The school summer holidays are a great time to share lots of wonderful moments with your children, and though the cost of exciting days out can really add up, they’re not the only way to have fun.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons would like you to share the joyful summer moments you’ve shared with your children which cost nothing.

This could be a water fight in the garden on a hot summer day, a trip to a local museum that you both really enjoyed or an impromptu picnic in the park. Have you found creative ways to have fun without the price tag? Whatever your joyful summer moments that cost nothing, share them with Cadbury below.

All those who post a comment below will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £265 Love2Shop voucher and a second winner will win a Merlin family ticket worth up to £200.

Thanks and good luck!

We are so lucky to live in a beautiful historic city - so we can make our own swords and shields and take a walk around the city walls, stopping off for a picnic.
Treasure hunts (homemade) are really exciting for my 6yr old and free, I usually make a handful up of sights we are going to spot around the city with a treat at the end - icecream or hotchoc.

I remember when my children were younger making water slides in the garden from plastic sheeting and a hosepipe. That was fun.

As soon as the sun shines we hit the local splash park, with a picnic all it costs us is parking and petrol to get there, and we can spend the whole day splashing and having fun.

I let my toddlers paint the leaves of our hedge. They painted happily for hours and it gave the hedge a pleasingly surreal look afterwards. It all washed off after a couple of rainy days!

My 3.5 year old was absolutely beside himself when I put the slide in the paddling pool. He spent ages flying down the slide into the paddling pool in a hysterical fit of giggles. His very own water flume! He loved it.

Day out on the beach, baby crawling and splashing in the rivers created by the tide and having a great time.

A lovely picnic by the stream at the Trough of Bowland :)

All 3 of our children are home educated so for summer it's a bit of a reversal, where families whose kids are at school get to spend more time with their little ones, our family works opposite! During term times we go to places like the beach, museums, parks....it's quiet as obviously most children are in school.

During the school's summer break we tend to stay at home a lot more, so we'll do things in the garden or play games indoors, dependent on the weather. It means all the kids who couldn't go to events and parks during school time are not then contending with home ed kids who can, so it frees up more space for school children.

So far we've had water fights, several picnics and set up tents in the garden - all cheap or free and all fun :)

We had a lovely evening at the local beach playing volleyball with some friends. Fun, healthy, free entertainment!

Blackberry picking and subsequent cooking/baking sessions - a winner every year and a family tradition!

SaltySeaBird · 07/08/2016 17:51

Days spent at the local park with a picnic blanket and sun tent. Days on the beach (we live on the coast) making sandcastles. Bike rides, walks, scavenger hunts and most recently Pokemon hunting! Baking is always a firm favourite too as are the National Trust things to do before you are 11 3/4 activities.

My children love arts and crafts on a wet day and also the playpark (the weather is normally awful here so we don't get to the playpark often so when we do they love it, and being in the fresh air is great for them too, they definitely sleep better!)

Going to the beach

I had a relaxing and fun afternoon with my children to the local park. There are a paddling pool and a play area there so they enjoyed splashing and playing around. The weather was very nice so we sat in the sun having a picnic and sharing stories.

We walked up a local hill which was in the grounds of a local vineyard. There's a stream that runs across the grounds, and the girls played in the stream all day, while we sat and had a picnic.. Cold booked eggs, sandwiches, and fruit. It was one of the best days ever!

Taking DD and her friends to the Southbank in London, packed a picnic, sat on the grass outside the Tate and watched street performers for most of the day. We were meant to go splash in the water wall, try out the new orange benches, but the day just passed us by. Apart from the train ride in, cost nothing and was a brilliant day out.

grumpymummy3 · 07/08/2016 21:22

A simple picnic in the park meeting up with school friends is a must for us.

We go walking because we are lucky to live in beautiful lancashire. We pack a lunch and just walk.
Sometimes we walk up Pendle hill, depending on how energetic we are feeling Smile

My kids are having a really dull holidays if I'm honest. My mum lives with us and has stage 4 medullary thyroid cancer. She had her voice box removed (so no more stories on Nonna's knee) and she just finished nearly 7 weeks of gruelling radiotherapy to her head and neck. So I'm nursing her and the kids are playing on devices Sad

I have put the paddling pool up for them and we have enjoyed the garden. It'd be lovely if their Nonna was well enough to sit out with them and watch them splashing around. That would be truly joyful for me and a memory we'd all cherish for ever.

I almost didn't post this, but it's been a tough day and this keeps popping up in active, so I've posted the truth.

We visited a local park that we hadn't been to before. It was a lovely (rarely hot) summers day and we discovered not only a fantastic park, but an amazing splash pad for the kids. Amazing day out and totally free!

Having been impatient in hospital for the past 11 weeks I felt sad that I had missed so much of the Summer with my little girl who has only just turned 4. She starts big school in September and I worried we wouldn't get any time together before then.
Last Wednesday I walked out of the hospital and into her arms as the sun shine down on us. I will never forget the smile on her face and the way her skin smelled like coconuts from her sun cream. Her curly hair in my face, soft skin. I was going home.
It didn't cost a single penny and yet it was priceless. It was love, pure and simple xx
