The school summer holidays are a great time to share lots of wonderful moments with your children, and though the cost of exciting days out can really add up, they’re not the only way to have fun.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons would like you to share the joyful summer moments you’ve shared with your children which cost nothing.

This could be a water fight in the garden on a hot summer day, a trip to a local museum that you both really enjoyed or an impromptu picnic in the park. Have you found creative ways to have fun without the price tag? Whatever your joyful summer moments that cost nothing, share them with Cadbury below.

All those who post a comment below will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £265 Love2Shop voucher and a second winner will win a Merlin family ticket worth up to £200.

Thanks and good luck!

Additional information for Merlin prize: the winner will need to advise on the attraction they would like to visit and they will be sent a set of open dated tickets to use in 2016. The exception is Madame Tussauds in London where it gets very busy. Therefore, the winner will need to advise on three potential dates for their visit and Merlin will book them in in advance for one of those dates.

We love having a spontaneous picnic in our local park. We take a fancy blanket and lots of sandwiches, cake, fruit and crisps and not forgetting lashings of pop! The kids run round the park and tire themselves out then we find a nice spot under a tree in tuck into our picnic! I have always loved picnics and do them as often as possible!

Going for long bike rides in the sunset

We had a fab day with dc playing in the local out door pool, the weather was hot and it felt like we were away on holiday. They became so much more confident in the water and loved having a pic nic next to the pool. Great day.

Has to be the park, we are lucky and have one on our doorstep :-)

We had a fun filled day at the beach in Findochty. We took a packed lunch. He built sandcastles, went "surfing", rock pooling and had a lovely day out very cheaply.

Making a scrapbook of their holidays with the grandchildren - kept them going for ages

I bought the kids a ' butterfly growing kit', it cost about a tenner but it's totally been worth every penny and I intend to use it every year to sort of signify the summer holidays!

We got miniscule catapillar delivered, observed them, cared for them, learnt and talked about them! Then we got chrysalis and then butterfly! It's been magical, we released them into the garden after a few days and keep looking out for them!

A walk down the river, skimming stones on the "beach" it usually cost me a pack lunch and an ice cream but my kids have spotted otters, kingfishers and a comerant and enjoy the walk.

Sticking the sprinkler on in the garden and letting the dcs run wild.....even though they are now 11, 8 & 6 they never get bored. Add a couple of water pistols, hula hoops and a paddling pool and it's impossible to drag them away!

Shell finding on the beach

Playing in the garden and having a picnic tea on the lawn. Small things but exciting to small people if it seems special. Easy to clear up too.

Dd isn't at school yet, but all her toddler groups are off for the summer. We spent a morning playing the happy wrappy uppy game (inspired by a book called 'there's a shark in the bath') which involved wrapping each other up with toilet paper. It then moved on to making clothing out of toilet paper including beautiful no sew scarfs and headWear. Dd was giggling away and I ended up looking utterly ridiculous, but we had a wonderful time playing together.

The tissue was then made into paper mache which we painted the next day. It cost nothing, and we had a lot of fun!

Living in the Cairngorm's National Park we have the best adventure playground right on our doorstep.. Love to spend time with the family walking & cycling and anything outdoors :)

Camping in the garden!

We are lucky enough to live in an area with plenty of beautiful parks, countryside, coastal walks and other areas to explore. If we are in need of a free day out, we simply pick one to go to and enjoy some quality family time.

Traceyedd · 11/08/2016 12:14

A family bbq is a winner for us as no matter what we have all been doing it brings us all to eat together. The kids enjoy getting involved in the prep eg. salad making and getting the picnic blankets etc out and i am left to pour the wine whist my dh cooks the food!

Our best free moment was attending a free Sublime Science session - my son loved making slime, sweets & creating explosions!

My two little monkeys (aged 2.5 years and 5 years) are the most happy when they are just out in the open air. Whether it be going for a walk round one of our lovely lakes we have in our home town of Milton Keynes, going for a bear hunt in the local woods, playing at the play park, feeding the ducks, riding their bikes or scooters, going to open air festivals and play days or just simply eating lunch alfresco on a blanket in the back garden. I love it as it means we all get out in the fresh air, get some exercise and have lots of fun. We all go stir crazy when it's raining and we can't get outside - I always think we should make the most of the summer when it's here as it's gone all too quickly and then it's back to wind, rain and being cooped up inside :(

We often walk the Tolkien trail in the Ribble Valley during the summer. Costs nothing, the children love being outdoors and you get the privilege of witnessing first hand some of the most beautiful scenery on offer in the world.!

GloGirl · 11/08/2016 16:22

We watched the Olympics opening ceremony the morning after, but they didn't know it was live. We sat on picnic rugs and had some great snacks for them and they were mesmerised for surprisingly longer than we thought.

supersuperroo88 · 11/08/2016 16:26

my daughter 16 months, walking around the park screaming at other little kids with joy!

Applemuncher · 11/08/2016 16:42

We went to the ice cream factory in Nantwich over the summer holidays (we went three times!) - they have full size JCB diggers there. My son, Harry loves them but this year he really got the hang of driving them. Every time he goes on them he gets a look of sheer joy.

We've had a few adventures in our local copse, these have included picking the ripe (and not so ripe in some cases) blackberries and plums, making pictures with gravel in the sandy areas, and climbing trees and making up obstacle tracks which DD and DS then race around.

MissPMA · 11/08/2016 20:18

The simple things always seems to be the best. My favourite moment was spending a sunny morning playing in the garden, my 8 month old loves pulling himself up on things now and seeing him and my 2.5 year old standing together at the water table splashing each other was truly joyful, the first time they have really played together and the first time my baby looked more like a toddler than a baby, one of those momemts which would be impossible to capture in a photo
