This month at Lidl, it’s all about Scotch Beef, with a new Lidl Surprises TV ad that transports viewers to a farm in Perthshire, Scotland, to meet beef farmer John, who has been supplying Lidl with high quality Scotch Beef since 2010.

Sceptical mum Sharna joins John for a day’s work in the fields to see for herself where Lidl’s Deluxe Scotch Beef comes from, and challenges him with her concerns around quality. She is surprised, and happy, to learn that John’s entire herd is born and bred in Scotland on a grass-based diet making them 100% Scotch Beef.

With the focus on beef this summer, Lidl are looking for your summer steak tips - how to season it, cook it and what to have with it. Do you prefer frying them or maybe you insist on a grill or BBQ? Do you have a special rub or seasoning mixture you swear by? What about sauces like Bernaise, garlic and herb or pepper? Or maybe you knock up a cracking side order of onion rings or mushrooms that you can share a recipe for? We're looking for cooking tips and recipes from you that turn a straightforward steak supper into a sensational one.

Check out their ad here:

Share your ideas below and you will be entered into a prize draw where you could win one of five £50 Lidl vouchers.

Thanks and good luck!

My tip......whack it in the pan wiggle it a bit and hope for the best....my DH loves steak and he loves they way I cook it....but I don't actually do anything to it....just buy a really good bit of steak!

grease · 10/08/2016 19:24

Cook for 10 mins in the oven. Best with onion rings, chip, mushrooms, fresh toms and peas

tubbss · 10/08/2016 21:20

Dead easy! 2-3 mins a side - do not move the steak, do not lift it up to check - leave it!! then while its resting for 4-5 mins add some mushrooms and onions and cook in the juices that came out and serve with the steak! Perfect for a nice rare steak!

beckyinman · 10/08/2016 23:24

Rub the steak with a clove of garlic on either side then put in a really hot pan. Always rare for me too!

grannyluck · 11/08/2016 00:13

Start by choosing a good steak, I look for well-marbled meat and make sure the steaks are at least 1 ½” thick.
I like to season my steak with plenty of salt and pepper. It’s a easy, tried, and efficient method of preparing your steak before a quick Smokey fry for the prefect blue steak yum yum

Littlemisstraveller80 · 11/08/2016 09:21

Place in the pan and sear it for about 90 seconds on each side. This locks in the juices :) Also try marinating the steak we use fresh herbs from our balcony :)

thesockgap · 11/08/2016 11:36

I'm absolutely rubbish at cooking steaks :( :( so I'd welcome anyone's tips! I always manage to cook them for too long and they end up chewy and horrible. There's nothing nicer than a really well-cooked steak - and by well cooked, I mean cooked properly, not well done!

Isis1981uk · 11/08/2016 14:52

Sounds odd but I like to fry steak with a drop of marmite on it, for an extra kick!

Applemuncher · 11/08/2016 16:44

Pan fry with plenty of olive oil - turn regularly...never fails and it's so simple. Smile

Realitea · 11/08/2016 18:39

Give it a whack with a steak hammer. Let out all your frustrations on the steak! Cover it in wholegrain mustard. Get the pan really hot and make sure it's a good non stick one. (so no metal utensils!)
Get your mushrooms nicely cooked and don't forget an egg on top and some french fries. Oh wow I am so hungry now.
The secret is, dont move it about too much or flip it over too many times. I just do 2 minutes each side and I'm done.

rosh3103 · 11/08/2016 19:24

Season well. Very Hot pan. 2 mins each side. Leave to rest. Perfect.

bombayflambe · 11/08/2016 19:39

Rump, sirloin or ribeye steaks at room temperature. Pat dry with kitchen paper.
Heat pan with enough oil to just seal.
Add a knob of butter to the pan. As it melts season steaks with salt, pepper garlic powder and a little(very little) dried chilli if liked on both sides.
Once pan is hot add steak. It should sizzle. Once slightly browned (c40 secs) turn over onto a bit of the pan not touched yet. After 40 secs turn down pan. Add more butter. Cook until done to your taste (we like quite rare so only one more minute) spooning over the salty, brown spicy butter. Rest on cold plates as everything else served around them: I favour fat chips and griddled tomatoes. DH likes a field mushroom.
The juices run when it's cut but not so much you can't mop them up with the chips. Heaven! Sauce is a bonus, made with the juice from the deglazed pan, but the steak should speak for itself.

JoyceDivision · 11/08/2016 21:32

Rare steak, cooked by dh Grin

But the sauce, oh the sauce, deglaze pan with good swig red wine, reduce, then chuck in creme fraiche.... making me gulp now.

Serve steak on bed salad with grated parmesan, lots of sauce as above and home made chips

And a good glas of red wine.

Am gulping at the thought!

HopefulHamster · 11/08/2016 23:56

I'm much better at eating steak than cooking it. I like it cooked quite rare, sliced into strips, with salad.

I also like great big chunks of it with chips.

Maria25 · 12/08/2016 10:03

I get my lovely boyfriend to do it Wink and he always gives me the best bit!

We love steak cooked on the BBQ - we open the packet and let it reach room temperature before lightly seasoning with fresh cracked black pepper. Then they are placed on a well heated gas BBQ and turned only once. Cooking them this way enables me to have mine medium/rare and my DP to have his medium. We normally serve with sliced vegetables that have been cooked on a grill plate also on the BBQ. Minimal washing up and great alfresco dining. Coupled with a bottle of red wine this is a perfect summer evenings meal.

WeeMadArthur · 12/08/2016 17:42

Bring the steak up to room temperature, tenderize it with my knuckles, oil, salt and pepper on the steak, and then I grill it, turning once, rest for five minutes before serving. Takes the same time as cooking in a pan but the steak seems to be more tender.

librarypictures · 12/08/2016 17:48

Oil the steak, get the pan really hot and quickly sear on all sides then rest for 5 minutes. Only needs a couple of minutes each side max - medium is the most you want it for juiciness.

Haffdonga · 12/08/2016 21:56

Take it off just before it's done because it carries on cooking off the heat for a little while.

kayleigh39 · 13/08/2016 00:20

Cut into the meat before its cooked and add some sweet chilli sauce and a sprig of mint. Cook under the grill as normal and when its done the taste is superb!

TwoKidsAndCounting · 13/08/2016 19:16

Fillet Steak

A super hot griddle pan with olive oil - 5 mins each side

Remove leave to rest

Sliced peppers, cherry tomatoes and button mushrooms in same griddle pan and knob of butter - 5 mins still crunchy

Take off heat, throw on balsamic vinegar, shuffle around

Serve!

Cailin7 · 13/08/2016 22:32

Quality steaks seasoned and cooked medium in a hot pan are amazing.

gouldie77 · 14/08/2016 17:25

Oil (and season) the steak, and not the pan. This keeps the amount of oil used to a minimum and stops a lot of the spitting you would get adding the steak to hot oil.
