This month at Lidl, it’s all about Scotch Beef, with a new Lidl Surprises TV ad that transports viewers to a farm in Perthshire, Scotland, to meet beef farmer John, who has been supplying Lidl with high quality Scotch Beef since 2010.

Sceptical mum Sharna joins John for a day’s work in the fields to see for herself where Lidl’s Deluxe Scotch Beef comes from, and challenges him with her concerns around quality. She is surprised, and happy, to learn that John’s entire herd is born and bred in Scotland on a grass-based diet making them 100% Scotch Beef.

With the focus on beef this summer, Lidl are looking for your summer steak tips - how to season it, cook it and what to have with it. Do you prefer frying them or maybe you insist on a grill or BBQ? Do you have a special rub or seasoning mixture you swear by? What about sauces like Bernaise, garlic and herb or pepper? Or maybe you knock up a cracking side order of onion rings or mushrooms that you can share a recipe for? We're looking for cooking tips and recipes from you that turn a straightforward steak supper into a sensational one.

Check out their ad here:

Share your ideas below and you will be entered into a prize draw where you could win one of five £50 Lidl vouchers.

Thanks and good luck!

do it with confidence.pretend your the best steak cooker ever and will get it just right.if i um and arrrrrm I screw it up.
never touch it when it goes in the pan let it get some brown searing goodness.dont keep moving it around.let the cow rest.
learn the palm test for thickness and done-ness
but i have to say I'm not a steak lover.people go mad over them and always order them etc.but i prefer a meal.
so ive found steak can be made into a beautiful stroganoff.
wonderful in stir frys or Chinese black bean sauce.
to have proper steak satisfaction i imagine it would have t be a good cut and cost,so making it into a meal to me is better.

Buy some decent rib eye steak of a good thickness. Use a very hot griddle with no oil and turn the steak four times, cook for only 8 minutes in total.

Make a really fresh warm sauce, my favourite is called bernaise I think, its basically tarragon, butter and egg yolk. If you don't like tarragon you can use ground peppercorns which are also really tasty.

Warm 2 egg yolks in a bain marie (I use a pyrex bowl in a pan of water) with a knob of butter and mix in the flavour of your choice. When the mixture starts to thicken take it off the heat quick and pour over the cooked steak which is great served on a bed of baby spinach and Rocket.

Pull meat out of fridge 10 mins or so before you cook.
I place on grill , season plenty of black pepper and get on with rest of meal.
I cook for about 5-7 mins on 1 side depends on thickness. Turned for just 2-3 mins then to get nice medium rare. Seasoning again when turning.
Serve with salad, flat mushrooms fried in fry light and oven chips cooked in air fryer for healthy tasty meal.

Get the griddle pan really hot, sear each side until its a lovely brown chargrilled colour. THEN pop the pan into the oven to cook to taste. keeps it lovely & moist. For seasoning I use a sea salt & peppercorn mix which comes pre made in a grinder, and occasionally have a peppercorn or red wine sauce.

Havingkittens04 · 05/08/2016 13:26

Griddle pan, cooked for a few minutes each side (how DH likes it) served with mustard mash, broccoli and A1 steak sauce Wink

Blizy · 05/08/2016 16:35

Hot pan, take take steaks out of fridge at least 30 mins before cooking. Oil steaks and cook to preference. Eat!

Elliepurpleflower · 05/08/2016 16:38

My favourite way is on a bbq well done with salt and pepper on. Or with a creamy peppercorn sauce. Then eaten with salads. Yum!

THirdEeye · 05/08/2016 18:26

Take out the steak at least ten minutes before cooking and season well and drizzle olive oil over it (I tend to massage it into the steak).

Put a frying pan onto a high heat, put a little oil and butter. Put in the steak and garlic cloves and cook on one side for at least two/three minutes. Turn the steak over (the side that has been cooked should be a deep brown colour) and again cook for another two/three minutes. When checking steak (as I tend to like it cooked medium and DH likes it medium rare) I refer to the tenderness on parts of a face cheeks= rare/medium rare Chin= medium),

Whilst the steak is resting, l discard the garlic from the pan and then make the sauce. I do this by adding a little flour and a splash of red wine, Worcester sauce and more seasoning if required. I cook this until the liquid has reduced and is thick.

