Changing energy suppliers every 12 months can be a pain, from looking around to find the best deal to the general hassle of switching. However, it has traditionally been the best way to keep prices low, especially when rates sharply rise after the first year deal. And then there’s the concern of wanting to use greener energy, but without the extortionate prices.

That’s why Octopus Energy have teamed up with Mumsnet to launch the Green Octopus tariff, which is the cheapest green tariff for the average household, anywhere in the UK. It offers 100% renewable electricity and carbon offsetting for gas, without the usual difficulties of switching and the shady price hikes.

Here’s what Jenny from Octopus Energy had to say: ‘We hear from a lot of people that switching supplier is just too much hassle. That’s why we’ve created this tariff: You can switch in two minutes from your phone, save over £200 a year for an average UK home on a Big 6 standard tariff, and go green at the same time. You don’t need a bill to hand - in fact, you don’t even need to know who your current supplier is. We’ll handle the switch with your old supplier, and we have really solid email and chat support too, so you can avoid call centre hell if you need to get in touch.’

To be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher take a look at the Octopus Energy website, get a quote and see how much you’ll save. Whether you decide to take up the offer or not, post below to let us know how it went. If you joined, how did you find the process, and if you didn’t, what stopped you?

Entries close midnight July 7th.

Thanks and good luck!

My quote was expensive and being on a budget no good to me. Very nice message that they have to promote but has to be competitive!

rachelmi · 12/06/2016 12:59

I love the idea of using renewable energy but will I transfer over?..........
Hmmm .......the jury is still out tbh!!

KAKADU2001 · 12/06/2016 13:40

The problem is that energy deals change all of the time. What's sounds like a good deal today may not be a good deal tomorrow. Don't get locked into long term deals.

cocochips · 12/06/2016 14:12

The quote came up as £24 more than my current spend

winterpark · 12/06/2016 14:19

I could save £60 a year but i don't want the hassle of switching :)

sweir1 · 12/06/2016 14:44

My quote was marginally cheaper but not enough to switch

Teabird · 12/06/2016 14:57

My quote came out at £62 and I am currently with Sainsburys paying £64 and in a fixed tariff but will definitely considered them when it is up. I think its important to think about renewable energy for the future.

Narnianescape · 12/06/2016 14:58

Not for me as it quoted quite a bit more than I currently pay

Marg2k8 · 12/06/2016 15:47

I do check each year that I am on the best tarriff. I will check Octopus next time I check. I am pleasantly surprised by the supplier I am with now.

MAT12 · 12/06/2016 15:51

Im sorry to say the monthly payment of £67 is higher than i pay per month now. We always shop around for the best tariff as no one wants to pay more then they have to

MillyVanilli222 · 12/06/2016 16:00

I try and switch as often is possible - getting the best deal can save so much. I like the fact that Octopus offer a green solution so those who need to watch their purse strings can still get a great deal!

ricola1 · 12/06/2016 16:27

Very easy to use

Elizasmum02 · 12/06/2016 16:32

my quote seemed expensive while the idea sounds good i think alot more works need outting into more up to date inforamtion !

juju3 · 12/06/2016 16:47

Will certainly look into them when my present contract comes up for renewal

Daphne01 · 12/06/2016 17:35

I've just swapped too but Octopus quoted more expensive anyhow :)

stefalfie11 · 12/06/2016 17:49

It seems a bit expensive to me, my quote was definitely higher than I pay now so whilst i'll check again in a few months, i'm not tempted to switch.

Ikea1234 · 12/06/2016 17:55

My quote was actually almost the same as I pay now, so won't be switching, but I had never heard of Octopus Energy before, so will be keeping an eye on them. We usually swap around once a year, and it literally takes minutes, and the money you can save can be shocking!

freefan · 12/06/2016 18:07

My quote was more expensive than I currently pay, which has pleased me as I recently changed over after researching the best deal, but come the end of my year I will be looking again.

libra101 · 12/06/2016 18:26

The quotation is very quick and simple enough to use without putting you off filling in lots of details about your current energy details and costs.

I tried two different quotes, standard and low, using a smart meter, and the quote stated I would save £350 a year. This seemed confusing as our current energy costs are currently only slightly higher than the quote stated.

It would definitely be worth trying again to get a more accurate quotation when I have exact energy details available.

One thing puts me off changing however, our current supplier has installed a smart meter in our home, and if we changed I understand that it would not be compatible to be used with a new energy supplier.

bigbrainybee · 12/06/2016 18:27

I have actually used octopus before and although I didn't find anything cheaper, I thought it was a good/easy site to use and will keep checking back. I'm always on the hunt for the best deals!

Funkyferret · 12/06/2016 18:48

I had a look, and while the quote given was good, it was not as cheap as the deal I have with my current supplier who I've just tied into for another year so wouldn't be switching as there is an exit fee. My current tariff is very good but the customer service is patchy and I'd be prepared to pay a few quid more to ensure a smooth service and prompt attention.

tiddles12 · 12/06/2016 19:48

My quote was much more expensive, so green or not I am sticking with the cheaper

arat · 12/06/2016 20:40

Headline figure was a saving of £540, but the actual saving is less than £10 a year. So, with exit fees of £60 from my current supplier, thanks, but no thanks!

littleme96 · 12/06/2016 20:48

I'm impressed! Getting a quote was quick and easy and it sounds like it could certainly save me money. I will look into them again when my fixed tariff is ending, as they worked out quite a bit cheaper per month than what I am paying at the moment.

Maclairey · 12/06/2016 20:54

Not competitive for me so I wont be switching
