These days, parenting tips are available from a wealth of sources and sometimes it can be tricky to know who to listen to. The team at Nurofen for Children would love to hear who you turn to for the best parenting advice and why you trust or listen to them most of all.

Here's what Nurofen for Children says,"Being a parent is a wonderful life changing experience, full of challenges and triumphs at every stage. We understand seeking advice from a variety of sources is an important part of feeling confident in the decisions you make for your children, so we’d love to hear who you turn to for advice (and the reasons you love the tips they give)".

So please share on this thread your best sources of advice: whether it's a trusted friend who has been there and done that, your own mum, your health visitor, a magazine or blog, the content pages or talk boards on MN Wink etc. They'd also like to know why you love that source of advice so much - perhaps you could share the best advice you've been given and why it worked for you.

Everyone who posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks

MNHQ

I turn to my friends for the best parenting advice, as they have usually been through and experienced the same problem. It's especially good to ask my friends who's children are older than mine. Also asking friends means that the advice is relevant and current

el2606 · 24/02/2016 18:54

It's got to be my mum!

glmcall123 · 24/02/2016 18:54

My mum and friends who have children. I find their advice down to earth and reassuring. I also trust my own instinct to know when to get medical advice.

kthwaitey · 24/02/2016 19:27

i think my first port of call has always been my mum , we think pretty much alike when it comes to parenting, so most of the time she is only confirming what i thought myself. but she is great for telling me when i could do things a little different , without sounding patronising which i like about her lol

brookson · 24/02/2016 20:51

Mum, Pharmacist and Dr

laurapotz · 24/02/2016 21:04

I turn to my friends with children. They are all so supportive as they are going through the same things and we can help out each other.

clarabella12 · 24/02/2016 21:10

my mum, she raised me well so I trust in her to give me good advice.

keshimonster · 24/02/2016 21:11

My mammy...because I turned out great! :D lol

samosh22 · 24/02/2016 21:13

My Mom she knows best

Maiyakat · 24/02/2016 21:45

My sister gave me the best advice - 'never try to fathom the mind of a small person!'

tanyavt · 24/02/2016 22:06

My mum because she did such a good job with me ;-)

Chicinwellies · 24/02/2016 22:33

My Nanny. At 93 she still gives me the best answers, to everything. Oh, and my GP.

rocketriffs · 24/02/2016 22:47

My partner who already had a child when I became a first time parent. I learned a lot and got so much encouragement and also got great advice from an old friend who told me, "They don't come with an instruction book, use your common sense and you'll get there!" Also encouraging to hear from others that you're doing a great job. It really gives you confidence that you're getting it right.

mulgrove · 24/02/2016 22:50

My Mum she brought me and Two other sisters up so she knows what she is talking about or my Grandma she brought up 10 Kids 8 boys and 2 Girls

janemphoto · 25/02/2016 00:16

I look up an issue online and look for articles on it.

Ohfourfoxache · 25/02/2016 01:34

I look on MN a lot for a huge range of answers (from winding techniques to sleeping to weaning) and is absolutely brilliant for general ideas. But for more tailored advice I ask one of my closest friends. Her dds are a wee bit older than Ds so she's up to date with current guidelines and new products. And she knows Ds and I so well that she knows what would be helpful and what wouldn't!

The best bit of advice she gave me was to listen to all advice from midwives, then make your own decision. I didn't realise at the time just how useful that advice would be (midwives advised not to use barrier cream at all, and not to bath a baby for at least the first month Confused )

maursieq · 25/02/2016 07:23

My dh's gran was good as had done it quite a few times! Told me that if they understand "no" by the time they are 1, it will make life a lot easier. Definitely did

sarah3875 · 25/02/2016 09:43

I love Google and normally land up reading thread after thread of advice on here but my Mum also offers the best advice and is always happy to help. My best friend and I have been great support for each other whilst breastfeeding. Especially to have a good moan!

ptak5566 · 25/02/2016 09:58

I try to trust my own instincts a lot of the time, but mum's blogs and forums are great for advice.

Jenba590 · 25/02/2016 10:31

I always trust the advice of mum and sister and a handful of friends of mine that are also mums, if in doubt I would ask my pharmacist at the chemist I have going to for years

sammylea80 · 25/02/2016 10:53

My mum, she successfully raised 3 of us so it's a no brainer for me :)

Getzbaby · 25/02/2016 11:20

I have a look on netmums or mumsnet or nhs symptom checker. Sometimes I consult my mum but don't want to worry her unnecessarily. If still concerned, I contact 111.

bextow · 25/02/2016 12:26

I always turn to my mum first. She is a fabulous mum of 5 children, so has lots of experience plus she is a nurse too so great when it comes to health problems Smile

liane1987 · 25/02/2016 12:29

My own mum, shes always there to offer support and advice :-)

hpsauce84 · 25/02/2016 12:41

My Mum because she's always supportive and gives advice I actually agree with! She also runs the preschool room at the nursery she works at so is very current with her advice.
