Strawberries are a staple part of a good British summer, and Lidl’s new advert (watch below) shows the journey Lidl’s Scottish strawberries take from farm to table.

At Lidl, we love our fresh British produce, and strawberries are no different. All Lidl strawberries are hand-picked and checked for prime ripeness, and the pickers aim to have them on Lidl shelves within just 48-hours for your freshness.

So with strawberries the hero of summer, Lidl want to hear about your favourite strawberry dishes, drinks and hacks. We’re searching for little twists to the classic strawberries and cream, right through to the biggest summer showstoppers. Perhaps your strawberry speciality is a refreshing drink, adding them to a salad for a picnic twist, or you have a fool-proof tip for hulling. Whatever your tip or recipe is, Lidl want to hear how you use and celebrate, the staple of summer.

Add your ideas and recipes below and you'll be entered into a prize draw to win one of five £50 Lidl vouchers. Any photos are very, very welcome – and of course, we’d love to hear what your little food critics think too!

Thanks and good luck.

If they don't have as much taste as you'd like, drizzle some fresh lemon juice over them and wait about half an hour. They should taste much better after that!

alsproject · 15/07/2016 11:19

Just sprinkle sugar and balsamic vinegar on fresh strawberries for a taste sensation

Strawberry cheesecake. Biscuit base, blend up strawberries, cream cheese, double cream and icing sugar, top with halved berries. Yum

Strawberries mixed with other berries, banana and natural yogurt - healthy summer smoothie :)

Non-alcoholic Pimms
Apple juice, ginger ale, lemonade (equal parts), strawberries , apple, mint, cucumber. Chuck in a jug and leave for an hour before serving with ice.
Try to to mix the jugs up.

I love making strawberry and prosecco ice lollys, naughty grown up treat! Wink

I don't really use fruit in recipes, we just eat it with every meal and always have almost a fruit buffet to keep it varied and tasty and use whatever is in season and on offer. Strawberrys are always a firm favourite!

I like making strawberry and apricot jam. The combination works really well.

MAForster · 15/07/2016 15:45

I like strawberries simply in cream and sprinkled with sugar

FeelingSmurfy · 15/07/2016 15:54

It feels wrong making jam and stuff from lovely freshly picked strawberries, but towards the end when we have all had enough of them its a good way to use the rest of them up and keep us in strawberry goodness for a while longer. The jam will then be used for baking with and things like toast, scones, jam sandwiches etc

I use strawberries, sugar and lemon or orange juice, boiled up then Poured into sterile (stick them in the dishwasher) old jam jars

We love strawberries so much we grow our own, but they don't last long enough. The ones we buy from Lidl taste like Summer, almost as good as our home grown crop.

Before eating I always take them out of the fridge to sit on the windowsill. If the sun is shining on them it ripens them and they taste extra delicious.

If you're dieting. a healthy treat is a combination of frozen strawberries, Greek yogurt and honey. Whizz together in the blender and enjoy!

Another idea is to make chocolate strawberries. Place strawberries separately in ice-tube trays, and pour over melted chocolate. Freeze for approximately one hour and serve as a treat.

Strawberries are the best Summer fruit.

I love straberry and marshmellow skewers. Use a straw to hull the strawberry and the alternate them on a skewer with marshemellows - yum!

Pasithea · 15/07/2016 18:41

If they start to go a bit soft. Strawberry crumble.

user1468607650 · 15/07/2016 20:10

Dip Lidl's strawberries in melted dark chocolate. Alternate strawberries and marshmallows on skewers to add a brilliant pop of colour to a picnic. Easy and tasty!

Earlier this week my hored DS declared he wanted to do some baking. What would you like to make I asked him. After some thought he announced he wanted to make chocolate chip and strawberry cake. Confused
Much googling and pinteresting followed only for me to concede there is only 1 recipe for this on the internet
which is found here

We finally made the cake 2 nights ago and it was LUSH. Moist from the strawberries on top, but not soggy. I swapped the milk and yoghurt out for coconut oil and used dark chocolate and it did not suffer. The dark chocolate and strawberries go so well together.

Recipe taken from linked page

Ingredients

1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
3 tablespoons Greek yogurt
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/3 cup chocolate chips plus more for sprinkling the top of cake
1 pound strawberries, hulled and halved
Instructions

Heat oven to 350°F. Line the bottom of a 9x3-inch springform pan with parchment paper. Grease the side of the springform pan or square pan with butter or cooking spray.
Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together into a medium bowl.
In a separate large bowl, combine butter, Greek yogurt, and 1 cup sugar and, using electric mixer, beat on medium-high speed until light and fluffy - no more than 2 minutes.
Reduce speed to medium, mix in the egg, beat until light and fluffy. Then mix in milk, vanilla.
Keeping the mixer speed low, mix in the flour mixture, gradually, just until combined. Do not over mix.
Fold in chocolate chips into the batter. Transfer batter to springform pan. Arrange strawberries on top of the cake, cut sides down and close together. Place chocolate chips in spaces in between.
Bake cake for about 1 hour until the top is golden brown and the tester comes out clean. In the last 5-10 minutes of baking, you can take the cake out of the oven and sprinkle some more chocolate chips on top, pressing them lightly into the top of the cake (the top of the cake will already be baked and a bit crusty) - it will make for a nice presentation. Return to the oven for 5-10 more minutes, to allow chocolate to melt a bit and look even nicer!
When the cake is done baking, let it cool (still in the baking pan) on a wire rack. After cake has cooled for about 40 minutes, release the cake from the springform pan. At this point, if the cake is cool enough, you can slide your hand under the cake, between the parchment paper and the bottom portion of the springform pan and move the cake with the parchment paper attached to its bottom onto a cake plate easily.

Ripe strawberries dipped in chocolate is also lovely.

The children love strawberries cut in half & put in strawberry jelly. Top with vanilla ice cream or plain yoghurt.

ChicagoBull · 15/07/2016 21:25

I just bought a Lidl sorbet maker Halo
Strawberry sorbet is lush

alabaster002 · 15/07/2016 21:48

Strawberries and grapes cut in half and left to reach room temperature. Add a spoonful of natural yoghurt to produce a lovely mix of sweet and sour tastes.

lhlee62 · 15/07/2016 22:56

I love them with vanilla ice cream to be plain and simple. For breakfast I like strawberries, yogurt and porridge oats in overnight oats.

pillowaddict · 15/07/2016 23:19

Muddle with gomme syrup (mash with sugar and water) and serve at the bottom of a prosecco glass! Alternatively, on top of a slice of home made shortbread thin, sprinkle of sugar and dollop of double cream topped with a fresh strawberry.

compy99 · 15/07/2016 23:47

I love strawberry sponge, just an ordinary victoria sandwich but with double cream and fresh strawberries in the middle
