To celebrate Fairy Non Bio’s sponsorship of the Mumsnet Talk App, we’re launching the Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate – as with all great Wink series, it's a three-parter. Part I is about how often you wash your bed sheets (as we know, always a hot topic on Mumsnet).

We all know that washing bed sheets can be total faff: there’s stripping the bed, then there’s putting the wash on (are you a warm 40C or a hot 90C type?) Then there’s hanging it out and the struggle for drying space (unless you use the dryer Blush?) After that there’s folding - and, for the super-keen, perhaps even ironing. Finally, there’s getting the darn things back on the bed.

So - how often do you wash your bed sheets? And how often do you wash your DC’s bed sheets? Do you have a specific process? Perhaps you change pillow cases weekly, but sheets and duvet covers every two weeks? How often do you change your mattress protector (Blush again)? Do you use softener?

Whatever your bed sheet-washing process, do share it with Fairy Non Bio in the thread below, and maybe even give us a live update from the Mumsnet Talk App as you're waiting for the load to finish Grin.

Everyone who posts will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Aim for alternate weeks, non bio,40 wash.I have quite a few lots of bedding so do the washing on sunny/dry blowy days.Matress protector every few months when I turn the mattress(and hoover it!😱).

Buzzardbird · 07/08/2016 12:09

Weekly for all beds. Wash at 60 degrees with Fairy Non Bio and sensitive fabric conditioner as DD has sensitive skin, dry on line for fresh fragrance. I have a rule that if I wash and dry linen then DH is responsible for making the beds again as I have been known to get lost inside a duvet cover for days.

After washing and drying the whole set for the bed (including sheet) is shoved inside one pillowcase so that everything required is easy to grab quickly.

Throw pillows and duvets in every few months and replace yearly.

jodie1kanobe · 07/08/2016 12:21

Every two weeks - it is the job I hate doing the most! I wish I could say I did it weekly but that would be a fib :) Always with Fairy Non-Bio as we have sensitive skin

mrpeterhall · 07/08/2016 12:25

Weekly.............and when my kids were growing up, we stripped theirs weekly too. But the difference was.................we just left their clean bedding in their rooms for them to make their own beds.

Maclairey · 07/08/2016 12:50

Every week without fail. I cannot understand those who leave it longer than a week, but each to their own. I dont iron bedding because I dont have time but I like the look of ironed bedding. My usually goes in the dryer, although I do like to hang it on the line when I can. I love clean bedding and if it wasnt through lack of time and the complete waste of water and energy, I have would clean bedding every day!

SnugglySnerd · 07/08/2016 12:59

DD's is done weekly, ours fortnightly. 40 degrees unless DD has been sick or something that needs a hotter wash. I use own brand non bio powder and white vinegar - very frugal!
Dry on line outside if possible or use dryer if it's really wet weather then air over the banisters.

littlepooch · 07/08/2016 13:03

Weekly - both our king size stuff and baby DD's cotbed sheets. I do the mattress protector on ours probably every other week. All goes in the washer at 60 with non bio powder and fabric conditioner. I admit it's all tumble dried. DD is still in a sleepyhead so the cover for that gets done weekly too (she's not a sicky baby otherwise would be more often).

All our bed linen gets ironed - though I confess not by me but by my cleaner Blush

I love clean sheets!

helga16 · 07/08/2016 13:05

Fortnightly here. Love the feel of clean sheets but hate changing the duvet cover.

zeenie · 07/08/2016 13:11

i wash all the bedding every 2 weeks, more if needed, at 60 degrees

wjanice121 · 07/08/2016 14:10

I wash the sheets, duvet cover and pillow cases every 2 weeks but the mattress protector every 5-6 weeks. I don't wash them on anything other than 60 with a scoop of powder, vanish and some softener.

towser44 · 07/08/2016 15:09

I am ashamed to say about every 5-6 weeks :-(

GrumpyMcGrumpFace · 07/08/2016 15:15

I make things easier for myself by doing our bottom sheet one week, duvet and pillowcases the next. For some reason doing half at a time is much less daunting! The DDs strip and remake their beds themselves, which also really helps, though DD2 needs help putting the duvet cover back on. They are mostly weekly, unless some unfortunate event has occurred in the meantime Wink

40 degrees. Powder and nice smelly softener, to prove I did it! Ideally out on the line, if not in the drier, because it takes too much space up otherwise.

Iron pillow cases, not the duvet covers or fitted sheets. Do arrange scatter cushions on top. Makes me feel like a grown up (rather than a twat )

liz1970 · 07/08/2016 15:18

Weekly :)

GREATAUNT1 · 07/08/2016 15:45

Weekly

moneypenny66 · 07/08/2016 16:34

It's weekly for me...I love the smell and feel of freshly washed bed . Dry outside if possible or over the radiators if necessary. 60 degrees...not very environmentally friendly, but gets rid of the dust mites apparently!

Funkyferret · 07/08/2016 16:51

Um, I don't really have a routine. It's probably once every two to three weeks, which I know some people will think is a bit grim but we are daily shower in the evening people so at least we are clean when we get in!

hannonle · 07/08/2016 18:20

No specific washing day - whichever looks like a good weather drying day - but about once a fortnight the pillowcase, duvet cover, and sheet. With softener. Dried outside cos I hate tumble driers. Mattress protector maybe once every 2 months or so unless there's a specific 'spillage'.

pixiedust1 · 07/08/2016 18:50

I wash my pillowcases every week, but bedsheets/covers probably monthly unless I'm at the fake tan Wink.

EmNix · 07/08/2016 18:52

Weekly where possible. Nothing better than having freshly laundered bedding to help you sleep

SuzCG · 07/08/2016 19:01

Every two weeks - which I'm sure isn't really often enough, but I drown in the washing cycle of family life and really can't fit it in any more often...

ricola1 · 07/08/2016 19:02

Every 2 weeks. Hot wash

sand74 · 07/08/2016 19:03

Every Saturday the beds get stripped and washed.Wash on a long cycle at 40 degrees with softener to make them lovely and soft and smell nice.Outside to dry if its a good day and i admit to being lazy and not ironing-they get put straight back on the beds once dry!

Fluffsnuts · 07/08/2016 19:29

Normally wash the bedsheets fortnightly but since having my ds 7 months ago it's more like twice weekly due to leaking boobs and baby sick. He co-sleeps so his sheets are our sheets!

AnnabellesScarf · 07/08/2016 19:35

I change the sheets on all the beds weekly, so one king sized set and two single.
I don't necessarily wash them straight away though - we have 3 king sized sets and 5 single, so if possible I leave them in the laundry bin to wait for a warm, dry day to wash them.

I wash at either 40 or 60, biological washing powder with a bit of fabric softener. In the winter, I finish them off in the dryer after they have been hanging up to dry for a day. I don't usually iron, but occasionally I will - I like the feel of freshly ironed sheets.
