This month at Lidl, it’s all about Scotch Beef, with a new Lidl Surprises TV ad that transports viewers to a farm in Perthshire, Scotland, to meet beef farmer John, who has been supplying Lidl with high quality Scotch Beef since 2010.

Sceptical mum Sharna joins John for a day’s work in the fields to see for herself where Lidl’s Deluxe Scotch Beef comes from, and challenges him with her concerns around quality. She is surprised, and happy, to learn that John’s entire herd is born and bred in Scotland on a grass-based diet making them 100% Scotch Beef.

With the focus on beef this summer, Lidl are looking for your summer steak tips - how to season it, cook it and what to have with it. Do you prefer frying them or maybe you insist on a grill or BBQ? Do you have a special rub or seasoning mixture you swear by? What about sauces like Bernaise, garlic and herb or pepper? Or maybe you knock up a cracking side order of onion rings or mushrooms that you can share a recipe for? We're looking for cooking tips and recipes from you that turn a straightforward steak supper into a sensational one.

Check out their ad here:

Share your ideas below and you will be entered into a prize draw where you could win one of five £50 Lidl vouchers.

Thanks and good luck!

Make sure you let the meat rest for a bit to get it to room temperature, it's a little thing that makes a difference.

Don't have the temperature up too high unless you only want to sear it.

Pretend to be confident when serving it that you totally know that 'that's what medium rare means' even if you don't Wink

Get your partner to cook it, always tastes better that way. Oh and a nice Blue Cheese sauce to compliment it.

Massage some sea salt in to the meat and cook in a very hot griddle. I like to chuck in some sliced mushrooms and onions for the taste.

I marinade the steak beforehand in olive oil, s &p, parsley and thyme. Then cook on a griddle and serve in warm ciabatta with a freshly made salsa topping using fresh herbs, tomatoes and those little peppers that come in a jar. And horseradish to give it a lift.

Fast food and definitely yum.

My fave steak recipe has to be portuguese style steak. I tried this when i went portugal and just had to learn how to do it myself. Heres my recipe:

3/4 cup red wine
1/4 cup water
10 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon chilli paste
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 (4 ounce) beef tenderloin steaks
1/3 cup vegetable oil

In a medium bowl, combine red wine, water, garlic, chile paste, white pepper and salt. Add beef, and turn to coat evenly.
In a large heavy skillet over medium heat, fry 3 steaks for 2 minutes on each side; Set steaks aside, and drain liquids into the red wine mixture. Repeat with remaining beef.
Pour oil into skillet, and reduce heat to medium-low. Fry steaks for a second time, 2 minutes on each side. Drain oil, and return all steaks and marinade to the pan. Allow to boil for 2 minutes.

I really don't understand all the faux horror about people that like well done steaks.

'Don't trust people who like well done steaks'
'Common as muck'
'No taste'

I wasn't aware not wanting to eat any sort of pink/bloody meat inferred any kind of personality trait.

sofieellis · 15/08/2016 15:53

My advice would be to fry a Quorn steak instead, as I'm veggie!

YerTiz · 15/08/2016 17:14

DH is the steak expert - he knows how to fry it so that it's still a little pink in the middle! Lots of salt and pepper, and butter in the pan at the end.

I make a simple mushroom sauce to go with it - fry mushrooms in a little oil, add some cream when soft and plenty of salt and pepper. If I don't have cream in I add a tiny bit of flour to the soft mushrooms then stir in milk to make the sauce.

Get very very good steak, preferably from a butcher or farm shop who know you. Show it the fire for a second. Eat. With hollandaise sauce and maybe asparagus tips.

My husband always makes it when we have steak, he has to cook mine a bit longer though as i don't like it rare

angiehoggett · 16/08/2016 16:34

I always season and use a hot grill pan, sear each side for a minute and then cook each side for a few minutes or according to how I want it served. I make my own peppercorn sauce, homemade chips and serve with grilled mushrooms and onion rings, gorgeous!

paperdove45 · 20/08/2016 10:21

I like it simple - salt and pepper just before I fry it in a really hot pan, 3 minutes each side, and don't forget to let it rest for a minute afterwards. Mmm!
