, my sister sent them round to me to help me sort out the shed, which was full of all sorts of junk. We didn't get much "sorting out" done though because having emptied the shed, we somehow ended up making all the junk into a fort - even the dog and cats joined in. Yes, the shed still needs sorting - but that can be done any time and the memory of us building the fort will last forever!

Beautiful walks down the canal to feed the ducks, a little picnic and a homemade ice lolly when we get home Smile

Lots of ideas. Picnics in the park and running jumping games get out a skipping rope and hula hoop lots of laughter and fun and exercise

Going netting in the local river on a lovely summer day. DS loves looking for small fish and other animals.

We have been loving looking for bugs in the garden...we even have a worm farm and fairy garden! Seeing her eyes light up and her getting excited when she has spotted a little woodlouse wriggling under a rock really makes your heart melt :)

del2929 · 08/08/2016 22:24

chalk painting the slabs in the garden... ok so it does cost around a pound but the chalk tub is still going strong 2 weeks later. so a good investment.

sweir1 · 08/08/2016 22:24

We spent all of Saturday playing in the river. It was fab

Charbru123 · 08/08/2016 22:45

A picnic in the park, kids like nothing better!

Bec32 · 09/08/2016 11:55

My children love scavenger/treasure hunts. My DH writes out clues for all over the house that then lead to the next clue. They absolutely love it and it costs nothing. If you plan ahead you can do it in your local park too. We also set my daughter photography challenges in the school holidays. She has the vetch camera and we will write her a list like, take a photo of something beginning with A, or something orange. So much fun and can be done anywhere, whatever the weather.

we go for long walks, visit museums or go on the beach, free and fun !

jandoc · 09/08/2016 13:04

It's usually when we go to my sister's house and we are all having fun in the back garden with the sun shining

It was my sons birthday in July and we took him to the seaside for the day. We had some tickets from the arcade left over from last year and won some more so used them on some water pistols. Free entertainment for the next day and one happy water loving boy.

Kem99 · 09/08/2016 20:20

We love to go a walk along the canal, looking at the flowers, wildlife and running from the bees! A picnic on the warm days is great to have instead of lunch back at home.

vixo · 09/08/2016 21:51

We spent 4 hours in a playground and a field with friends yesterday. There was no one else there and the children ran around, climbed trees and made up games - exactly what summer holidays should be!

Clairemike21 · 09/08/2016 21:58

Rock pool dipping is always fun

chrisfc99 · 09/08/2016 22:53

Spending time on our local beach, building sandcastles, rock pooling & going in the sea.

I have two tumours at the mo and am up and down to London. All bets are off with regard to a summer hols so we are focusing on 'our gate' hols where we just have the date out and go home. I asked them to pick as many things as possible and we are working through them eg skatepark:

Gadgaddy · 10/08/2016 10:23

Let's go fly a kite💗💗💗

Took my 5 year old to the park with a kite Saturday and she absulutly loved it, I've never seen a little girl run so fast, didn't even want to stop and eat her pic nic, great fun xxx

Cocacolaandchocolate · 10/08/2016 12:14

Picnic in our local park and having story's under the tree... Felt so lovely cuddle up together.

elvisthehamster · 10/08/2016 13:11

My littlest had it in her head that she wanted to eat 'Cake by the ocean' like in the song ! Haha . We went to a beach local to us (with cake in tow of course) that we keep meaning to visit -we knew there was a seal colony that stayed there but didn't realise how close up to the shore they came-we spent a lovely day , walking, playing , collecting stones, watching the seals bob up and down at us. I love days like that -low spend and fun for everyone , fresh air thrown in!

RACHELSMITH45 · 10/08/2016 14:58

We enjoyed a bug hunt in the garden using a magnifying glass and a plastic tub - we did let them go after a few minutes but the kids loved finding and looking at the insects up close!
