Strawberries are a staple part of a good British summer, and Lidl’s new advert (watch below) shows the journey Lidl’s Scottish strawberries take from farm to table.

At Lidl, we love our fresh British produce, and strawberries are no different. All Lidl strawberries are hand-picked and checked for prime ripeness, and the pickers aim to have them on Lidl shelves within just 48-hours for your freshness.

So with strawberries the hero of summer, Lidl want to hear about your favourite strawberry dishes, drinks and hacks. We’re searching for little twists to the classic strawberries and cream, right through to the biggest summer showstoppers. Perhaps your strawberry speciality is a refreshing drink, adding them to a salad for a picnic twist, or you have a fool-proof tip for hulling. Whatever your tip or recipe is, Lidl want to hear how you use and celebrate, the staple of summer.

Add your ideas and recipes below and you'll be entered into a prize draw to win one of five £50 Lidl vouchers. Any photos are very, very welcome – and of course, we’d love to hear what your little food critics think too!

Thanks and good luck.

They make great cake toppers, especially with a cream cheese topping. These get gobbled up pretty quick in my house.

Don't throw away your soft/ brown strawberries - freeze, then collect up enough to make your own strawberry jam

Easy -
Strawberries
Jam sugar

on the hob, when sticky, put into clean pots - label and put a bow on - instant gift!!

Enjoy fresh strawberries cut in half with double cream drizzled over, chopped up white and almond magnum sprinkled on top. Love this and so do the kids!!

Yes to the poster who said smell them before hand. It always works.
I put them in the freezer ready for smoothies.
I also like them with a little bit of black treacle.

The DDs love a strawberry @ banana smoothie with breakfast - strawberries, banana, milk. Quick & easy.

Raw strawberry chocolate tart:

Ingredients:
For the base:
1 cup of hazlenuts - soaked 4 hrs or overnight
1 cup dates - soaked 4 hrs or overnight
1/2 cup dessicated coconut
1 tablespoon cacao powder
Topping:
4 handfulls strawberries plus a few to decorate
2 tablespoons lucuma powder
2 tablespoons raw almond butter
1 teaspoon vanilla essence

To make the base combine all the base ingredients in a food processor until starting to hold together then press into a 7" flan dish or tin. Place in fridge and chill for a couple of hours before making topping.

To make the topping: Whizz the strawberries with a blender (excluding those for decoration). Add the lucuma and whizz some more. Finally, the nut butter and vanilla essence, it will take a little while for the mixture to go pale and creamy looking.

Spread the topping on the base. Decorate with the strawberries that were reserved and chill for at least half an hour before serving.

I like to eat strawberries just as they are, no cream, no sugar, they're amazing as they come.

izbiz88 · 15/07/2016 07:25

We love whizzing up some ice cream, milk and loads of fresh strawberries to make homemade strawberry milkshakes - my daughters love them too and they are perfect for the warm weather :)

Flouncy · 15/07/2016 07:28

Hide them if they're needed for a recipe. If left on the side they dissapear within a few hours.

I like a fresh cream victoria sponge sandwich with sliced strawberries on the jam in the middle, then cream. Piped cream rosets on top each topped with a strawberry.

Strawberry Pizza

Bake any pizza dough but add half a cup of icing sugar

Spread with a cream cheese icing sugar mix (to taste depending how sweet you like it.

Cover with strawberries.

We spinkle the adult half with chopped pecans and the kids half with dollops of Nutella.

The tastiest strawberries I have ever had were in Ireland when on holiday.

AngelBlue12 · 15/07/2016 08:42

You can't beat simply picking strawberries from your garden and just eating them straight away - they never get as far as a recipe in our house!

Eton mess with a mix of half Greek style yoghurt(big blue milbona bucket) and half mascapone instead of cream and drizzle of Baileys, few chocolate shavings

barbsbarbs · 15/07/2016 08:49

fresh strawberry milk shakes with honey always goes down well in our house.

This is my Strawberry Shortcake Meringue Jubilee which is really easy to make if you buy a meringue case instead of baking one. Fill the meringue base with vanilla ice cream mixed with shortbread pieces & chopped strawberries, top with whipped cream & decorate with sliced strawberries & blueberries

Cheesecake with fresh strawberries, delicious! :)

SillyMoomin · 15/07/2016 09:14

Really simple- sliced strawberries, left to "marinate" in amaretto or almond based liqueur for a few hours

Scrumptious, either on their own, or then dropped into a glass of something bubbly! Grin

Eton Mess

ebay91 · 15/07/2016 10:06

2 (405g) tins sweetened condensed milk
1.2L (2 pints) milk
475ml (16 fl oz) double cream
2 tablespoons vanilla essence
1/2 teaspoon salt
500g (1 1/4 lb) strawberries, hulled and chopped

Combine all ingredients in freezer canister of ice cream maker. Freeze according to manufacturer's directions.

glennamy · 15/07/2016 10:53

Not special at all but simply cream on fresh strawbs... Nothing better!

carolineandryanandseb · 15/07/2016 10:53

strawberries are one of the worst fruits for pesticide residue- it gets stuck in all the tiny seed holes and a quick rinse under the tap will do nothing to remove it... if it did then growers would have to spray constantly as the rain would wash it off all the time! If you can't afford (or can't get hold of) organic then you can make a simple spray to remove pesticides from any fruit or veg by mixing 2 parts vinegar (apple cider or white) with 1 part lemon juice and a little bicarb. Spray onto fruit before rinsing off, or soak in a sink full of water with a little of each in- you will see the pesticides on the top of the water after a few minutes.

Once you have lovely clean strawberries I would agree with many of the above posts- they are most delicious eaten at room temperature (half an hour out of the fridge before serving will do), they freeze really well to add to smoothies or juices and this is also a great way of using up strawberries that are just past their best!
