The Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate, Part I. £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won NOW CLOSED

To celebrate Fairy Non Bio’s sponsorship of the Mumsnet Talk App, we’re launching the Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate – as with all great Wink series, it's a three-parter. Part I is about how often you wash your bed sheets (as we know, always a hot topic on Mumsnet).

We all know that washing bed sheets can be total faff: there’s stripping the bed, then there’s putting the wash on (are you a warm 40C or a hot 90C type?) Then there’s hanging it out and the struggle for drying space (unless you use the dryer Blush?) After that there’s folding - and, for the super-keen, perhaps even ironing. Finally, there’s getting the darn things back on the bed.

So - how often do you wash your bed sheets? And how often do you wash your DC’s bed sheets? Do you have a specific process? Perhaps you change pillow cases weekly, but sheets and duvet covers every two weeks? How often do you change your mattress protector (Blush again)? Do you use softener?

Whatever your bed sheet-washing process, do share it with Fairy Non Bio in the thread below, and maybe even give us a live update from the Mumsnet Talk App as you're waiting for the load to finish Grin.

Everyone who posts will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Fortnightly

MORGIE52 · 06/08/2016 21:53

I tend to wash every 2 weeks but sometimes sooner if really warm weather or someone is ill.

pfcpompeysarah · 06/08/2016 22:17

I try to keep to weekly washes but forget sometimes, but I love the smell of the sheets when they are replaced and have that lovely fabric conditioner scent.

lhlee62 · 06/08/2016 22:33

We put it on a 40 wash, I would say fortnightly, but it has been more frequent in the last few weeks because it has been so warm and I just feel a bit grubby. Also my eldest has been potty training at night and we've had a few accidents!

Rockelburger · 06/08/2016 22:35

I was always every Saturday without fail and it was the one area of housework I was strict about.

Since having our first baby - 11 weeks old - I realise I have only changed about 3 or 4 times ConfusedBlushShock. We are generally too tired and it is a faff to change.

The washing part I love, I hang over bannister to dry and hate the idea of spiders getting in bedding on the washing line. Is enough to give me nightmares!

30 degree wash with fairy washing capsule and softener.

cherylann2461 · 06/08/2016 22:40

Every Tuesday the bed is stripped, left to air and the bedding washed.

suzannedrummond · 06/08/2016 22:56

i change my bedding every week . i love fresh bedding and i change my childrens weekly aswell

jenhegarty · 06/08/2016 22:57

I aim for a change every 2 weeks but with a new baby in the house that has lapsed a bit. I still do manage fresh sheets for the guest room, no shirking there! I tend to stick to a 40c wash, occasionally upping to 60C if they seem particularly grubby. Love drying on the line in the summer but tumble dry in the cold/wetter months as we have virtually no drying space in our small terrace. My least favourite bit is trying to lift our enormous and heavy mattress to get the fitted sheet under (a silver lining to having had a c section was not being allowed to do it for a couple of months!) but it's worth it for fresh sheet night. My little one is still in his Moses basket (or with me) overnight so I have the joys of children's bedding still largely to come...

Oh and ironing? No way!

Jesswoods1992 · 06/08/2016 22:59

Twice a month :) love the feeling of clean bed sheets when climbing into bed after a busy day with the kids xx

Lovewhereilive · 06/08/2016 23:01

Fortnightly in winter, weekly in summer. Dry in the tumble dryer or outside or conservatory. Never iron it, life is too short.

SauvignonPlonker · 06/08/2016 23:14

Fortnightly bed sheet changes, washed at 40 degrees with fabric conditioner. Dried outside in summer (I have to plan around the Scottish weather to do it!). In winter, I dry on an air-dryer in the spare room. Never tumble-dry as I find things shrink. Never iron bedding life is too short.

Kids bedding done fortnightly, or more frequently with night- time accidents, illness etc. I do tumble dry their bed sheets though.

ImmortalBeloved72 · 06/08/2016 23:24

Every week

GillianY1 · 06/08/2016 23:40

I change and wash the bedding around every 10 days

compy99 · 06/08/2016 23:42

every week, if I had a housekeeper I would lie it done daily, but as it is me that changes the bed it is done every Monday

jcyclops · 07/08/2016 00:27

Pillow cases weekly, duvet covers monthly, and sheets every two weeks or sooner if needed to "make up a load". Hang on lines in the utility room so never tumble dry bedding. Pillow cases are the only thing that gets ironed. Pillows are thick linen filled with Buckwheat husks so they can be emptied through a little zip and the outers washed normally approx every 3 months.

Kera16 · 07/08/2016 01:53

Every two weeks, but can be more often for little one, accidents, colds, pulling nappy off etc... Washed on 60 with bio detergent. Dried on line and never ironed.

evieclarkson · 07/08/2016 01:57

admittedly I wash my own bed sheets about once a month, and pillow cases a bit more often!

TJCB68 · 07/08/2016 08:09

Weekly.
Minimum 60 but occasionally boil if needed.

carolineandryanandseb · 07/08/2016 08:14

errrrrrr, not often enough probably- once a month!!!

Nettie17 · 07/08/2016 09:15

Weekly for mine and the kids less as they have to change them theirselves!

kelandab · 07/08/2016 09:48

I wash ours once a fortnight & just on a normal 40 wash. Sometimes have to wash my teenage daughters more often when she spills her make up o her duvet cover!

SendARavenToRiverRun · 07/08/2016 09:55

I alternate each week. This week I'll wash our bedding, next week the kids.
I've just stared using the fairy 3-in-1 pods which smell divine.
I wash at 40. I line dry year round but have to use the dryer a lot in Autumn. Winter is fine I find as long as it's blowy all is good.
Nothing nicer than clean bedding Grin

MiserableMe1 · 07/08/2016 10:14

Marg2k8 · 07/08/2016 11:18
