We all know that the kitchen can be a bit chaotic at times. Spills, splashes and stains can leave your kitchen looking a little worse for wear. The team at Thirst Pockets wants to know when have kitchen rolls/towels been your kitchen saviour?

Here’s what they say “Here at Thirst Pockets HQ we endeavour to make our kitchen towel as absorbent as we can to help tackle all those household spills! We are super proud of our new look range featuring Original Thirst Pockets, Our beautiful 'I love my Kitchen' decorated version, Multicloth that's amazingly versatile for cleaning windows & mirrors, leaving a streak free finish and most recently Thirst Pockets Extra Long with the same super absorbency as original but with twice as many sheets ... super absorbency goes on & on.”

So when have kitchen rolls been your kitchen lifesaver? Have they saved your DC from skidding on a water spill on the floor? Perhaps they’ve spared you a heart attack by soaking up a gallon of oil and grease from your chips and roasties? Or maybe they just take the hassle out of cleaning regular towels? However your kitchen roll has been your kitchen lifesaver, Thirst Pockets would love to know.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

I don't know that paper towel has ever saved my life or impacted in a great way but it's pretty handy for absorbing water from washed fruit and veg in the fridge, mopping up spilled water/milk/pasta sauce, clearing condensation off the windows in the car...

Used kitchen roll for about 6 different jobs today.!!
Painting the walls, any mistakes on the skirting board were niftily wiped off with a finger wrapped in kitchen roll.
Cleaning out my study, I used a bit of kitchen roll in a wodge dipped in vinegar to de-streak the window.
Yes, so the cat was sick as well, as has been mentioned up thread. Dh has a not yet patented way of dealing with this. He first covers the vom. With kitchen roll, the uses a plastic dustpan and brush to sweep this up carefully. If he is really deft, nothing escapes either on to the dustpan, or, God forbid, on him.Grin
I also used the kitchen roll to wipe the coal dust off the handles of the companion set, wrap up a mummified mouse for removal and dry the washed paint rollers by rolling over and over.
I like good long rolls, as we use it for all sorts. Dd even used to grow cress on itGrinGrin

I use kitchen roll for everything. It gets used daily to mop up spills, clean the hob/worktops, drain excess grease from food and clean the walls/doors of mucky fingerprints (of which I have many with four young children).

I also use it for craft with the children. It's great as alternate layers in papier-mache and printing patterns. My dds have also coloured it with felt tips and used it to make bedding for their barbie dolls.

It's the biggest lifesaver when a vomiting bug hits the house. I go through at least half a dozen rolls when one child brings a vomiting bug home from school, without exception it goes through all four children and often myself and my husband too. Yes I could use a cloth to clean up the vomit but tbh the thought of having loads of vomit soaked cloths/towels along with the pj's and bedding to wash is almost as bad as the thought of being sick. Using kitchen towels means less washing to do, eight plus sets of bedding, towels and pj's is quite enough to keep on top of without adding in cloths.

I always use it for spills. Milk at breakfast time is a big one!

Ok, I know you might think I'm weird, but I use my kitchen towels to make my own wipes! No, I'm not a skinflint (I could have shares in the amount of baby wipes I buy) but I love knowing what I have used in my wipes. During one of my many sleepless nights up with my baby, I came across a video of someone making their own baby wipes. I thought this was ridiculous and not worth the money (or effort) but the kids thought this looked so weird that they wanted to try and make them. Thirst pockets are great as they are stronger than other brands. After cutting the kitchen towel in half, I placed it in a plastic tub and poured in water, baby soap (normally Mustela as I love the smell) and coconut oil and left it to soak. The wipes are soft, smell great, and leave the skin really soft (coconut oil is fabulous for skin, especially acne). So, the experiment worked, and whilst we have only done this a handful of times, it is a great substitute for when your run out of wipes!!!!!

Kitchen roll. / towels are so useful and I have used them on many occasions to save things. In particular First aid and spills. So many uses that I ensure I always have a suitable stock.

We've had a dog come live with us 😊 A few accidents in the, early days. We had a roll in every room! And dog loves to play with the cardboard inner 😊

Whenever I knock over a drink near my computer. A kitchen roll has saved me from 'lunching' it many a time.

pockledigg · 10/04/2016 04:43

Very useful when you have a puppy that can't seem to go longer than 10 minutes without doing a wee or a poo! I constantly have about 20 sheets up my sleeve!

ThemisA · 10/04/2016 07:11

When the dog was sick on my mum's cream carpet - great for scooping! I always keep some by my desk in my office for when I knock over my tea/coffee - many a laptop has been saved.

Even when I have to clean the oven I use kitchen towels, the've been god's helping hand since first invented. They reach and dry without having to wash them...Total joy!

TracyKNixon · 10/04/2016 07:23

I use them for everything! I can be pretty clumsey with spillages on the bench so I often grab several from a roll to soak them up before they drip over onto the floor! Wine and coffee and the most common spillages for me! When getting tipsy, I tend to pour wine wonky!

pusinky · 10/04/2016 07:29

My freezer stopped working and I had to use a lot of kitchen towels to clean everything

WarmHugs · 10/04/2016 07:34

Stuck at home whilst the DC have chicken pox back to back. I discovered that kitchen roll is a great substitute for paper when then are painting! It creates wonderful effects!

buddyboy1966 · 10/04/2016 08:00

I always have kitchen roll on hand for the times when cups, yoghurt pots, do not stay firmly in little hands. The good brands quickly soak up the excess and when rubbed into carpets do not leave white residue. #lifesaver

When my little one was 'helping' to put away the shopping and dropped the eggs all over the floor by mistake!! Nightmare!!! But kitchen towels certainly did save the day!

mave · 10/04/2016 08:12

I love kitchen roll! Having kids who spill lots is a lifesaver! I also tend to spill washing powder/liquid quite a bit so it comes in so handy.

renas · 10/04/2016 08:16

I used it when my son knocked a bottle of cooking oil over the floor.

Jade5093 · 10/04/2016 08:21

Eveeytime my 1 and 3 year old have spaghetti...... as you can imagine!!

Tanfastic · 10/04/2016 08:28

I use it for a multitude of things. When the dog does an impromptu vomit on the kitchen floor, it's always good for that Grin.

Annbunce · 10/04/2016 08:29

Kitchen roll is great and so versatile. I use it for wiping up spills, drying the cats food bowls, napkins when eating pizza, packing a sheet in the children's lunch boxes and also use it for taking the excess water off when I clean the windows and mirrors.

vickimac05 · 10/04/2016 08:30

Yesterday my hubby decided to descale our Tassimo- i was busy outside painting the playhouse & he was watching the grand national- i came in to water everywhere, he'd only gone & forgot about it, so out with the kitchen roll to mop up his mess, went back outside & the dog had only gone & knocked the paint all over, she came running indoors, paint all over her all over my floor! 3 kitchen rolls later i managed to get the worst up, while hubbys punishment was to bathe the dog, the kids thought it was hilarious !

boo36 · 10/04/2016 08:30

When I had a major washing machine leak!

barbsbarbs · 10/04/2016 08:35

oh yes that would be when my toddler jacob decided to be sick all over the kitchen floor, but happened to be holding a cup of orange jucie at the same time, which added to the lovely mess. Kitchen towels to the rescue!!!!! they were a lifesaver and have been for many years.x

Kitchen roll is great for cleaning my stainless steel cooker after a the bacon sandwich run on a Saturday morning. A bit of bleach spray on the steel and wipe off with kitchen roll. At the moment I use supermarket own brand but if other brands did the job using less sheets I might be tempted to switch!