I like to serve my steak with garlic and herb roasted potatoes.

Givemecoffeeplease · 05/08/2016 18:52

Resting is SO important - let it rest for at least half the time you've cooked it.

Peppercorn sauce works well too Grin

Love Lidl steaks. Mmmmm.

Get my husband to do it while poor the wine. He's much better at cooking steak than me!!! Also, ensure the children are asleep, once it's ready I don't want to be interrupted!!!

orenisthenewblack · 05/08/2016 19:31

I just get DH to cook my steak Grin. Much nicer than anything I could do.

First things first, Rib Eye steak because of the flavour. Dry the steak and sprinkle with salt and rub in some oil. Do not heat oil in the pan it should be dry, when you can feel the heat when you hold your hand over the pan, drop in your steak, it should sizzle. The secret is not to touch it or turn it over until it moves when you shake the pan. Turn it over for another couple of minutes. Remove from the pan and let it rest, this lets the steak keep cooking for a couple of minutes and absorbs the juices back into it. I couldn't cook a steak properly so went to a cooking school for the perfect steak, (twice).

WolfiesDad · 05/08/2016 22:03

1: Let steak come up to room temperature
2: get the pan hot & add a little butter
3: pat dry the steak and sear in the hot pan. to colour on both sides.
4: serve straight away with a tomato and red onion salad (or lots of fried mushrooms and potatoes).

If you want your steak cooked a bit more, keep it in a warm oven for 5 minutes before serving.

ThemisA · 06/08/2016 06:54

Hot pan with butter and oil mixed for a high frying temperature. Personalize each steak according to how rare people like it. I feel that a good steak doesn't need a sauce but condiments can be offered. Great with home made chips or Dauphinoise.

barbsbarbs · 06/08/2016 07:28

when I cook steak it has to come in my famous sauce that all the family like, it has peppercorns, mustard, red onion, spring onion and shitake mushroom poured over a well done steak, served with home made chip, delish!!!!!

Kirstyh87 · 06/08/2016 07:40

We love steak in this house and love it Rare! Best way we cook it is our George Foreman Grill for 4 minutes each side and it locks in all the juicy flavour.

Love to serve it with a nice crisp salad and new potatoes or feeling naughty chips.

Natalie3799 · 06/08/2016 07:41

Rub salt and pepper into both sides of the steak (preferably rump for the best flavour) and leave for 10-15 minutes then straight into a red hot griddle pan with a little butter. Five minutes each side then leave to rest for a couple of minutes before drizzling the pan juices over and serving - simple but delicious!

SaltySeaBird · 06/08/2016 07:47

I bring to room temperature (very important) and then lightly run with oil, season with salt and pepper and then pop it into a hot pan. I normally cook for just two minutes each side as I like it rare and find that normally works. Also buy thick steak, the thin strips just over cook. Rest before serving.

Roraima · 06/08/2016 07:58

Old style vegetarian, since the 70's so my soya steak will be seasoned with red pepper, cilantro, garlic and a secret venezuela sauce, guasacaca!
It is now breakfast time and I'm having my coffee, I can smell this dishhhhhhhhh miles away!

hiddenmichelle · 06/08/2016 08:01

On the barbecue - has such a great flavour from the coals!

maryandbuzz1 · 06/08/2016 08:03

I always fry our steaks and have with a little garlic, egg and chips. We all like them well done. I also buy casserole steak which is a great cheaper suggestion. I usually make this into a curry or steak and ale pie and is always very tender if it's cooked for long enough.

WowOoo · 06/08/2016 08:06

A good fillet steak is one of my favourite things. I like it simple - maybe with a salad or homemade chips. I do like a bit of horseradish sauce on the side sometimes.

I cook mine rare-medium usually about 3 minutes each side.

Let the pan warm up first, so it sizzles when you put it on. I use a little bit of flavourless oil, not too much though.

Tkw2014 · 06/08/2016 08:22

Keep it simple - season with crushed garlic, salt and pepper. Don't cook too long - it takes all the flavour away if its too well done!

strawberrisc · 06/08/2016 08:30

I have a flat-based grilling machine and I love steak really rare. I marinate my steak overnight in soy sauce, olive oil, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, basil, parsley, and pepper. I then cook onion on the grilling machine, take it off and throw the steak on for about 5 minutes at the most!
