The Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate, Part I. £300 Love2Shop voucher to be won NOW CLOSED

To celebrate Fairy Non Bio’s sponsorship of the Mumsnet Talk App, we’re launching the Great Mumsnet Laundry Debate – as with all great Wink series, it's a three-parter. Part I is about how often you wash your bed sheets (as we know, always a hot topic on Mumsnet).

We all know that washing bed sheets can be total faff: there’s stripping the bed, then there’s putting the wash on (are you a warm 40C or a hot 90C type?) Then there’s hanging it out and the struggle for drying space (unless you use the dryer Blush?) After that there’s folding - and, for the super-keen, perhaps even ironing. Finally, there’s getting the darn things back on the bed.

So - how often do you wash your bed sheets? And how often do you wash your DC’s bed sheets? Do you have a specific process? Perhaps you change pillow cases weekly, but sheets and duvet covers every two weeks? How often do you change your mattress protector (Blush again)? Do you use softener?

Whatever your bed sheet-washing process, do share it with Fairy Non Bio in the thread below, and maybe even give us a live update from the Mumsnet Talk App as you're waiting for the load to finish Grin.

Everyone who posts will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Kind of depends on weather as we don't have a dryer. Sheets at least every 1-2 weeks. Pillow cases weekly. More often when weather is good or if there's an accident /mess.

Lulabellx1 · 16/08/2016 12:53

If I'm honest... once a month! Blush

kayleigh39 · 16/08/2016 14:19

We wash the adult sheets every weekend and the kids beds the same time too - although lately, we have been a bit buyer than usual, so we have slipped a little and are washing the adults sheets every fortnight!

My daughter has an allergy to dustmites, so she has a special duvet, pillow and mattress protector (very expensive, but works though). You have to wash them every month on the hottest wash possible. The other sheets and pillowcases are once a week.

So - how often do you wash your bed sheets?
Once a fortnight. Once every couple of months for mattress protector. Sometimes once a week for pillow cases or as and when.
And how often do you wash your DC’s bed sheets?
Once a fortnight
Do you have a specific process?
I like to use fabric softener. I wash at 40 with stain remover because they're all white. I dry outside or indoor with dehumidifier. I never iron!!!

Once a week. Have always done it this way unless there's a special reason to do it in between such as little accidents etc.

gouldie77 · 16/08/2016 22:41

I use a non-bio, as bio causes me skin problems. I wash, air-dry and iron our bedding every week without fail. The bed and mattress topper gets hoovered regularly too!

angiehoggett · 17/08/2016 12:31

monthly

Every week and more often when its hot and sticky.

Ranita · 18/08/2016 09:39

Once a week usually at 90c, all my bedding is white so no worries on a very hot wash. Love the summer months when it all hangs outside, the smell of freshly washed bedding dried outside is just lush!

sjl19 · 18/08/2016 12:36

It probably averages to about every two weeks

MSHGW · 18/08/2016 18:24

I wash all the bed linen in the house including mattress protectors, once a week on my least busy day, usually a Sunday. I use non bio gel, fabric conditioner, and a water softener, as we live in a hard water area. Everything goes in the dryer, as we live in a flat and have no space for a clothes line outside. It does make everything softer though and you don't need to iron anything if you take it out the dryer as soon as it's done. It does get very hot in the house with the dryer on in the summer though!

ha2el · 19/08/2016 12:13

My bed sheets are changed every 4 weeks. We have a brass bed and the covers are flung over the bottom of the upright framework all day until it's time to go to bed.I turn the pillows ever day too. The children's bedding is changed once a fortnight. Similarly the bedding is pulled back and the bedding aired all day.

melmoo · 19/08/2016 22:24

Ours and the DDs - weekly. DSs probably fotnightly if I dare venture into his room.

imustbemadme · 21/08/2016 00:14

Wash weekly at 60 degrees. I always dry outside if possible or use the drier if it's bad weather. I'm not fussy about my powder although I love the smell of the Persil.

cistolic · 21/08/2016 00:48

I change & wash my sheets & pillowcases every 2 weeks My quilt covers every 2 weeks. Sheets are washed one week and quilt covers the next. I do both on a 40 degree wash but if someone is unwell a 60. The mattress protector is washed every couple of months. I wouldn't use a drier, I hang everything on the washing line.

tiameg · 21/08/2016 06:22

Twice a week now my kids are older but when they were babies...I'm sure months would go by before I got around to it!
