This month at Lidl, it’s all about Scotch Beef, with a new Lidl Surprises TV ad that transports viewers to a farm in Perthshire, Scotland, to meet beef farmer John, who has been supplying Lidl with high quality Scotch Beef since 2010.

Sceptical mum Sharna joins John for a day’s work in the fields to see for herself where Lidl’s Deluxe Scotch Beef comes from, and challenges him with her concerns around quality. She is surprised, and happy, to learn that John’s entire herd is born and bred in Scotland on a grass-based diet making them 100% Scotch Beef.

With the focus on beef this summer, Lidl are looking for your summer steak tips - how to season it, cook it and what to have with it. Do you prefer frying them or maybe you insist on a grill or BBQ? Do you have a special rub or seasoning mixture you swear by? What about sauces like Bernaise, garlic and herb or pepper? Or maybe you knock up a cracking side order of onion rings or mushrooms that you can share a recipe for? We're looking for cooking tips and recipes from you that turn a straightforward steak supper into a sensational one.

Check out their ad here:

Share your ideas below and you will be entered into a prize draw where you could win one of five £50 Lidl vouchers.

Thanks and good luck!

BBQ Steak
1 small onion, chopped

7 cloves garlic

1/2 cup olive oil

1/2 cup vinegar

1/2 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary

2 tablespoons Dijon-style prepared mustard

2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 (2 pound) steak

Place onion, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, soy sauce, rosemary, mustard, salt, and pepper into the bowl of a food processor. Process until smooth. Place steak in a large resealable plastic bag. Pour marinade over steaks, seal, and refrigerate for about 3 hours before barbecueing

Get the steaks out an hour before cooking so they're at room temperature.
Cover in a little olive oil (oil the steaks, not the pan).
Get the pan smoking hot so the steaks sizzle when they hit the pan, this sears the outside, keeping the juices in and caramelises the outside for extra flavour.
Turn after a couple of minutes, then when both sides are seared, add some butter to the pan and keep spooning over the steaks with some salt and pepper. Even add some garlic and rosemary to the pan if you want for good measure.

Once the steaks are cooked to your liking, remove from the pan and let rest for 5-10 minutes prior to serving.

I love a steak baguette and chips for dinner. I have it with fried onions and mushrooms with garlic and Parmesan Mayo - delicious and added bonus is it's one of the few dinners DH can make!

AnimalAddict · 06/08/2016 09:05

Marinated in garlic & paprika then grilled, delicious :)

My husband who is a professional chef says always told me to heat the pan first meanwhile season your steak with ground black pepper and sea salt/rock salt well both sides then add a dash of oil when the pan is piping hot. Rare steak 2-3 minutes, medium steak 4-5 minutes and well done 6-7 minutes. I like my steak cooked medium as I like to taste the meat not have it cremated! A nice sauce to go with the steak is Diane Sauce you need mushrooms sliced, shallots,French mustard, brandy and double cream. Sauté you shallots and mushrooms. Add teaspoon of French mustard, add dash of brandy, cook off add cream and reduce. Voila perfect steak!

We like it simple because Steak is flavoursome in itself. I cook it as healthily as possible by using a George Foreman grill and use a bit of mustard to compliment the dish

Patapouf · 06/08/2016 09:54

Get pan v v hot. Cook with butter and a tiny bit of garlic. Cook on each side for 2.5 mins for the perfect, tender steak.

I usually serve with a big salad (low carb Smile )

EllyMayClampett · 06/08/2016 10:02

Choose a well marbled steak.
Let it come to room temperature.
Get a cast iron skillet very hot.
Scatter salt over bottom of skillet.
Put steak in hot salted pan.
Leave to sear for 3 min. (Longer for thicker steak.)
Flip steak, sear 3 minutes.
Move to warm plate away from any drafts, and allow to rest 6 minutes.

A marbled steak, and a heavy pan are crucial.

Sounds awful, but soak a fillet steak in coke for three hours, then cook on a fire (my other half is South African, so it's a braai), and then serve with salad. We like our steak rare. And it is amazing, and delicious.

Or if we're cooking inside, I use Nigel slater's home made mayonnaise recipe, and then cook the steak on a griddle- 2 mins either side..

tracyliz · 06/08/2016 10:48

Use a very hot pan, one minute each side then turn down the heat and cook till it's how you like it----take off the heat, leave to rest on a plate for the same amount of time as you cooked it.When your ready to eat your steak just pop it back into the pan to heat up and then serve.Smile

Love caramelised onions with my steak and often use barbecue sauce to top them

Sid98 · 06/08/2016 11:13

Fry them and Rub the steak all over with a good amount of olive oil and a good pinch of salt and black pepper. Add the steak to a hot pan and cook.

ddraig123 · 06/08/2016 11:17

My tip is forget the wine and try draught Guinness with your steak for a change!

stefalfie11 · 06/08/2016 11:17

Leave it out of the fridge for at least half an hour before cooking it so its at room temperature - this really helps to keep the meat tender in my opinion.

glennamy · 06/08/2016 11:32

Let the steak rest at room temperature if you have taken it out the fridge... Freshly crushed sea salt and black pepper... A very hot pan/griddle and I think it tastes the best rare.

GiraffesAndButterflies · 06/08/2016 11:45

My top tip is to let it come up to room temp before cooking and to rest it before eating.

My top side is a green salad dressed with lime juice. YUM.

mrshumphreyjr · 06/08/2016 11:45

best way is to start with quality steak, if you buy the cheap stuff, nothing you do is going to save it. I loved the ads for Lidl because they do address some concerns and show that Lidl is working to give farmers a fair deal

rachelmi · 06/08/2016 11:46

A small amount of good quality steak makes a great stroganoff ( my husband makes it !)

happysouls · 06/08/2016 13:01

My favourite thing with steak is to use steak mince to make really amazing spicy burgers. I add garlic, chilli, mixed herbs, tomato puree, sometimes wine. I use a burger press but easy enough to squish without one! Then we BBQ them and melt cheese on the top and serve with chilli relish in tiger buns. Absolutely amazing!

hmariez · 06/08/2016 13:53

Fried sandwich steak with fried mushrooms and onions on a crusty baguette xx

DawnieAdams · 06/08/2016 14:00

Don't overcook... my best advice... buy an OptiGrill! no turning and done in minutes... Garlic butter sometimes added..

user1468607650 · 06/08/2016 14:02

1 Go to Lidl buy some lovely steaks
2 Heat groundnut oil in pan - HOT!
3 Season with sea salt and black pepper then sear both sides very quickly
4 Add 2 tbsp. stock
4 Turn heat down and cook for a few mins more (however well done you like them ) each side
5 Make pepper sauce with LOTS of cream
6 Serve with rocket and sweet potato fries

OH I WANT SOME NOW!

greenfinger5 · 06/08/2016 15:12

We use a light spray oil, then fry until it's medium.

flamingtoaster · 06/08/2016 15:12

Lightly oil a piece of foil, lay steak on it, cover with thinly sliced tomatoes and thinly sliced mushrooms, some finely chopped onion, drizzle with a little olive oil. Wrap loosely so there is room for steam expansion and bake for about an hour at 180 degrees C (depends on thickness of steak etc.). You can use a variety of vegetables and even chopped potato - the varieties are endless.

ell5454 · 06/08/2016 15:24

A really hot pan, and to keep the steak at room temperature and the loads of butter.
