Changing energy suppliers every 12 months can be a pain, from looking around to find the best deal to the general hassle of switching. However, it has traditionally been the best way to keep prices low, especially when rates sharply rise after the first year deal. And then there’s the concern of wanting to use greener energy, but without the extortionate prices.

That’s why Octopus Energy have teamed up with Mumsnet to launch the Green Octopus tariff, which is the cheapest green tariff for the average household, anywhere in the UK. It offers 100% renewable electricity and carbon offsetting for gas, without the usual difficulties of switching and the shady price hikes.

Here’s what Jenny from Octopus Energy had to say: ‘We hear from a lot of people that switching supplier is just too much hassle. That’s why we’ve created this tariff: You can switch in two minutes from your phone, save over £200 a year for an average UK home on a Big 6 standard tariff, and go green at the same time. You don’t need a bill to hand - in fact, you don’t even need to know who your current supplier is. We’ll handle the switch with your old supplier, and we have really solid email and chat support too, so you can avoid call centre hell if you need to get in touch.’

To be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher take a look at the Octopus Energy website, get a quote and see how much you’ll save. Whether you decide to take up the offer or not, post below to let us know how it went. If you joined, how did you find the process, and if you didn’t, what stopped you?

Entries close midnight July 7th.

Thanks and good luck!

It is quoting me about £100 per year more than my current tariff with Robin Hood Energy but is claiming that I can save £500. Make sure you carefully read what the saving is being compared against.

I have already changed this year
I had a quote just out of curiousity and It was more than Im paying now

meggysar · 26/06/2016 21:14

I could apparently save £328 a year but I take this with a pinch of salt and am not interested in changing at present.

That actually seems very cheap, but I only changed suppliers a couple of months ago so I won't be making another switch just yet.

my quote was actually more expensive! :-(

They pretty much come out with the same sales speak as all the other energy companies. A quick shop around online and you can find cheaper. The name's original though. I like the name Octopus, but that's as far as it goes.

My quote was quite a lot more than I'm paying now, but I'm a very savvy swapper and I know I'm on the cheapest tariff for me. On the other hand I'm very keen on green energy - I have 14 PV panels on my roof which save me lots over a year so when the price is better I will seriously consider paying slightly more. I also like the phrase "avoid call centre hell"! That almost sold it to me!

My quote was about the same as we pay now which means i probably wouldn't switch

Got a quote - very easy to do. Would not switch as I use a cashback site and tend to save much more money switching regularly this way :) It claims £65.73 a month for both gas and electric which is suspiciously low :/

It sounds great and did tell me I would save money.
I'm always wary about switching as most say they will be cheaper but are not always.

fazkin · 28/06/2016 23:08

we switch regularly but it is a hassle. This sounds good in theory but didn't really give me a cheap quote.

not very impressed the quote seemed expensive

The quote says I could save £328 a year and there does seem to be a saving when I compare the monthly cost to what I currently oay. I am tied into a contract at the moment but I will definitely consider Octopus Energy when it's time for me to switch.

I'd never heard of Octopus before so went to their site which is clear and easy to use. Got a quote and it works out a little more than my (non-green) supplier - probably the reason. I follow energy prices closely and am pretty sure I'm practically getting the cheapest tariff on the market so it was always going to be a touch ask for a challenger to beat! Having said that I'm impressed that Octopus are an all-green energy supplier and I'll be keeping an eye on them in the future.

the quote was really easy to do but can't be bothered with hassle of switching providers

APPARENTLY £327 . But im not tempted as never heard of them

it seems great in theory - if the claims are actually the truth. It's so hard to trust such companies these days!

I've heard a lot of good things about Octopus Energy and a few ofmyfriends have switched. I love the quick and easy switching process. I haven't switched to Octopus Energy as I'm tied into a contract with exit fees with my current provider but as soon as my contract is up I'll definitely be getting a quote.

I have heard that it is good, I might get a quote

MaryDunlop99 · 29/06/2016 20:38

My quote was marginally cheaper and I will definitely consider them when switching early next year

Report
Jezzamk · 29/06/2016 21:48

It wouldn't save me any money at the moment. However, that may change by time my current contract expires. I will look at Octopus becuase a good price and green energy is tempting. I will be getting an electric car soon so it would be good to recharge with electricity from renewable sources

baconbap · 29/06/2016 21:52

A bit cheaper - but i couldn't see where to put in exact figures

I currently pay £71 a month and was quoted £108 per month.
I don't think I'm tempted to swap at such a high quote.

Report
ikkle87 · 29/06/2016 23:31

There was a bit of a difference in the price I've been quoted but I've had bad experiences before with comparison sites where they've told me I would save xx amount and then it's actually gone on to cost me more

Report
Lauren1983 · 29/06/2016 23:47

A saving of £100 a year for me. Will investigate more but seems like it might well be worth switching.
