This month at Lidl, it’s all about Scotch Beef, with a new Lidl Surprises TV ad that transports viewers to a farm in Perthshire, Scotland, to meet beef farmer John, who has been supplying Lidl with high quality Scotch Beef since 2010.

Sceptical mum Sharna joins John for a day’s work in the fields to see for herself where Lidl’s Deluxe Scotch Beef comes from, and challenges him with her concerns around quality. She is surprised, and happy, to learn that John’s entire herd is born and bred in Scotland on a grass-based diet making them 100% Scotch Beef.

With the focus on beef this summer, Lidl are looking for your summer steak tips - how to season it, cook it and what to have with it. Do you prefer frying them or maybe you insist on a grill or BBQ? Do you have a special rub or seasoning mixture you swear by? What about sauces like Bernaise, garlic and herb or pepper? Or maybe you knock up a cracking side order of onion rings or mushrooms that you can share a recipe for? We're looking for cooking tips and recipes from you that turn a straightforward steak supper into a sensational one.

Check out their ad here:

Share your ideas below and you will be entered into a prize draw where you could win one of five £50 Lidl vouchers.

Thanks and good luck!

Season with black pepper, cook in the oven for 15 minutes each side for nice rare medium steak.

padleys · 06/08/2016 16:50

We love to have steak with pepper sauce, but if i am having it with chips i dont use anything as i enjoy the taste of just the steak. I normally fry my steak in a bit of olive oil as i always seem to dry the steak up when i grilll it.
and when we have steak and chips, i just have to have onion rings and peas.

Athenajm80 · 06/08/2016 18:53

I always pick a steak that has some nice lines of fat through it as this gives it a great flavour (not thick lines of gristle, but the small white lines), and preferably as thick as possible. I then get it out of the fridge whilst heating up the griddle. Once the griddle pan is nice and hot, I put the steak in for about 2 minutes then flip it over and do the other side for the same amount of time. Leave it to sit for a few more minutes and then serve with oven baked jacket potato, button mushrooms, and corn on the cob.

Sometimes I will marinate it in a good quality red wine with some ground peppercorns for at least 12 hours first.

Make sure the man is very hot before putting the steak in. Don't move the steak around in the pan the only time to touch it would be to flip it over and to take it out

EnquiringMingeWantsToKnow · 06/08/2016 19:41

Now that really is the key to a good steak dinner alsproject: eat with a hot bloke. Can Lidl supply them?

Oh, autocorrect, disappointed Sad

pennwood · 06/08/2016 21:20

I always remove steak from the fridge & leave it at room temperature for about an hour before cooking. Get the frying pan searing hot to seal the steak then only turn it once. I never push it down. When it is cooked I always leave it a few minutes to rest before serving it.

pfcpompeysarah · 06/08/2016 22:08

A good steak has to come with a side order of fried onions and butter sauteed mushrooms, ooh and a pepper sauce.. aarggh, hungry now!!

KeepOnPlodding · 06/08/2016 22:23

Take steak out of fridge for 30mins. Don't wash it. Lots of salt and pepper on both sides.

Heat a dry frying pan until really hot and add steak. Don't touch it, prod it or try to turn it.

After about 2mins for 'medium rare' turn the steak. Leave it alone for another 2mins.

Be prepared for lots of smoke - open windows and close doors.

Remove from pan and leave to rest for 4mins.

My tip is to eat less but better red meat. Lidl have gone part the way with the provenance of their beef, and this is positive, but the truth is we're all eating too much meat. This is bad for our health and bad for the planet so next time you fancy steak, don't just give in, have the veggie option, and save steak for another day. And go organic if you can!

suzannedrummond · 06/08/2016 23:00

seared in frying pan on both sides then cooked in oven to lock in the flavour and served with onions mushrooms and a peppercorn sauce and salad

Kera16 · 07/08/2016 02:00

I don't like my steak messed with too much, so no rubs or marinades. I have a hot fry pan with butter and a little oil to stop it burning. Seal it quickly on both sides ( 10 sec). Then cook for 4 min each side only turning once.

bambooleaves · 07/08/2016 07:29

Get the pan hot before and have a good sauce to go with it when cooked.

Andbabymakesthree · 07/08/2016 08:16

If you are thinking oh I'll just do it for a bit longer it'll be overdone!

I love to slice my steak into strips (I buy the thin sandwich steaks) & stuff it into warm Pitta bread with caramelised red onion & some rocket leaves, served with sweet potatoe fries, everyone in my family loves this meal

Marg2k8 · 07/08/2016 11:29

Make sure you tenderise it well. A good way to get rid of pent up aggression.

zeenie · 07/08/2016 13:09

im rubbish at cooking - i just cook the steak and then spinkle some seasoning on or use sauces

wjanice121 · 07/08/2016 14:06

My best steak cooking tip is to oil the meat and not the pan (salt and pepper once oiled), get the pan really hot and cook it for the desired time.
REMEMBER to let the meat rest for half the amount of time it was cooked for e.g. if you cooked it for 6 minutes, leave it for 3 minutes to rest before eating.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 07/08/2016 14:47

We usually just fry it - bit of oil, lots of onions!
Then serve with chips & salad - simple but effective Smile

Crown · 07/08/2016 15:34

I like to cook my steak using the firmness test, I also time it so as to get the perfect cooking method.

chillitrini · 07/08/2016 18:05

I love a good steak.. best tip is never over do it.. hit the pan first, and place in it.. when the juices start to release, flip it over until it seals (make sure you season it as you cook it!)

pixiedust1 · 07/08/2016 18:45

My tip is not to put oil in the pan, if you are using oil put it on a plate and place the steak on the plate to lightly coat it in oil (flip over to coat both sides) and then place your steak into your hot frying pan / griddle.

EmNix · 07/08/2016 18:50

Cook it gently on the bbq with some large mushrooms and tomatoes and seve with new spuds and onion rings. No messy pan to wash up

planepointer · 07/08/2016 20:31

Hot griddle pan.
Steak at room temperature before cooking.
Rest for a good 5 minutes.

victria · 07/08/2016 20:43

I always cook steak on a George Foreman grill - perfect every time! Serve with homemade warm potato salad and green beans.
