Strawberries are a staple part of a good British summer, and Lidl’s new advert (watch below) shows the journey Lidl’s Scottish strawberries take from farm to table.

At Lidl, we love our fresh British produce, and strawberries are no different. All Lidl strawberries are hand-picked and checked for prime ripeness, and the pickers aim to have them on Lidl shelves within just 48-hours for your freshness.

So with strawberries the hero of summer, Lidl want to hear about your favourite strawberry dishes, drinks and hacks. We’re searching for little twists to the classic strawberries and cream, right through to the biggest summer showstoppers. Perhaps your strawberry speciality is a refreshing drink, adding them to a salad for a picnic twist, or you have a fool-proof tip for hulling. Whatever your tip or recipe is, Lidl want to hear how you use and celebrate, the staple of summer.

Add your ideas and recipes below and you'll be entered into a prize draw to win one of five £50 Lidl vouchers. Any photos are very, very welcome – and of course, we’d love to hear what your little food critics think too!

Thanks and good luck.

Eton mess, the simplest dessert and everyone loves it.

Pre made meringue or homemade if you can be bothered broken up into a mixture of chunks and crumbs, whipping cream whizzed up with an electric whisk and strawberries halves or quartered depending on size. Mix all together just before serving (don't do in the am for pm or the meringue will dissolve)

We make a nice summer dessert in glasses which has a layer of strawberries on the bottom followed by a layer of rolled oats and a little sugar. Repeat this a few times till you get to the top of the glass then finish with a layer of fromage frais and top with a strawberry.

Use a straw to get the top off of a strawberry. Push it through the bottom

I love cake but don't eat wheat/gluten so often have to be creative with recipes to come up with gluten free cakes.

My current favourite is Strawberry Cheesecake cupcakes. Chop up strawberries into small pieces and cover the bottom of each cupcake case. Make a sponge batter, fill the cases with that on top of the strawberries and bake. You get a lovely sponge with a delicious layer of gooey strawberry.

Ice with cream cheese icing and generous sprinkling of crushed digestives to mimic the crunchy base of a typical cheescake. Absolutely divine! I make mine with gluten free flour and biscuits but normal stuff works just as well obviously. Here's my latest batch!

I quite like strawberry smoothies.
75ml milk
Large handful of strawberries
I scoop vanilla ice cream
Dash vanilla essence
Icing sugar

Put everything in blender, blend until smooth and add icing sugar to taste.

You can add cut up apple pieces, cherry pieces, blueberries, blackberries, plums or nectarines - (even with skin on) if you find the kids have stolen some of the strawberries for your recipe. Strawberry is the classic flavour though.

Firstly make a victoria sandwich cake by breaking 4 eggs into a mixing bowl and adding 225g of castor sugar, 225g of self raising flour, 225g of butter or margerine and 2 tsp of baking powder. Mix together. Divide the mixture between 2 greased 8" cake tins. Bake for 25mins at 180C. Take out of oven leave to cool in tins for 5mins before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Spread one cake with whipped cream and cover with slices of strawberries. Put the other cake on top, spread with more whipped cream and decorate with more strawberries.

Strawberries , nectarines, amaretto biscuits and cream. Lush !

teddygirlonce · 22/07/2016 14:34

Eton mess, or more 'exotically to the English palate' (and something picked up from living in Spain years ago) eating them dipped in balsamic vinegar or sprinkled with black pepper.

moneypenny66 · 22/07/2016 19:39

Rather than just strawberries and cream, strawberries with yogurt and ice cream and shortbread is just delicious!

badgermum · 22/07/2016 21:01

My favourite syrawberry recipe is my homemade Strawberries & cream cheesecake jars, using glass washed out jam jars for individual cheesecakes
200g buttery biscuits
200g cream cheese
200ml double cream
6 tbsp icing sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
500g Strawberries - halved or quartered
8 jar with lids

Blitz the biscuits to crumbs in a food processor or in a bowl with the end of a rolling pin. Divide the biscuit crumbs between the jars.

In a large bowl, whisk the cream cheese, cream, 5 tbsp icing sugar and the vanilla extract until softly whipped. Tip half the strawberries and the remaining sugar into another bowl and crush with a fork to a purée. Ripple the purée through the cream and divide between the jars. Top each cheesecake with remaining strawberries, secure the lids and chill until ready to eat.

Strawberries with a crack of black pepper sounds weird but is delicious!

TheOracleAtSelfie · 22/07/2016 22:23

Blend with watermelon, lime juice, gin and ice. Drink in sunshine. Yum. Like an adult slushie.

throwingpebbles · 22/07/2016 22:25

I am clearly not a great chef like a strawberry sandwich Blush ...just strawberries in bread and butter, possibly with a bit of honey in too. A good quick strawberry fix (if I haven't already eaten them all on the way home from the shop)

ThatGingerOne · 22/07/2016 23:37

Use a straw to push the green top out of a strawberry so it can be eaten in one bite. Yum!

Strawberries with a little balsamic and black pepper. Yummers.

cookie09 · 23/07/2016 14:13

Best hack is to grow your own, they are easy to grow, and taste lovely. And to remove the core of the strawberry just pop a straw through the bottom and it pops out the top. Ace!

bletheringboys · 24/07/2016 13:18

We grow our strawbs in gutters - easy to keep and up high to maintain and keep pest-free!
Our fave way to eat them has to be with meringues and cream - yum!

SheSparkles · 24/07/2016 14:59

I've spent the summer with a punnet of strawberries and a tub of Greek yogurt for dunking them in on my desk at work!
I live in a part of Scotland where strawbs and rasps have traditionally been grown for years and we get the best of the best

nerysw · 25/07/2016 18:50

Can't beat them with squirty cream!

wobblywindows · 25/07/2016 19:33

Leftover strawberries can go into a jam - strawberries on their own make a runny jam, but you can add redcurrants (easy to grow) to get it to set. For 100g of strawberries add 100g of redcurrants, and 200g of sugar.

Jotim02 · 25/07/2016 21:23

Easy strawberry splat. 1 tub mascpone cheese, 1 tub soft cheese, sieve in some icing sugar, add strawberry and beat for two. Injures. So simple, tastes fan mad li,e you've made an effort. Works with raspberries too.

228agreenend · 25/07/2016 21:28

Waffles with some good quality vanilla ice cream, topped with a generous amount of strawberries. Delicious!

Sleepysausage · 26/07/2016 09:04

Melted marshmallows mixed with stewed strawberries and left to set makes a very easy strawberry mousse

lottietiger · 26/07/2016 09:41

We like our fruit fresh so normally strawberries will be mixed in a fruit salad with raspberries and blueberries or added to a pavlova. DH will add cream but DS and me just stick to plain fruit, should be all you need if they are sweet.
